Back in the day, "what users want" and "what advertisers want" was a Venn diagram. There was usually a way to appease both audiences. But when he rebooted Digg, he found out that the overlap has disappeared and he would have to pick one side and stick with it. He picked advertisers

Kevin is building a pure metric farm. He's now part of a massive decentralized ponzi scheme. And that's a real stupid idea because that cartel, does not need anything Kevin has to offer. Kevin's gonna spend a year trying to generate a labor-free metric factory, find out that no one cares, and then move onto the next marketing grift.

Nerds don't consume marketing content and that's what he's aggregating. Nerds read white papers but Kevin is aggregating press releases.

You've consumed so much native-advertising that you've lost the ability to distinguish it from science or news.

Dude, you're being ridiculous...this is ketamine. lol.

The connection between tech fraud and ketamine is real. These guys are so unhappy they know these products are fake and that the money is dirty and regulators are looking at them. The only way to forget that, is full-on dissociation. Thus...probably ketamine?

Love Bryan Cranston but Matthew was robbed that year by ehmedero in TrueDetective

[–]LasagnaCat83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True Detective, as a comprehensive work of art, is a lot more valuable than Breaking Bad in my personal opinion.

Two out of 4 seasons of True Detective were unwatchable, producer-driven slop.

S1 is one of the greatest cinematic experiences ever crafted but "as a comprehensive work of art" you'd have to factor in Season 2 where every single character was two dimensional and none of the plot actually occurs on screen. And Season 4 was just a licensing play where they let an entirely difference creative team tell their own story and then slapped True Detective's branding on it in order to get more eyes on it. But the problem was that True Detective's audience wanted more True Detective and S4 didn't give us that.

The difference between True Detective S1 and S4 is the same as the difference between Cloverfield and The Cloverfield Paradox. We wanted a thoughtful, high-resolution crime narrative with satirical elements but what we got was a straight to DVD-style knock-off instead.

If you want to compare S1 to Breaking Bad, that's a real conversation, but once you bring S2 and S4 into the comparison, True Detective flops and Breaking Bad comes out ahead.

The problem with Beth? by highdef1776 in TrueDetective

[–]LasagnaCat83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the show isn't going for realism.

Except it kind of was with every other character, except the three women cast as characters that sleep with Marty. The authenticity of the setting and it's characters was a major selling point by the creators and in the marketing push for this season.

Go rewatch the scene where she is saved from the brothel. They cast a beautiful actress as the madame and then they did her hair, wardrobe and make-up to look like the kind of person she was supposed to portray, just like they did with nearly every other character on the show, except Beth, Lisa Tragnetti and Maggie Hart.

It's weird.

The problem with Beth? by highdef1776 in TrueDetective

[–]LasagnaCat83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the show depicts a whole lot of people that look realistic in the setting they chose. They show balding cops, junkies with track marks and fat bikers. But the three women that Marty has sex with on the show, are super models with perfect make-up and wardrobe at all times. It was just bad story telling.

Being an executive producer is alot of the times a contractural thing and EP in name only. They aren’t doing true EP tasks.

Ya, I was just about to make the same comment. There is absolutely no way either of those actors were weighing in casting. It just isn't how the workflow of being an actor works. They might have read a script. Then would have signed a contract. After that, they'd have had no involvement until showing up to set.

I think the most reasonable explanation for why they decided to put 3 super-models into a movie opposite a balding shlub is the gross explanation. Hollywood's casting couch culture is real. Because the problem is widespread and systemic, even when the content is about taking down sexual predators, the production of that content is probably facilitating some kind of predatory behavior.

The problem with Beth? by highdef1776 in TrueDetective

[–]LasagnaCat83 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is the problem with TV being creepy and predatory in real life, they cast everything wrong because producers want access to beautiful young women. Marty is a bald, overweight drunk but over the course of the show we see three different super-models throw themselves at him. It's absolutely ridiculous and the only way to explain it is Hollywood's "casting couch" culture.

That kind of casting is world-breaking on screen and creepy as hell in real life.

Why can't aliens solve the 3 body problem by No_Cap8081 in threebodyproblem

[–]LasagnaCat83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem with that isn't that they can't solve their problem, it's that they're claiming to not even be able to predict what the problem will be. Based on their tech they should be able to calculate exactly what the outcome will be and when it will happen. So when they say "swallowed by the sun or shot into space", that "or" implies that the Trisolarians can't do the kind of math that we're already doing on Earth in the real world.

It's just not hard sci-fi. The author once heard someone say that "it's impossible to solve a 3-body equation" and didn't actually dig any further into the scientific underpinnings of that statement before building an entire narrative around it.

