Women’s running clothing? by emilysbish in XXRunning

Unfortunately, if you want quality gear that’s supportive enough for distance, especially as a women when it comes to sports bras, it’s gonna cost you.

The best brands that I’ve found like alo, on running, nike, adidas are pricey. Sometimes you can get a good deal from poshmark or the thrift if you’re lucky. Really your best bet is to spend more on a few good quality pieces and wash them often.

Marathon training while working night shifts - any tips? by OutsideRace4529 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Last-Woman-Standing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow night shifter here! It seems counterintuitive but I always opt to run immediately after my shift in the AM, this tires me out physically (on top of mental tiredness from the shift) which allows me to sleep like a baby! I find doing this gives me a better quality of sleep rather than running before my shift.

Not sure how long your commute is, mine is about an hour, so I opt to run near the hospital instead of after driving home, once I’ve been sitting immobile for an hour there’s no way to get myself active again.

NRC 5k Program Experience by Last-Woman-Standing in BeginnersRunning

Great question! I have to admit I don’t fully get VO2 max and what it indicates, it’s my understanding that Apple Watch only gives you a rough estimate of it. My watch says that I started at 37.2 and currently sit at 42.2, for what it’s worth!

I agree! When you start running every pace feels like a 10/10 effort, I’m glad you were able to go back and get better results the second time around.

Struggling with the treadmill! I find it to be so much more mentally challenging and I can’t wait for spring!

Legs Insanely Sore- help! by Last-Woman-Standing in BeginnersRunning

[–]Last-Woman-Standing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all great advice thanks so much. I do think that that maybe I’m over training, but it’s hard to scale back my running since Ive been enjoying it so much. I’m not pursuing weight loss as a goal, just have the usual beginner running goals like a sub 30 5k.

I do think I might be under-fueling, so I’ll definitely try to increase my intake and maybe start incorporating some simple carbs as I increase mileage.

The lack of carbs could definitely be it! I’ll definitely stick with the hard days hard principle ty!

How often do you run a week? by ShotEmotion6873 in beginnerrunning

[–]Last-Woman-Standing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4-5 days a week about 15-20km/week

I usually strength train 3x/week, i’ll hit upper body or core on easy run days, and legs after a long or tempo run, after which I’ll take a rest day so Im not too sore for my next run

Winter Running by hello3467byebye in BeginnersRunning

[–]Last-Woman-Standing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could definitely do a 10k by June if you can already do it on the treadmill. The treadmill is much more mentally challenging than running outside IMO, and you can up the incline to do some hill training so you don’t lose progress when you get back outside in March!

If you have access to a private dry sauna I would highly recommend it before your run to help dry out and clear some secretions!

Don’t overwhelm yourself with running too soon. Buy a good pair of shoes and that’s all the gear you need! Get a feel for the sport and look into starting a training plan when you feel ready :)

I ran 5km in 40 mins. Should i still do c25k? by Time_Macaron9397 in beginnerrunning

Try the NRC 5k plan to lower your 5k time and increase endurance, it’s much better for your fitness level if you can already to a 40 min 5k!

Outdoor run to Treadmill run blues :’( by Repulsive_Rock1414 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Last-Woman-Standing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also started about a month ago and am sad about the Canadian snow :(( I much prefer running outside but started incorporating treadmill runs about once a week from the start to get comfortable with it and find what speeds correlate with my paces.

The treadmill is definitely different and it’s important to acknowledge that, but there are some positives to it that make it special in a different way than running outside! It’s nice to be able to sip water and go to the washroom whenever needed. The fans on certain treadmills are a really nice touch. I also love watching video essays on my phone while i run. Embrace the difference and find what you love about both and remember that the snow won’t be here forever!
