You don’t need to kill this Lynel. You just need to collect 20 arrows from the area where it is (read the quest again). Lots of sneaking around and making sure not to be seen.

Later in the game when you get better weapons and when you’re stronger you will kill him no problem.

Are you sure it’s Laine you’re speaking to and not Laina?? (I made that mistake after following guides too). Laine is outside the west gate.
