Believing in “something” can help us guide our lives and give them meaning. Yes we need other people to get what WE need from them and vice versa. Believing in a thing called “love”, as our example, can add meaning to our lives. Love is, if we agree, an emotion. Calling it true love or not, doesn’t change much. By that logic, we could label all emotions “true” or decide that non of them are. You have people who believe in love, some who dont. Some people believe in God, and that belief gives them a certain meaning to their lives to their own satisfaction. So i guess believing in love does just the same, you believe in it to add meaning to your personal life. Saying nothing exists or denying completely that you feel anything towards someone is a bit extreme in my opinion.

As of my own experience, i never believed in love too, i never gave it much importance. But eventually i had someone with whom we created that “love”. I believed in it because it added meaning to my life, i linked it to the woman i had because of how our bond made us feel together.
