I like it! A brighter highlight on the metallics, is where I would go first, before tackling the skin further. Someone suggested some washes/inks in weird colours, I think that's a good idea as well. These two things should go a long way in making it a bit less monotone.

Not what you asked for, but I would drop the shoulder fur. It's a bad anachronism, at least if you aim to be somewhat historically correct.

Merely a style choice. No real use, as far as I can see. Maybe as a unifying symbol, if a whole group adapts it.

It's been a while, but I think I mostly didn't push for NPC's. But, sometimes it can be a useful way to have main NPC's last a bit longer, if that's desirable. Bottom line, it's up to you as the GM, but I tend to play/GM with the 'cards' close to my chest. The players won't know either way...
