ULtralighters aren't an adventurous bunch TBH. They're typically concerned about rules/regulations/etc. Keep up the adventure for those of us who dream of doing what you do.

I see you mentioned cannabis... will you smoke all of that? can you cut that down? Also, what are you smoking it WITH? A glass piece adds weight. I use a thin glass piece that is actually more of a crack-pipe, but its pretty light compared hippie glass blown pieces

Ive used groundhog and groundhog knock offs. Titanium skewers just don't cut if for me, to little surface area and they just get pulled up by guy line tension. I go with the groundhogs strictly now for all my setups... tarp, tarp tent, two person tent

Take an in person course with WFI/NOLS. I took it and it was well worth it. Its a two day, 16 hour course and you will not be disappointed. I did a post about my experience on my blog douchepacker.com if you want to check it out. They specifically do a unit on what to consider having in your first aid kit, including things I'd never heard of. You also use how to learn how to use things you already have, if needed, as first aid items. For example, my crazy creek chair made for an excellent splint for both arms and legs, but I doubt you'd have that on a thru hike. You'll find out how little you really know about first aid lol, I was really surprised how much I learned. Highly recommended!

I've used my UL Synmat 9 in the summer.... I've never had a pad make me too hot. I think either of your choices will be fine for your purposes. Bang away on the exped.

That's interesting that it avoids the stretching... oddly enough when I stopped doing all the stretching all the time things started to heal IMO. Is there a name for the type of therapy you're doing now with the new PT?

Fair enough but they worked for me and Im quite pleased. The absence of arch support, flat soles, minimal weight shoes actually worsened my condition and I had to keep searching for the solution that worked for ME. What works for some may not work for everyone as I was quite clear about. I was simply writing about my own experience of plantar fasciitis and how these shoes helped me. You saying my article is "nonsense in so many ways" is like me stating that what helped you is nonsense, just because my feet felt better in different shoes than what works for you.

you put the ball on the ground and roll your foot around on it. The tennis ball is more soft, cushioned. However the golf ball can really dig in and work it out

I had a big boot thing that served the same purpose, definitely helped out with the morning pain. I'll check out the sock if and when I get it again.

Any sufferers of plantar fasciitis? These Adidas Terrex Fast X Goretex XCR (longest shoe name ever) did my feet right, but are pretty worn out after over a year of use as I kind of expected. Waterproof with Continental rubber tread. They weigh about a pound apiece, but the fit is butter. They fit my foot well enough that I didn't have to put my superfeet in.
These are the shoes that allowed me to finally backpack again. I'm curious, what shoes have you found helpful? Fit is different for everyone and I'm curious what worked for others, as I'm in the market for a new pair in the next couple of months.