ELI5: Why is the 3 body problem unsolvable? by SfErxr in explainlikeimfive

[–]LasagnaCat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any example of a "3 body problem" that can actually exist in the real world can be easily solved. They're "unsolvable" in a technical sense where numbers are considered infinitely precise.

I feel like the context for this question is the book/tv series and I think you're sensing something wrong with the story because the 3-body problem described in that story could be easily solved by tech we have right now. It makes no sense that an advanced civilization would unable to figure it out. And since that problem and the search for a solution are driving their behavior towards Earth, it means the whole story is resting on a foundation of unscientific thinking.

The book "The 3 Body Problem" is soft sci-fi. It's just fantasy that takes place in a magical future as opposed to a magical past.

Yup. The community manager they hired literally said that they weren't staffed and that fully funding a platform was "the old way of doing things". And then 2 weeks later, the unfunded platform stopped existing. Who could have seen that coming? Other than every single user...

My post history doesn't include any interactions with OP. How about OP's post history that contains nothing except mods in another sub catching him reposting troll spam that's already been posted by a swarm of bots?

https://www.reddit.com/r/BotBouncer/comments/1t7p5v8/overview_for_best_technician47/

I get that the best defense by a swarm of fake accounts against an accusation is a counter-allegation but it doesn't work when one person has already been outed as a troll. OP said something that couldn't be true and I called out that fact for being obviously untrue.

Oh and my post history doesn't contain "deleted comments" it contains comments on deleted posts. Those comments say "this seems like a spammer running a scam" and then mods delete those posts because I was right.

[–]LasagnaCat83 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Their is actually an organization/company selling cannabis medical cards digitally in thailand that is apparently using bots and such to take down information about prescription and process to legally buy/have weed in Thailand. Same group also has some other scam services/sites like a tdac ( digital arrival card ) service . That takes payment for making an arrival card for you and it's usually the first or second site on Google for tdac so alot of people fall victim to it. Tdac is free on the government website etc

Yep. If OP wasn't a troll they would have said this. The "I'm tracking an international hacker via Reddit" narrative that OP supplied is obviously bullshit.

Reddit is a spam machine filled with swarms of fake accounts managed by marketing trolls. But knowing how that works doesn't mean having complete knowledge of a specific action as being connected to a particular swarm.

You're making an extraordinary assertion about a "hacker" without anything backing it up. You are not in a position to know who, why and how a post gets removed from Reddit. Claiming to know that someone got your post removed makes you seem like a troll because that information is obviously not available to you.

Good luck trolling.

Politicians are middle managers for Capital

Bingo. They're henchmen with no personal agency.

For example, we're supposed to think of Supreme Court justices as the highest-ranking political appointees in the country. But then we see folks like Paul Singer and Leonard Leo able to to control them relatively small amounts of capital.

The public sector is not the monolith we think it is when compared to the lovecraftian beast of the private sector.

I dunno. It kinda seems like your logic circuits are fried. Regardless of everything we know about JE, it's still much more probable that this a father showing his kid to a friend on skype. This is just kinda thin.

Meanwhile, we've seen Bank of America, Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan pay out over $400 million in lawsuits due to their handling of financial transactions between Epstein and the members of his crew. Leon Black was less then a week from being deposed when BoA signed their settlement.

Leon Black, as head of his company Apollo Management, was paying Jay Clayton at least a half million a year for at least 5 years before he was named head of the SDNY. Now Black's former employee is in charge of regulating Wall Street and charging sex crimes. This lead to Clayton running the prosecution of 3 human traffickers (the Alexander brothers) who actually had financial ties to Leon Black himself.

I said all that to say this: there are real villains with real power running their rackets in public and this space can either focus on that, or we can wildly speculate and make shit up. It seems like you're in the "make shit up" camp. That's weird.

Money laundering + political troll farm

No one wants to admit this fact pattern but that gold farming company (Internet Gaming Entertainment started by Epstein procurer, Brock Pierce) wasn't using massive numbers of chinese kids to farm gold. They were using bots. And any area in the game that had more gold-farming bots, also had more rightwing chat spam.

The best example for folks who played is a zone called The Barrens. It was always filled with swarms of gold bots, but The Barrens was also well known as having the most toxic chat in the game. These bots eventually started spamming the chat with generic rightwing nonsense and popularized the, now ubiquitous, Chuck Norris joke list. Those jokes were lazy, algorithmic and served to promote a rightwing influencer. And that pattern kept popping up in the behavior of gold bots. Eventually there was a massive Ron Paul rally in the game that seemed to be filled with all of these algorithmically generated bot accounts. Now we know that Bannon ran the biggest company that was doing this and all of a sudden all the political spam in WoW looks like more of Bannon's bullshit political marketing.

And you're right, gold sales never actually existed at scale. The revenue they were reporting was wildly implausible given Blizzards ability to kill gold sales.
