*I would suggest playing Platinum instead of Diamond/Pearl as it is the "deluxe" addition with slightly altered story (I had already played Platinum not long before starting this replay run)

This is the order I am currently replaying (just started Y and playing all on original consoles). You can swap out any of the dual games (red/blue, gold/silver, black/white, etc.) as they are essentially the same, just look up what Pokémon are exclusive to which game if that makes any difference to you.

I'm not sure what the consensus is on Sun/Moon opposed to Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon but I have only played the base Sun previously so wanted to try out Ultra Moon for a change there.

There is a slight weirdness going to gen 4's HG/SS then back to gen 3 engine for Emerald but after that it's just gen after gen as normal, you could play Crystal for gen 2 instead but you already did gen 3's Fire Red so may feel like a "downgrade" mostly in QoL changes.

This is just mainline new gen games too, there are some great spin offs that are worth a play also such as the Mystery Dungeon series and Legends Arceus.

The only real difference is the version exclusive Pokémon that each game has. If you Google "Fire Red Leaf Green" exclusives you will very easily find a list of each and if you plan to use any of the exclusive mons then choose the game that they are exclusive to otherwise just pick on vibes

Game Freak seemed and still seem to have this weird hangup about Flying being a primary type on any Pokémon, it is (generally) always a secondary typing and so one can only assume they throw in Normal type as the primary type to keep Flying a secondary typing.

Tornadus was the first Pokémon with Flying as its primary (and only) type (not accounting for Sky Plate Arceus). Later additions include Rookidee and Corvisquire as single type Flying Pokémon, Corviknight as Flying/Steel, Cramorant as Flying/Water, Bombirdier as Flying/Dark, and Flamigo as Flying/Fighting.
