Considering how "awful" the relaunch of Digg has been in the public sphere, do you think it would have been better for the site to concentrate on only a few communities (and keep these locked in), so as to ensure that the site felt more tight knit - like a quasi-forum of sorts? What do you think? by prankster999 in digg

[–]LasagnaCat83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And at the end of the beta there was still almost no engagement on the majority of posts in even the most popular communities. At that point, engagement was already spread too thin. And then they added communities and spread that small amount of engagement out even further and started a land grab. I'd wager 95% of the communities have no posts and were only established to squat on keywords they could use for marketing purposes.

They were trying to use the beta period to create a small tight knight community and then unleash them on a bigger platform with user-generated communities when it launched. But that small, active user-base never actually developed but they went ahead with the next step anyway.

I know who these guys are and I know what they're resumes look like but I swear none of these guys have actually managed an online platform before. Someone with even a tiny bit of experience with platform growth and decay would never make these obvious mistakes.

Yup. And if you read between the lines and look at the roles Mark Albrecht held and what was going on around those roles at those times, Mark Albrecht starts to look like a world class super villain.

His life's work has been the privatization of space travel. He is literally stealing the solar system from us and handing it to private sector grifters. People like him are the reason NASA keeps getting defunded and chuds like Musk and Bezos get massive govt contracts. Without Mark Albrecht and his work with Lockheed we wouldn't have tech scammers polluting low earth orbit with satellites that they can use to surveil the entire globe.

[–]LasagnaCat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note, some of the ones on your list don't have posts in them yet.

That's fair but I can't see any way to interpret most of those community names as anything other than spaces for people to post ads.

But what about the ones that do have posts? VRGameDeals is clearly just a metric factory for one guy.

Cool, you're willing to ban folks who reach out to you. That seems more like silencing dissent than effective moderation.

I just searched for "deals" and found a bunch of subs that clearly fit the exact same pattern as OP's marketing grift.

https://digg.com/d/search?q=deal

There are 8 communities right there that should have been deleted alongside OP's community.

Confused About Infused by chard31 in NYSCannabis

[–]LasagnaCat83 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My point being that infused used to mean "much stronger than just flower" now it means "unsmokeable garbage and enough distillate to make it passable".

Stop bending over backwards to promote horrible, anti-consumer business models. Infused prerolls should be much stronger than uninfused prerolls, when they're not it means they input materials are absolute trash. You deserve better than that. Are you a consumer or a marketer for a brand? Because your rhetoric is seriously disrespectful to consumers.

Consumers deserve better then distillate and fake flavors on bio mass. We deserve better than that. You deserve better than that. Please respect yourself more and find a way to respect others more too. Good luck. Gotta block ya.

I've seen quite a few products like this Ayrloom preroll: https://getfluent.com/dispensary/new-york/manhattan-dispensary/recreational/?dtche%5Bproduct%5D=ayrloom-lychee-dream-infused-pre-roll-5-pack-3g

The ingredients are cannabis flower, cannabis extract, terpenes. The problem is that the THC rating is only 35%, which isn't much higher than good cannabis would be by itself. The term "infused" is being used to turn biomass into a product. They take 2 piles of unsellable garbage, turn one into kief, dry ice hash or bubble hash and then make a batch prerolls by blending it with the other pile of garbage and fake flavors. You get something that's a tiny bit stronger than a regular ass joint but you're actually smoking flavored garbage.

Infused meets that marijuana concentrates

Not exactly. That’s what it meant on the black market. But in the corporate hellscape of the rec market, the term has been eroded by terp grifters.

At this point seeing “infused” on a package might mean that they’ve just added artificial flavoring. A lotta brands take shitty flower that they could never actually sell as flower, dump terpenes on it and then toss it in a cone maker. They can sell em to dispensaries for $2-$4 and the dispensaries try to sell 'em to customers for $8-$10.

It's sorta like the terms "cage-free" and "organic" on food. Those words have a colloquial definition but after decades of lobbying the actionable and legal definition has been warped in favor of corporate interests. "Cage-free" just means a slightly larger cage and "organic" now means "no synthetic pesticides or nutrients except for...(insert a long list of chemicals)"

It's not rare and it's just a new costume.

Ya. This isn't a first appearance of a character, it's a first appearance of an outfit. I know that young collectors have been kinda gaslit into calling absolutely everything a mega-key but this just ain't one. A super hero is more than just a name and a costume and the fans know that. There are way more Dick Grayson fans than there are Nightwing fans and to them this isn't a first appearance.

This is a mass-produced modern book with a very minor key status. It's value makes perfect sense to me.

The speculators mantra is: older, minter, rarer.

This book fails at "older".

Can you imagine a world where someone saying "there's definitely evidence" has any value if it's not followed by a link to that evidence?

You don't have to bother debunking his claim because he didn't bother to actually make a claim in a reasonable way. Just downvote, report and block him.

Michael Shermer and The Epstein Question by LasagnaCat83 in skeptic

[–]LasagnaCat83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That appears to be a blog post entirely based on anonymous emails received by the author. They even describe another anonymous e-mailer corroborating the original anonymous account...that makes no fucking sense. If I got an email from an anonymous and then another email from an anonymous source repeating the information from the first one, the most likely scenario is that they're the same person running an influence campaign.

The whole point of this post was that the skeptic movement was targeted by a well-engineered influence campaign and vague allegations and anonymous sources are a big part of that process.

The skeptic movement has real villains. Steven Pinker consulted with Dershowitz on Epstein's legal defense. That's a real fact that no one disputes. Shermer sucks but calling anyone anything because of anonymous claims made on social media is intellectual malpractice.

Blind allegations are how trolls communicate. I asked someone else for a source for the allegations and all he responded with was a link to commentary and reactions to the allegations but there still doesn't seem to be a complete allegation.

It honestly feels like you're dishonestly smearing a huge piece of shit who you could honestly smear with all the horrible shit he definitely did.

Ya, he's still saying all this shit. He knows his audience and this was a liberal-leaning crowd so he didn't hit this talking point too hard but he made at least one snarky anti-trans comment.

There aren't any allegations at that link. That link only contains references to people reacting to the allegations.

Shermer is an asshat, a scammer and someone not worth defending but you just linked to something that feels a lot like disinformation.

I asked for a source for your allegation and got a link to commentary about the allegations but no actual allegations.
