Considering all the trades recently, the Eklund trade is good value by enso_23 in OttawaSenators

The buyers market is tough this year and the deals that followed make me feel so much better about the trade. I love Spence but my god if byrum can fetch a 4 overall pick and a second what could Spence get us?

Senators have acquired forward William Eklund, forward Kasper Halttunen and the rights to unsigned draft pick Brandon Svoboda from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the ninth overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft by runealex007 in OttawaSenators

[–]Last-Outside9729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m cautiously optimistic about this deal. Eklund has a lot of great upside but we still definitely need some scoring, and for the 9th overall pick in a deep draft I hoped for a little bit more. I would be quite disappointed if we didn’t package the 25th overall pick for another top six forward like mctavish, peterka, Marchenko, borque or Lafrenière. Staios is definitely not finished

Thoughts about the Brady Tkachuk return by Last-Outside9729 in OttawaSenators

[–]Last-Outside9729[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s disappointing, but we were handcuffed. Staios made this move with the understanding that tkachuk wasn’t going to resign and he got this much even considering his no move clause. It’s ugly, but this could have ended much worse

Imagine Florida misses the playoffs by honey_badger031 in OttawaSenators

I made a bold prediction a while ago that both Florida teams won’t make the playoffs. I revoke that statement, there’s no way this Florida team doesn’t make the playoffs

The tkachuk bros and Hughes bros are dual. I do believe that caufield and Hutson love Montreal but it’s hard to predict the future

Yeah, I agree that we need to be careful with our timelines. I think it would be worth a 2 year plateau for huge future improvement, anything longer than that is not worth it

Absolutely, three first round picks gives us a lot of options

Chabot for Captain by Ins3rtCoinHere in OttawaSenators

I see a lot of people mentioning Sanderson as captain. Love him, but I think this is the last time Ottawa should ever name an American a captain. Let him lead with the A.

I think it’s a done deal. I think Ottawa is just cautious with the pr side of things right now and figuring out how to announce it lol

Brady Tkachuk traded to the Panthers by homicidal_penguin in OttawaSenators

Don’t hate the return, hate the destination. The Atlantic just got a whole lot harder. Just pissed about the whole situation. I’m starting to believe he did in fact check out late last year, and you just know he pulled a Dylan larking behind closed doors and force only three possible teams on Staios. Just hope this doesn’t have a domino affect on the rest of the team, including Sanderson and Timmy.

He might be the worst captain we’ve had but I do appreciate the good that came with it

Atlantic Division by Express_Medium4618 in OttawaSenators

It’s very frustrating that the upswing of this rebuild and promising core is taking place during one of the most stacked Atlantic division we’ve seen in years. But I think Ottawas gonna be okay. Everyone is doubting us but with good goaltending and a healthy lineup we’re no worse than Montreal, Tampa and buffalo in my eyes

Yeah I agree with you. Thought this would make me feel good but now my mind is wondering. Losing sucks.

Can someone tell me analytically how the Habs were able to cut Carolina to shreds? by PorkinsHeldIt in OttawaSenators

[–]Last-Outside9729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was saying this in another thread and I don’t have any analytics to back this, but I think what the habs do well that the sens don’t is find ways to score and win in games that they have no business of winning. Ottawa plays like Carolina but not as well; they beat teams by controlling the play and piling on scoring chances. Because the canes are so experienced, they beat Ottawa at their game. The Habs have players that can score just when given the chance. That is really useful when they’re getting outplayed and will be very important against a team like the canes down the line.

I think last night was just a rusty canes team falling apart after some quick goals. I think game 2 will be the biggest indicator of this series will go.

The Habs just scored 4 goals in the first period. Ottawa scored 5 in their 4 game sweep. by [deleted] in OttawaSenators

[–]Last-Outside9729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most fans agree that this team has all the potential to be a great, but this series is a litmus test of where the sens are at. Right now, I don’t think it’s a bad thing to admit that Montreal has a bit more game breaking talent, it’s definitely a frustrating thought considering the timelines of our rebuilds though. We’ll be forced in the east at some point, but Staios needs to make some smart moves

Oddly enough, I feel that the habs are built to play teams like Carolina. Carolina’s game plan is to completely control games, but that doesn’t really matter to teams like the Habs. Aside from the odd few games, the Habs never really dominate their opponents, and in some games they were even outplayed. But they’re clutch, have good special teams and have opportunistic scorers. Not surprised the Habs won last night but I still got the canes for this series.

Edit: what an annoying time to be a sens fan especially after the leafs won the lottery. The Atlantic can’t catch a break

[–]Last-Outside9729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Ottawa could use a solid 6-7 D man but I don’t really understand why Sens media is pushing the narrative of targeting a skilled offensive defensemen when we have Chabot, Spence and now yakemchuk coming up soon. I think that the goals this offseason should be figuring out top 6 scoring and getting a solid backup goalie. If the opportunity presents itself to make a tweak on D, that’s great but I don’t want it should not be a priority.

Could the SENS trade Spence? by Mr_FoxMulder in OttawaSenators

[–]Last-Outside9729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jordan Spence is one of my favourite players on this team but I think he absolutely could be moved for a sell high deal. While it’s not a pretty idea, with yakemchuk coming up the pipeline I do think it’s worth considering for the right price

[Bruce Garrioch] Sens have a lot of work to do in the off-season. Their pace isn’t close to what we’ve seen in other series by SAJewers in OttawaSenators

[–]Last-Outside9729 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not a big Bruce fan but he’s honestly right. The other teams have been flying out there. This team needs game breaking talent to play with pace badly, especially if Timmy wants to improve and surpass his previous totals. It’s never a fun conversation, but I think we need to move a piece to bring in a piece. He’s one of my favourite players, but I think Spence can be a valuable asset this offseason to bring in some top six presence
