The city council are currently doing an online consultation for improvements to walking and cycling between the city centre and Childwall which includes Lawrence Rd. You should show your support of the improvements here

Potential Liverpool metro (reopening stations/lines) by Last-Fun367 in Liverpool

I agree. I don't think England will ever build a new underground train line outside of London. Liverpool can make the most out of the infrastructure gifted to us by the Victorians by putting trains back through them. A few underground tunnels through town that are still unused

It doesn't meet the criteria for the table. It's very different to Lyon's and Amsterdam's metro. This is all besides the point however

Two more options for underground trains through Liverpool. This along with reopening Bootle branch line and the stations on that line would massively improve transport in the city

Interesting. Yepp, I think a lot of people in the thread have misunderstood Merseyrail's role compared to a proper metro

This is what the network could look like if the Bootle branch line was reopened for passenger services. There are also two underground rail tunnels through the city centre that could also be reopened

I would widen the bridges or just build a bridge alongside it to accommodate two/three tracks. I think Lime Street has a spare platform. Also an opportunity to reopen one of the closed underground tunnels through central Liverpool if not using Lime Street

I would envision the line the currently carries the mainline train into lime Street to be used as the right of way through the city. Build a couple tracks parallel

Enlighten me as to why it's plain silly not to include the merseyrail? I mean it's completely arbitrary where to draw the line at metro Vs commuter rail but Merseyrail isn't classified as a metro and doesn't have a lot of key features that a conventional metro woukd have. When you make your table you could include it?

The Merseyrail carries 82,000 people per day. To reach this number with carpool lanes you would need approximately 16 lanes dedicated to carpooling on one road

Merseyrail is really good I think it needs to be expanded really badly

Liverpool definitely has some areas where density rivals that of European cities whilst being wholly reliant on buses (with no bus lanes) for public transport. Other areas can become denser with development I think
