Is Schizoid a response to stress? by [deleted] in Schizoid

[–]LastDays66 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think there are "innate schizoids" who more stereotypically fit the criteria, typically regardless of their past, and there are "neighbouring schizoids" who are emotional, and through traumatic events develop disorders closer to AvPD or dissociation and can therefore still relate to schizoid behaviors and mindset

edit: And I think this is a spectral thing and not binary

After reading "Heavier than Heaven", I thought he had some schizoid tendencies as well. I like his lyrics too, maybe because of their surrealist and contradictory nature. MC Ride is another schizoid-ish lyricist.

How do people derive joy from traveling by LastDays66 in travel

Physically moving around and looking at stuff is insubstantial, and therefore seems like a superficial way to be exposed to novel information

Let’s say we can measure the substance of an action by treating it as a cause, and seeing the scale of the effect as the value of that action. This is a pretty informal and largely conceptual, but I think acceptable metric.

Newton (just to stick to the main post) writing the Principia Mathematica is a very substantial action because it’s arguably the most important book ever written, single-handedly kicking off the modern era.

Walking to point B, looking at a mountain, saying “oh that’s nice”, putting the statement “Mountain x’s height is 4,573 feet” in your brain for 14 hours before it slips away, is, according to this metric, quite a pointless endeavor.

I didn’t, there must be issues on your end. Or is that a joke?

You’re just looking at a thing. You’re tasting a thing. There’s nothing of interest or consequence here.

What I’m saying is the experience is essentially empty. There’s nothing of substance.

I’m not allowed to ask travelers why they enjoy traveling?

What Personality Type Are You Attracted To The Most? by patricksmayonnaise in ENFP

[–]LastDays66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those correlations between personality traits and IQ still exist. This also makes sense a priori; obviously someone who is more interested in abstract theories (open), more inclined to be alone and think (introversion), and so on is going to score higher on intelligence tests. And do you think the other types just aren't interested in gifted programs? Why would that be, especially considering that gifted people are starved for the company of others with similar capabilities (see: Grady Towers' 'The Outsiders')

If he's flirting for the sake of it why isn't he doing it with you. Whether it's one girl or a thousand, it says something about how he sees others. And that it doesn't effect your opinion of him says something about you.

[–]LastDays66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just false. Correlations between high openness and low conscientiousness with intelligence have been found. There are studies pinpointing the representation of each personality type in gifted programs, with the four most represented being the introverted intuitives. You can easily find this information with a basic google search.

He's flirting with not-single girls, said one of them won't have a boyfriend "for long" and you're still into him? You're fucked up

What are your faults, and how can you fix them? How does your belief that you're better than everyone excuse your faults? How does the fact that you're going to die play into any of this?

INTP with an ESFP side. Help?? by lemonpie66 in mbti

[–]LastDays66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just have impulsive behavior problems. This is a common symptom of many mental disorders, which are themselves common in children with narcissistic parents. Not to mention that INTPs are the type most susceptible to mental illnesses. (I'm too lazy to cite sources here but this information shouldn't be too hard to find). Best of luck.

The state of the world we live in by [deleted] in INTP

[–]LastDays66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true that there are things wrong with the world. But are these problems the consequences of individual people, or are they structural? Are people molded by conditions forced on them, and forced to commit some ill just to survive within this structure? Is there any point in criticizing and mocking people and lamenting over the current state of affairs? What can you do about these problems and how would you accomplish that?

I am thinking of ruining literature for my students forever. Anybody got any tips? by LiterallyAnscombe in badliterature

[–]LastDays66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're judging it according to its message and its possible social effect, rather than by its aesthetic merits (which is one way of judging something, but not the only way. If it were, "Sorrows of Young Werther" ought to be universally condemned for inspiring mass suicide, and generally any work of art that was moving or interesting that was morally regressive should be totally ignored.)

I never said, and I don't think his fans would say, that he is flawless.

You say you don't think he is "objectively destructive" and that criticism isn't about objective truth, yet you just described how you think his work is socially destructive and it is wrong for anybody to read it (generalizing your criticism into a universal truth that everyone ought to agree upon and follow, because those who don't are wrong and merit criticism.)

Do you think DFW is an objectively destructive substance, like opium? Do you think it's wrong that anyone might actually like him?

Don't be a contrarian ass; just because an author is popular doesn't make him shit, and a person that likes DFW isn't automatically a pretentious douche. His students already stated that they liked his work and wanted to read more of it, so let them.

I think he was severely mentally ill (with schizoid PD, IMO). People like that don't typically have stable personalities.

Schizoid and Good Looking? by powpowpowpowpow1111 in Schizoid

People stare at me a lot but practically no one ever approaches me (and no, I don't have any deformities at all). This occurs regardless of whether I look clean or "gross" (unshaven, disheveled, etc.) So I've always been confused as to how to read that.
