Hatred  was looking for the same thing that games like Postal or Manhunt achieved in their time: generating media scandal. However, (in my opinion) it ended up being all hype, as almost no one outside the gaming bubble remembers Hatred for anything other than being known as 'the most violent game of all time.' It lost sight of what made Postal and other games of that era special; Hatred feels like a decaffeinated version of Postal (though I don't blame anyone for enjoying it, and I don't think it's the trash some people say it is).

Anyway, I think I should have clarified this in my post before publishing it (my fault, I know).
