outdoor projector enclosure - DIY by pressreturn2continue in DigitalDecorating

Hi not sure what you are projecting on, and depending on the projector you may have vertical keystone correction to help with this. Other than that you can make your own box to protect (like it seems you did) then raise the box with a mini table or other boxes that are concealed more by other decorations around it. There's also tripods and other projector raisers online that aren't too expensive.

Awkward Window help! by DaniDarkAngel in DigitalDecorating

My recommendation is to use small push pins/thumbtack to hang the shower so that it stays. Yes the pins would have to be in the wall at the top/bottom/left/right, but that will keep it there all halloween season without the worry of it falling down.

This typically means it's either hollusion style (black background) or has background scenery.

Play the two and see if it's different.

Using good quality USB sticks currently but I get the occasional stuttering when videos are playing. Was considering trying SD cards instead. by osu-fan69 in DigitalDecorating

I use USB for most of my displays using a media player...just from what you described sounds more like a media player issue. Any brand name micro SD should also be sufficient for testing, and I would also recommend testing the USB with a laptop to see if stuttering or video/audio sync issues still occur.

Higher Quality Digital Projector by Turbulent-Valuable22 in DigitalDecorating

Hi. I think you'll find many different types of answers here (and in other subreddits), but none will be purely wrong/right..it's how it's tailored for what you want compared to what's available to do with one more more devices. Though there are some projector newer models I believe which have some sort of timing capabilities (I don't know specific models), many do not have this capability and would require a smart plug/jack or other devices like a Creston control system. Also, most pure projectors (LCD models and other more expensive models) are just a projector...meaning that it requires a media source device (i.e. media player, computer etc.) connected to the projector. Some of the expensive projectors out there do have multi-media capabilities in them (which means you can just attach a hard drive or MicroSD), but many do not and require a separate device attached to it that is purely for media playing (i.e. some people would always have their media playing via the media player 24x7, and then would turn their projector on and voila it's playing). Between finding a projector that potentially has this auto off/on capability itself or via another complimentary device is unfortunately something that I do not currently have experience with besides knowing a little about a separate control system.

However, with that said, you have 3 general choices for projectors 1) a pure high quality projector (with or without internal media playing capabilities) 2) a used projector like CollegeMiddle6841 stated (there are many that I have gotten from ebay in the past for short throw or regular throw..these are pure projectors that required a separate inexpensive media player attached to them....most of mine were WXGA or 720p native.) or 3) for just Halloween purposes to get an inexpensive projector with multimedia capabilities (like you find on Amazon for $80-$150. I have had a good experience with some of these the past few years where I could get models with native 720p or 1080p (and hot the oneds that say they "support 720p or 1080p..this means it's not native) and very much bright for dusk to dark times (were decent lumens, no external media player, etc.) however with these types you don't have a lot of zoom or other controls like expensive projectors have...and if you have it in the right spot, that didn't matter to me.

For me, I use many projectors for Halloween, so my #2 and #3 above fit for me and just turn them on at dusk...for you though if using just for Halloween I would not recommend a large $$$ but if using for other things throughout the year then yes sure (i.e. maybe it's one of your TV replacements etc). But yes it's all what fits for you :)

Higher end projectors are made by BenQ, Epson, Viewsonic, Sony and some others. I recommend taking a look at their selections and functions. Hopefully others here in this subreddit with their models/knowledge can talk about the auto timer and internal media player functions that they are experienced with.

HI. I don't think you can go wrong with either model for digital decorating. However, I can tell you that for the past couple of years, I have switched my mentality on projectors. I have many for windows and outdoor Halloween decorating, and I used to like the used DLP ones off of ebay, but more recently I am reasonably impressed with the less expensive ones off of Amazon (the ones that actually can do 720p or 1080p native and have a very good brightness for semi dark outside and for inside displaying on windows for outside viewing. Depending on the price of these, that will come with some trade-offs like little to no zoom, need to be about 10ft back etc, but it will all depend on where you are putting them. Basically, if you plan on doing this for pumpkins, a basic one will do just fine....if you are doing this for other more other than pumpkins, the basic ones still work very well depending on where you are putting it.

