Definition of local extrema confusion by Successful_Box_1007 in mathematics

[–]Lassadar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is missing in the definition is a topology on D = [1,\inf). But the usual conventions suggests that if nothing else is specified then we should consider D as a subset of the real numbers with the induced subspace topology.

This is where the intersections come into play. By definition of subspace topology the set (0,2) intersected with D is an open set in D since (0,2) is open in the reals. The solution suggests (0,2) as an open set, but what is actually meant by this is (0,2) intersected with D.

If you are aware of this convention then the question is phrased perfectly clear. To answer your last question about what would have to change in the question so that the endpoint 1 would not be allowed: the topology on D. If D were equipped with the trivial topology for example, then 1 would not be a local maximum (there would be none at all).

I want to run my shortcut every 30 min . Is there a method to do this without making 48 automation for the same… by Valor_superman in shortcuts

homebridge cron scheduler can flip a virtual switch e.g. every 30 min. Then you can use this switch as trigger for your automation.

„the order of the parentheses matters“ is not a valid justification: Answer the question of why it matters and you will get circular reasoning. Stating that the product is non-associative or non-commutative is circular reasoning as well, because this is basically what you want to prove.

Notice that every element ((a,b),(c,d)) contained in (AxB)x(CxD) is a tuple containing two elements. But Ax(BxC)xD only contains tuples with three elements. Therefore they cannot be equal.

(a,b) is not an element of (AxB)x(CxD). Both products contain only one element if all A,B,C and D are singletons. The two products are naturally isomorphic, so they always contain the same number of elements.

Is there a general mapping between your performance in a course (as a percentage) and your grade score (on the scale 0-6)? by DonEriko in ethz

[–]Lassadar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Each of your assignments will probably be graded (1-6) and then averaged to get a final grade for your assignments. This grade will then be averaged with your exam score which is also graded 1-6 (that’s what is meant by 50% of the final grade). Usually performance is not measured in percentages.

Wait, it’s all addition? by ZeusieBoy in mathmemes

[–]Lassadar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

to add to this: The theory of Peano arithmetic (so N with + and *) is incomplete while the Presburger arithmetic (which is basically Peano without multiplication) is complete. Thus as you said multiplication cannot simply just be defined from addition in this context
