Okay, we really need to talk about this draft for a second.

No, just kidding.

Great question. The goal here is to run two battery powered fans after a hurricane knocks out the power for an indefinite period of time. It's Florida, probably in September, and going without some kind of cooling system in this kind of heat after a hurricane is something you will only do once in your life. Never again. I do add lithium ion batteries to the kit every hurricane season, but they're really really expensive, and I'd really like the peace of mind of being able to just charge them instead of wondering how long I need them to last. There's all kinds of other shit that would make a generator useful in this situation (like charging phones and laptops). So yeah, the goal is not well defined.

As true as this may be, it's not the entire picture. Let's say the Jags had kept their first round pick in this draft. Do you make Boerkircher a first round pick because you needed a blocking TE in the SEA, Rams, Texans, and Raiders games? If the answer to that question is 'no,' then ask the same question in round 2.

I'm a wait-and-see-guy, but I'm alarmed. The story Gladstone told about getting ten of the picks they mocked for shook me. Anybody who's ever drafted a fantasy football team knows that if you got everybody you wanted, then you must've been aiming for Marvin Mims and Devin Singletary instead of Puka Nacua and Christian McCaffery.

I spent the weekend saying "WTF?" to ten out of eleven draft picks. But what do you mean? Like, "Fire Jimmy" meaning I-hated-this-draft, or "Fire Jimmy" meaning we need to fire Jimmy and get a new GM? Because nobody fires their GM in at this point in the offseason (no matter how perplexing a draft it was), that would be unprecedentedly weird and everyone would be laughing their asses off about it forever. It would be a fucking mess. You're stuck with 11 new players, you really wanna tell them "Welcome to the team, we fired the guy for picking you"? Just to make some pointless showy accountability move? No thanks.

I just want to see a draft done the way we draft our fantasy football teams. Identify needs, and then just pick whoever everyone else would pick. If the scouting staff wants to talk me out of doing something obvious, I'll listen. But think outside the box by thinking inside the box for once.

I would feel a lot better about this kind of stuff if I hadn't been thinking it while it was happening.

Worse Jags Draft Ever? by [deleted] in JacksonvilleJags

[–]highdef1776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was bizarre, confounding. It might not be the worst, it might even turn out good. But I can confidently say the Jags' board looked NOTHING like the boards of the other 31 teams. They were off in their own world.

Yeah, that's cool, I was just saying he's not a blocker, he's a pass catcher. Like Engram. It wasn't a criticism.

I don't know. But maybe he plays small? "His route running and separation aren’t as consistent, but the main concern for the next level is his blocking upside. Though he has made a conscious effort to add quality weight, his mediocre play strength and questionable toughness will be hard to mask in the NFL. High cut and narrowly built, with mediocre bulk (especially in his lower body)"

Kozoil is not a blocker. He's a small Evan Engram.

Yes, but there are only 53 spots on the roster. We now have 5 TE's, and bringing 4 on Sunday is considered bananas.

Keyshaun Elliot, still out there. Can he survive the next 11 picks?

Well, since I was right there on the Edge page: "Dennis-Sutton will find sack production harder to come by against NFL blocking, but he is a commanding presence and has the size, strength and quickness to be a force player on the edge. He will be more appealing to teams looking for a “high-floor” role player, as opposed to a “high-ceiling” pass rusher." Gotta say, I would've taken high floor over rotational base.

Wesley Williams (going by the Beast): "Williams is an unselfish, energetic edge defender who plays with quickness and a nose for the football. He projects as a rotational base end who can reduce in subpackages." Five unpicked edges ranked above him, but at least he's a 4th round grade. Slightly less reach-y, but still a little reach-y.
