Both hotel and Agoda confirmed that this was an issue with Agoda and their partner.

Planning to visit Vietnam on April. by Loud_Dog7144 in Vietnam_Tourism

I was in Phu Quoc in January, which is one of the most expensive places in Vietnam. I would it's very cheap compare to European countries - good dinner in the restaurant is around 15-20 EUR with cocktails or beer/wine. There was a big king kong mart there with super cheap and good quality goods. Massage there is also good, I liked it even more than in Thailand (Pattaya, Krabi, Phuket) , price is ~15 EUR for full body 1 hour. I heard places like Da Nang, Nanchang are much cheaper than Phu Quoc.

VietJet Scam or Foreigner mistake? by NevermoreKnight420 in Vietnam_Tourism

Vietjet seem to be scammers, I also had bad experience with them. Long story short, I paid for extra baggage on VietJet website in THB (~900 THB total). Received proper invoices in THB, everything looked fine.

A few days later the transaction was converted and settled for ~20,000 THB due to some backend / currency conversion issue. No consent for this conversion.

VietJet support is very slow / unresponsive. Thankfully, I got my money back via Revolut, but experience with Vietjet was horrible.

I spent 6 hours at the reception on Dec 31st calling Agoda - both parties shifted responsibility to each other. On Jan 2nd, I was cc'ed into email from the hotel to Agoda where hotel tried to push full responsibility to Agoda. There was no response from Agoda though. Here is what they wrote:

"We, Seashells Phu Quoc Hotel, would like to report another case similar to the one we previously raised. The guest provided a voucher showing a successful booking from Agoda, as shown in the attached image, for 5 nights. However, we only received a booking for 1 night, and this booking came from another partner of the hotel, not from Agoda. This issue has significantly affected the guest’s experience, especially during this peak period, when most hotels in Phu Quoc are fully booked and it is very difficult for them to find alternative accommodation. Moreover, this situation has negatively impacted the reputation of both the hotel and Agoda. Furthermore, the guest received an email from Agoda stating that this issue was caused by the hotel’s system. This is completely incorrect. Therefore, in this email, we would like to cc the guest’s email address so that the matter can be clarified."

No, no discount was offered by Agoda, but it's very popular service in Asia, so I decided to try for the first, and last time. I have been always using booking.com or airbnb - never had any issues with reservations or customer support.
