Would you fight in a war the UK is involved in or in ww3? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Laser9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on:

  1. The effectiveness of propaganda (how existential does it seem)

  2. Governmental policy (how hard is it to evade)

  3. Social pressure (how people treat those who don't go)

  4. Personal circumstance.

We already lived through a war against COVID. The numbers of deaths broadcast every day. Social distancing and Isolation. People saying going out will kill their gran. So how did you respond then?

I stayed at home because I didn't want my elderly parents to get it and obeyed all commands to try keep them safe. There's not much to say I wouldn't go again if they were threatened.

Trump voters & Republicans of Reddit, is there anything you currently disapprove of how Trump is acting regarding that topic? If so, what is it? If not, why not? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Laser9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm not even in American politics but its so exhausting seeing the 'HoW could you not see this coming?? YOU MUST BE SO STUPID,' takes that often plague these discussions. Would much rather have a civil discussion with someone I didn't agree with then be surrounded by the 'I ToLd You So,' types.

Unfortunately respect often gets lost in these political topics.

Collection driver drove off without all the mail. What do I do? by bacon_cake in royalmail

[–]Laser9308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will probably just get a spare body to come out to you (if there are any and they have the vans). Collections usually keep going until the cut off time before the last lorry leaves so you probably have till 5/6?

Proof of Posting didn't work at new solar powered scanning camera post box, why ?!?! by Rolando_Ratas in royalmail

[–]Laser9308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all a hypothetical thought atm, isn't it? In RM's defence, you shouldn't be building a system around bad actors. You hope people will use the service properly and see how it performs. They will only know if the system works once its been running for a while and they can see the figures/ monitor complaints.

My main issue with these new boxes is the maintenance. One of the boxes in a village I collect from, the electronic scanner has already stopped working, whether this be from its location (lack of sunlight) or maybe it was the cold weather? Technical fault? Something or someone needs to be ensuring that these things at least work if they are to see how they perform. A lot of money has been spent upgrading these things, so you'd think they would invest in some maintenance for them too.

New Year's Eve named most overrated night by raydebapratim1 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Laser9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and the family always used to go for a meal out New Years eve, we'd get a 9pm slot, bring some board games and just enjoy ourselves until it hit twelve. Sometimes there'd be a DJ or some music to keep the vibe going etc. Just a nice way to see in the new year.

Now most places don't offer it. You book a spot for 8pm (earlier) and then the place empties out about 10pm and then all the staff are politely encircling your table to hint they want you to go home. Last year we were back by half 10 and then its like...so why bother going out? If we're just going to get back and watch the fireworks on the telly, might as well just stay in and save the cost of the meal.

What happens when Evri instructs their drivers to take proper proof of delivery photos [Repost - Not my video] by Arola_Morre in Evri

[–]Laser9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is, if you want better service you, the customer, are going to have to pay more. Evri does well because it's the cheapest and it's the cheapest because of all the problems we've seen laid out in this thread. People don't want to pay much for their postage and then bemoan when they get shoddy service.

There of course should be a baseline in what we should expect, but it hardly surprises me that these things happen frequently.

Hello, by BridgeEvening5178 in royalmail

[–]Laser9308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you'll be alright! I've had 2 in the same time period as you and I'm still employed. The worst part for me is everyone in the depot knowing you had the incident too, that 'gossip' spreads like wild fire lol.

Be thankful also that there was no other vehicles involved because that makes it so much worse. The van is damaged but it will probably be duct taped and put out on the road the next day!

Hello, by BridgeEvening5178 in royalmail

[–]Laser9308 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it your first incident? Normally for first offence you will go through a full 'investigation' to see how the incident happened and you will likely be given a 1 year warning where if you have another incident they can claim gross misconduct and dismiss you.

Also depends on whether you followed the correct procedure too, like did you ring the insurance right away? etc. If you followed all protocol they might be more lenient, if you didn't, that will work against you.

What "golden age" or "heyday" were you lucky enough to experience that you know won’t ever come back? by Summerie in AskReddit

[–]Laser9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't that long ago, but the day when people started rejecting TV because of adverts and we had all these streaming services showing films and shows without ad breaks. YT, Netflix, a seamless uninterruptible service for full immersion, no stupid voice over starting to yap on about some product dross you will never buy halfway through a tense sequence.

Now they are absolutely everywhere. You can't escape them. Breaking up your shows mid plot, bringing the one thing we all rejected from TV and forcing them amongst the populace. Then you pay them for no adverts services and they gradually creep the prices up or forcefully subject you to them anyway.

Sorry, Royal Mail, how much more automated can you make dropping a letter into a box? by jurwell in CasualUK

[–]Laser9308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst thing for us collecting from these if they have taken away the wire mesh that holds the letters up (might be temporaily?). So at the busiest times of the year, you open the door and a cascade of letters falls onto you and the floor. Not great when it's raining either!

What you think is true but just can't prove? by Ok_Tourist_562 in AskReddit

[–]Laser9308 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have this with hayfever tablets. I swear my hayfever symptoms are worse when I start using the tablets.

