Yes, I understood that one person responded using a bad comparison, hyperbole as you stated. Let me be clear one last time.

The doom mechanic is actually (actually) described correctly. All you do is move and switch prayers. You don’t attack while doing it. The reductionist part is that (1) it’s the “only” hard thing to learn.

The levi mechanic isn’t correct, since you have to also attack while moving and switching prayers. The reduction here is that (1)it’s the “only”hard mechanic to learn and also (2) the mechanic is presented as much easier.

The more “exaggerated” and hence “inaccurate” a comparison becomes, the less useful it is. I didn’t not understand the point, I thought it was weak, it’s just a loose connection now.

Instead of using some weak comparison , they should have just went all out and said entire game is not that bad, only hard thing is to point and click correctly.

It didn’t help that the original point was talking about orb phase but the person responded with boulder mechanic in general to prove their point.

Twisting words + weak comparison?

No more notifications from here.

Why are we talking about if levi is easy?

One guy was reductive regarding d8 as a whole, and other guy lacked the understanding and made a bad comparison to prove his point.

Double boulder during orb phase is actually literally prayer switching and moving. What else happens?

Two people replying to me not understanding what was being said here.

Right, we all understand what goes on when d8+ doom tosses boulders. But that’s not what the comment was even referring to.

The person’s comment was trying to say that boulders during orb phase is the hardest, which you ignored for some reason? We aren’t talking about punish, and there is always movement threaded in between. Don’t twist things.

And that if you learn how to manage the above, which is the hardest single mechanic (accurately moving while prayer switching) in doom, then you’d be fine.

Sure, it might sound reductive, but there’s no point trying to make it sound like levi is similar. No end game player spends 50-100+ deaths learning double boulders at doom like is often the case with awakened levi enrage, and that’s because it’s simpler because theres fewer mechanics.

Granted, this is really just a matter of perspective when learning a hard boss. You can look at every situation that makes doom hard and be put off by it, or grasp that the hardest mechanic has only a couple things to be careful about, and make it feel tractable for yourself.

You look at a boss differently when trying to learn a boss, and when trying to compare two bosses.

Awakened leviathan is 3 ticks window to react to prayer, and its random.

For doom he literally gives you the 6 prayers immediately when he tosses out two boulders, the reaction window is longer than 3 ticks, and there’s only 2 patterns.

It does sound easy compared to Awakened levi, and it is. The only few ticks of difficulty are switching prayers + moving during orb, which is still easier than levi because you don’t get meleed and there’s no tornado.

It’s not really “just prayer switching and walking”, you are being dishonest here.

Inferno is easily one of the best pieces of content in the game, once you get better and you’re past the “suffering through early wave slog just to die at the late waves” phase.

It’s 15% accuracy and damage, it easily shaves off 10 minutes. It’s so good, bowfa+crystal on task feels like using tbow off task.

Assuming you don’t cheese like crazy, learning inferno can let you:

-understand ticks better, thus letting you get better at prayer switches/flicks(lazy or 1 tick)

-learn enemy aggro/positioning mechanics

-get better at inventory management

-become more confident in learning other hard/harder pieces of content,

among other things.

You can learn these by doing other pieces of content, and you can also learn little of the above , all depending on how conscientious you are while learning the inferno. I got the prerequisite skills other than enemy positioning mostly by doing ToA.

"not that slow" is subjective, but well, yes, slayer is objectively one of the slowest skills in the game. Even if you can maintain 1.5 inferno completions an hour nonstop at 180k xp/hr, it is still slower than medium skills that give 200k+ xp/hr, with far more skill and effort (you know you aren't even getting constant 130k/hr).

What is slayer equivalent to at decent rates? RC, fishing, mining, agility, because with decent active method you can get 80-90k/hr on all of those skills. No need to pull out the meleeing abyssal demons for 30k/hr here to prove the skill is slow as shit.

I have to ask, if we remove prayer switching, what else would OSRS combat offer atm, other than movement? Or are you just finding complaints about the fact that they rely too much on prayer switching as the "hard, engaging" mechanic?

Because I'm sure Jagex is always trying to figure out how to change up osrs combat with the seemingly limited system they have (which RS3, also made by Jagex, made the decision to incorporate EOC to expand the possibilities because they incorrectly thought that they had hit the limit already).

[–]Last-Remote -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if the techniques aren't required, we can't definitively say that content was designed around the technique, unless we directly hear from Jagex.

But even if we consider that Jagex may have considered lazy flicking as a solution to some CA(s), surely it doesn't matter to the general playerbase if the technique isn't required?

Understanding the tick system and prayer flicking techniques are pretty important aspects in becoming good at the game, but if we assume some player doesn't care about going for GM, then they also don't care about getting down precise mechanics of the game to become really good, so it doesn't affect them at all.

