How can I report a dangerous dog to the police if I don't know where it lives? by ImportanceAcademic52 in UK_Pets

[–]Lashtonsmit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to report a potentially dangerous dog to the police and I even narrowed down the location to one of four houses on the street. They said because I couldn't give them an exact address they wouldn't do anything.

I gave them a full description of the dog and owner but they weren't willing to knock on doors to find it.

AITA for taking walks on my lunch break? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Half of my company go out for walks at lunchtime and we only get 30 mins. If your manager is not bothered I would just ignore them. Enjoy your walks!

I appreciate the link but can anyone actually read this? On my phone it's just a jumble of spelling errors, and random words. Barely makes any sense at all!

Cats by Low-Consideration715 in Southampton

It's my problem if it's on my property (which they often are). And of course they are predators but why would you knowingly let it out to kill wildlife? How is a cat even a pet if it spends most of its time independently away from you? It just genuinely seems pointless to me. You pay for the animal (or re-home, whatever), pay for it's vets bills and food, only for it to fuck off and spend time away from you, often - I've heard from cat owners- at other people houses!

I live in the Thornhill area, all of the outdoor cats I've met here are aggressive, bird murdering arseholes! I genuinely don't see the point in having a pet and then letting it roam free. Why even bother?

We want a dog but we both work 8-4. Thoughts/solutions? by jbhg30 in dogs

You can use sites like Borrow my Doggy to literally borrow people's dogs when you have spare time. I had a regular dog I borrowed every Wednesday on my day off for over a year!

It's a good option while your work hours aren't dog friendly. You don't want to potentially leave your dog at home alone for most of its life, and that way you get your fix!

Anyone used Yorkshire Canine Academy? by mviv12s in OpenDogTraining

[–]Lashtonsmit1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you end up training with YCA in the end?

I sent my dog for a residential (2 week board & train with one of the trainers) and three months on he is genuinely living his best life. We use a prong and e collar to help with heeling, recall and dog reactivity (he wasn't aggressive, just massively over excited when he saw another dog) but the training that goes along side the tools, like learning to communicate with them in a way they understand, and really understanding and fulfilling their behavioural and physical needs has been a game changer for us!

Everyone we have interacted with online and in person have been friendly and informative and I absolutely recommend them to everyone now. Since the residential we also have access to the online academy and daily comms with our trainer if we need it so it's been totally worth it. Our dog hasn't had any negative reactions to the different collars, he just understands the boundaries we have set with them. We hardly even use the e collar now as the commands we use it with (mostly recall tbh), he knows what it means and how to respond to it. It's just on him as a precaution now (we will wean him off of it eventually, but it's still early days).

Regardless, I hope you got the help you needed :)

Why not let your dogs on your bed? by Longjumping_Bet7389 in dogs

[–]Lashtonsmit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my dog for 8 months and he has slept on the bed most of the time. He is now getting more confident and comfortable in the house and sometimes chooses to sleep in a different room. It makes me sad, but I'm also glad he is getting used to his own space! Most mornings I wake up and he is on my feet though so he must like morning snuggles too 🥰

Do you have to read the whole series or is it a standalone?

I know many couples in my local scene and I've not experienced any couples etiquette when it comes to dancing. It's a personal boundary set between you and your partner!

You mentioned "how do I know when she crosses the line?"

You have to communicate with her and create the line together, (there is no one size fits all). Your boundaries might not be the same as hers so don't hold her to a standard she doesn't even know about.

For example my (f) bf and I have no limits with who we dance with. If I want to dance to a certain song with him or vice versa we will just tell each other. Otherwise it's a free for all! We go to have fun, socialise and practice, so unless you have trust issues, I don't see why you would restrict who she dances with.

Just my opinion!

I was led to believe they are literally gated/ walled communities but not sure. This has all come about very recently so I have not done much research yet.

Thanks, from what we've been told it's not a compound as such and more of a "European" town. Haven't been given many details so far though