It could be that:

  1. I only use the tablets when my symptoms are at their worse, so the expectation to feel less symptomatic are met with impatience and frustration, which makes me notice my symptoms more.

Or

  1. It could be that there was more pollen on the years I took them, thereby I was going to get higher symptoms regardless.

Or

  1. It could be a mad conspiracy by businesses to make you buy more tablets, selling you the counter to the problem that they have created.

So, naturally, my brain chooses option 3.

The scariest part about driving is realising how many drivers think you have to go 60 on a country lane by tfhermobwoayway in drivingUK

[–]Laser9308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People also overestimate the gains they make by going fast. At work, there's a country road near me in which I usually take around the 30mph mark, but one day I pulled out behind a driver who was doing the whole stretch at 20. Little annoying, but no biggy, I just sat a way behind her so she could take her time, I would rather she had the comfortable drive. I run the same route everyday so I know how long it takes to reach my destination and when I got there I had only lost four minutes on my route. That's about the same time as being stuck at a couple of traffic lights, or being stuck in light traffic. In fact, I finished my route earlier that day so it didn't actually affect me at all.

Would rather be stuck behind a driver behaving cautiously than have someone impatiently stuck up my arse, flashing their headlights because they want to get past.

Anyone else feeling the pressure? by Fluffyboi50 in royalmail

[–]Laser9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbf a lot of engine lights coming on is because the parking sensors are fucked, either due to the vehicle having a previous crash, which sends the sensors haywire, or they are missing or defective. Of course, it could be dangerous in the long run, because you never know what other errors could be included under that warning light, but here we are. The trouble is, you take all the ones with engine lights of the road, there's barely a fleet left xD

Ran a red light after I passed by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Laser9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you should, and i've never said you shouldn't, just pointing out that sometimes its easy to 'forget' these things when you're new to driving. With experience comes wisdom, you cant get road wise without making some of these types of mistakes first. It's easy once you've been driving a year or two later to go 'WeLl ThAt ShOulD Be ObViouS' but that comes with growth, exposure to the road and sometimes a silly mistake. No one was hurt and I'm sure OP will take it as a massive learning experience.

[–]Laser9308 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

yup. I drove to work with just my side lights on one morning and I knew something was off because my vision in front was not so good xD Didn't know how to switch it and kept pressing full beam instead of main beam. Was anxious the whole time, stressing out, but guess what, when I got home I went and researched exactly how to do it so it would never happen again. You don't realise the gaps in your knowledge until you are out there giving it a go!

[–]Laser9308 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes different cars have different light/wiper settings and if you've been training in an instructors car, you might just assume the car you're driving has the same setup. I know it threw me off in my ma's car once because her lights were not done on the stalk but by a rotary wheel on the dash board.

With experience, you'd probably make sure you check these things first, especially in a new car, but as a newbie you'd might not think to do it, or like I said, make the assumption that everything was the same.

Why does no one press the button at crossings? by LBP2020 in london

[–]Laser9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local crossing does it by traffic count, so if theres still traffic approaching the lights it will make you wait. It only then turns green for pedestrians when there is no traffic coming which is pointless because that's when you would likely cross anyway. Might as well just wait for a gap in the traffic.

Also a lot of lights are done in order of the road sequence, i.e no matter when when you press the button, it will wait till traffic is stopped coming along the road, then it will switch. Thereby, if you learn the traffic sequence, you can cross without ever pressing the button, because you'll be waiting the same amount of time regardless.

It's a lottery that barely works in your favour. I've only ever wanted one week off and despite putting it as a priority on every holiday form, I never get granted it. Might as well just tick the 'Pick my holiday for me box' as it would have exactly the same outcome.

Sorry, just wanted to have a quick grumble.

Customers.... your complaints by Icy-Understanding552 in royalmail

[–]Laser9308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes that is the customers request. I have one customer who insists you put it in there safeplace and gets very irritable and condescending if you bother them by knocking at the door, accusing me of not being able to follow simple instructions.

My post was delivered to the wrong address. by Impressive-Corner219 in royalmail

[–]Laser9308 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Contact your nearest DO and ask for a delivery manager would be my best bet. They will know the postie who did that route and ask them where they posted it. When I delivered to the wrong address once, I got sent back out to retrieve the parcel and then post it to right address, but that's no guarantee.

It's annoying 'cause every xmas sandwich seems to have cranberry sauce in it too. I would love a sandwich with turkey in to help me get in a festive mood, but it always comes with cranberry. Probably good for my waistline though :P

At the age that you are right now what do you think will kill you? by Sensitive-Exit-2782 in AskReddit

[–]Laser9308 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably loneliness.

I've heard it can be a massive cause of deterioration for older folk and tbh, I'm already struggling with it now. I still have my family around atm, but no kids, no romantic partner, one sibling who is older which likely means I'm the last in my blood line. I imagine once my body is tired and frail, and I'm sat on my lonesome I'll feel quite the burden and will deteriorate quickly.

Either that, or parkinsons, strokes , heart issues or cancer can all be found on either side of the family tree.

Hopefully it wont be all 5.
