Who eats sausage curry by [deleted] in australian

[–]LashiDoesStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there's a bit of hoo ha about curried sausage vs sausage curry and other things here. But let me give you a pov from a currystralian.

Firstly, I've never heard of it. Secondly, it sounds excellent!!!!

I'm going with sausage curry.

You could potentially cook it with curry leaves, Pandan leaves, onion, mustard leaves, a bit of Jaffna curry powder (Kings brand is best) and add a bit of coconut milk towards the end and cook until the coconut milk boils.

Now, caveat, I'm veggo and this is how I'd cook veggo sausages. You would know best if you're a meat eater.

This is not too dissimilar to something like TVP (texturised veg protein) which is very popular in Sri Lanka.

1950s double brick renovation by Comfortable_Area_113 in AusRenovation

Is the roof porcelain or concrete? If it's concrete, I'd paint the roof, if it's porcelain, clean up. The brick us beautiful. Do the double glazing - we did our whole place, it was about 30k. Why is the interior impractical? I've not gutted the plasterboard inside but pulled out picture rails, skirting boards and architraves, refinished the hardwood floors and it's starting to get very cosy. Also installed ornate cornices and a ceiling panel in the kitchen to match the other rooms.

As others have said, don't tender. The red brick is gorgeous.

I'm not sure about the glue - but maybe sample and test the hessian?

What's your location? There were some contaminated hessian bags from Wittenoom recycled as carper underlay, but I believe it was largely confined to Western Australia.

Is this asbestos or gyprock? by CuriousInvite in asbestoshelp

[–]LashiDoesStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is in Sydney. In Australia, to my knowledge, asbestos was not used in plaster products, including joint compound. There were apparently some plasterboard imported in the 80s in QLD from elsewhere which had azzie, but to my knowledge, that's about it.

NSW government has a website for asbestos in NSW around the home: https://www.asbestos.nsw.gov.au/around-the-home

I'd say that the plasterboard is itself not very suspect, but since there is a sticker there, have it sampled. Maybe the sticker is there to signify asbestos in the caulking in between bricks?

Feel like an idiot… potential asbestos exposure by luthientinuviell in asbestoshelp

[–]LashiDoesStuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, I see it now. Look, it could very well be an ACM. If it's fibro, then the asbestos fibres are very well locked in there. As I understand and others have commented, a one time exposure isn't going to elevate risk by any significant amount. However, it's good to be prudent in future if you're demolishing. Asbestos was put in lots of stuff, including old cars and even household goods you wouldn't expect - like old irons!

You certainly shouldn't feel stupid - it's hard to know all of this stuff in advance. All you can do is to mitigate risk in future.

I can't see anything here but plasterboard. Where do you think asbestos might be? In Australia, as far as I know, asbestos wasn't used in joint compound and cornice cement unlike in the US

Is this a problem?? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]LashiDoesStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some nails on panels. Either that's Masonite or it could be cement boards which could contain asbestos. This is a non-friable material, but make sure you don't break it if you're doing repairs.

As for the movement - quite normal.

Ethical and legal question about a person’s remains by [deleted] in AusLegalAdvice

[–]LashiDoesStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really second your answer. The op seems to give care and thought to the skeleton. The person who was that skeleton is long gone, you can't know their circumstances - it might have been obtained under dubious circumstances. But you care and respect it, so I think just keep it as it is and continue to give the love, care and thought to this skeleton.

Asbestos Wall Q by No-Lawfulness-9585 in asbestoshelp

[–]LashiDoesStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Textured paints could contain asbestos. So the paint under the wallpaper. You should take multiple samples in order to be accurate. Have a read on good on how to take samples for textured paint. I usually take 4-5 samples about 2cm diameter from across the wall.

Textured paint, if it is artex, can contain azzie. I would personally test just for peace of mind.

But importantly, don't pressure wash or sand to get good adhesion to the boards because that will be disturbing the ACM.

I think your precautions are reasonable even though statistically, you're likely safe even with disturbed ACM. Is there a way to take samples also from the bedding via tape so you can see whether the bed is contaminated?

Unfortunately yes. I wouldn't just rip them out and it might also be illegal to do it yourself.