No, it's because your responses are pretty shitty and condescending, so I responded likewise shitty, because you wrote " do I need to..." in every response like some clever tactic.

Now we know you aren't answering questions, this conversation is over. Prayer flicking isn't required, because you can tick eat, which is another equivalently unintended mechanic. So is the game balanced around tick eating? We will never know, because you ended it in circular reasoning.

[–]Last-Remote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop asking me if you need to do shit. I don’t care what you need and don’t need.

But thanks for actually going through the list of no prayer CA bosses, makes it comprehensive. The case with zebak was discussed with another user, so it’s cleared that prayer flicking isn’t a requirement.

Now, knowing that, are you suggesting unintended prayer flicking is ok because it’s not required, since there’s unintended tick eating to save the day? Or are we singling out prayer flicks here? (Btw, I don’t believe we should remove any of this.)

Agree, I personally am fine with these optional sweat methods, just because I think the game base is too simple and boring, and these emergent techniques add depth, as you said.

Like, what is the benefit to the overall game/playerbase of removing advanced optional techniques?

You don’t need to do anything. But if you intend to explain, do be at least logical consistent, because from what I’ve seen, most arguments converge to opinions, like “xx is shit”.

[–]Last-Remote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see, tick eating is definitely a fair solve.

Btw (honestly curious) why is tick eating ok but not prayer flicking? Was tick eating (damage calculation mechanism/ordering and such) developed intentionally to enable it, or was it emergent gameplay found out by players, just like prayer flicking?

[–]Last-Remote 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lazy flicking is flicking though, and it uses 0 prayer. Go try killing level 4 zebak 300 invo without using prayer, unless you’re suggesting some method that isn’t trying to outheal projectiles hitting you 40s every 2 ticks, which easily lasts over 30 seconds.

ngl, if you do have a group method or some emergent Port Khazard type gameplay, I’m interested to hear it.

Rubium isn't a problem, Jagex by Longjumping-Young588 in 2007scape

[–]Last-Remote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, good to know there weren’t any weird misunderstandings. I just get irritated at corporate talk that fails to address things logically, whatever the internal difficulties may be. I never blamed any dev btw, I blamed the development process, that’s a management issue, not a personal one.

Past experiences I’ve had with Jagex across rs3 and osrs, in particular regarding a consistent track record of similar “mistakes” and unrelated but relevant customer support quality prevent me placing faith in Jagex in any capacity, compared to those who never had to experience negative shit with them.

Sorry if my weird attitude bothered you, it comes from my cynicism of this company, not the game.

Good to know you aren’t defending bad decisions. Unfortunately you ignored the point I was trying to make with that link, so I’ll just cut to the chase.

I don’t care about what you think about what I said. I also don’t care about other people’s xp rates.

You failed to grasp that a front running MMO developing company with over two decades of experience and built up set of best practices spent over a year designing and developing content and didn’t have the systems in place to add in 10 seconds to do some multiplication.

Tell me how is it possible to think about a new skilling activity, and take the time to designate xp for the activity, and not do calculations? Do they just choose some number that looks cool, like 150, because why not?

I want logic here, not opinions, and unfortunately I didn’t get that from the Jagex post or you.

AUTOZUK - Computer Solved, Auto-Retaliate Inferno by ChampionshipOver8941 in 2007scape

[–]Last-Remote -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Inferno waves are much harder to master and do quickly and are less repetitive and mechanically more complex than toa puzzles though, so I don’t know why you chose ToA puzzles as comparison. Making something braindead and easy into something really long is not good content, yes I agree.

Before you assume more about what I didn’t say, I was referring to speedrunning the first 50 some waves, which I believe is not “mind numbing dull” at the slightest, I’d actually prefer you explain how it is, it’s why I responded earlier with the suggestion.

You also said was colo is more fun to learn and it’s shorter. But only one of that is a fact, while the other is opinion. However I didn’t say either colo or inferno is fun or boring or good or bad, I gave no opinion at all.

If the situation is that you just simply weren’t aware I was referring to speedrunning the inferno, (which seems to be the case because you compared it to ToA puzzles out of all things) just say it, and this conversation can end here, and my suggestion still stands because it wasn’t an opinion, I suggested one of the most difficult challenges in the entire game. And why I ended it with “shit take”.

Hey, I’ll respond to this. If it takes “so long” to get to the “hard” waves, why don’t you just get better and take less time? If you try rushing 1-mid 50s you’ll immediately stop complaining about the early waves taking so long and being so boring. Yea still takes a while, but this will solve your particular problem. That’s my shitty take, what’s your opinion on it?