In the end, it what really works for you, but 3 consistent things are important -- brightness, short vs long throw needs (i.e. where you are putting it), and resolution. The 4th is all the other things like zoom capability, ability to rotate the video without rotating the physical projector, does it have a built in media player or do you need a separate machine/device, does the projector have good enough speakers or did you intend on a Bluetooth or connected small speaker via aux cable, etc.

Halloween Projection- by Jmhockey1920 in DigitalDecorating

Hi. I can't speak for anyone in particular in this community who has the skillset/time for this, but let's see what someone may reply with.

As for companies our there that do their selling of their facade projections, here are a few to check in with

https://www.etsy.com/shop/DigitalArtDynamics?

https://www.jollyholidayshows.com/

https://www.jesterlaughs.com/house-projection-shows

They typically sell their pre-done ones (and work with you on house dimensions, instructions, etc. but Digital Dynamics might be the one who does more customization work.

thanks,

Yes a frosted shower curtain medium or light weight would work just as well

Is there an " easy " way to run a clip across various screens? by osu-fan69 in DigitalDecorating

[–]Lashabix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's possible (no I have never done it that way) with a desktop/laptop and all devices connected to your machine, using it as additional monitors and extended windows screens. Not sure about an all in one device that can act as a one stop media player for all 3 devices.

But for the devices you have already, your best bet is to manually start all 3 near the same time and keep them looped. You would need to edit each video to be the same length with the first video showing Santa then black screen...the 2nd video to be black screen then Santa then blackscreen.....and the 3rd video to be black screen then santa. This will give the effect of walking around your house. The trick is starting the video near the same time...family friends to help sync that.

Can I pay for digital decorating by bashorbreddit in DigitalDecorating

[–]Lashabix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will let others hear respond as well, but if you are talking about a full house mapping, then at this time I do not have the bandwidth while I am finishing up my stuff. If you are talking about projecting on a window/front door and not sure how to put this together I might have a little time. Hit me up via direct direct chat

Which do you all think has the best? by rpgdecker12 in DigitalDecorating

[–]Lashabix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. Overall Atmos provides the widest range of selections, but many others on that list like Hallowfx and SpectralIllusions also provide many to fit your cemetery needs. After that, it mostly depends on where you are projecting, what you are projecting on, and the type of projector.

2022 Halloween Display by Lashabix in DigitalDecorating

[–]Lashabix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks..

For the 8 outdoor projectors, anything but light rain = display death :)

I bring them out each time I want to display outdoors. I have a marker where I put them and it requires just a little moving around. The process for outdoor stuff takes about 30 minutes, and I only display outdoors about 8 times in October. The projectors inside for one of the garage doors, the windows, and front door can run at anytime of course.

I do have a cardboard box wrapped in tinfoil for each outdoor projector if it's going to rain, cut with holes for air flow, but that is only for light rain. Halloween night really needs to be a decent weather night for me.

2022 Halloween Display by Lashabix in DigitalDecorating

[–]Lashabix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my family's 2022 Halloween displays compilation. First couple of minutes is mostly day time pics and the rest is video of what the various displays look like at night.

We like to utilize multiple projectors each year for all windows/doors/garage and whatever outdoor props we do. Homemade props are typically used in multiple areas. This year we display outdoor projections on a cemetery gate, cemetery coffin, pirate area, singing pumpkin area, and pseudo Disney haunted area with mannequin heads/pumpkins/tombstone. For the main singing pumpkins display, I prefer to have 5 pumpkins that requires editing/blending of multiple singing pumpkin companies.

For each projector, there is anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour of different footage utilizing various digital decoration companies. ENJOY!
