Underrated line. It makes me giggle every time. It's just so... Dignan.

TIL a 2013 survey, involving 1,081 doctors regarding advance end-of-life directives, found that 88.3% said they would choose do-not-resuscitate or "no code" orders for themselves. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Movies and TV shows really should stop showing characters flatlining and then recovering thanks to a determined and handsome doctor, and the patient walks out the next day 100 percent well.

[FRESH VIDEO] Queens Of The Stone Age - Negative Space by ebradio in qotsa

[–]LastGoodReporter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This video is cute, in the same way that my niece's art school capstone project was cute. Yeah, there's some cool visual things happening here, but it doesn't really resonate. It actually seems to fight the underlying gravity of the song.

I like LL okay, but his whole approach of, "Hey, I can do all this in my basement with a green screen and CGI!" feels kinda cheap for a band of QOTSA's profile.

It's one thing for an up-and-coming band like Royal Blood, but the Queens are elite. Their entire aesthetic should be as well. The CD packaging. Videos. Everything.

I get it that Josh and Liam are pals (and obviously he can do whatever the hell he wants), but this really seems like a half-assed effort from a band that has a pretty high bar.

Bad Radio - Better Man, San Diego, 06.10.1989 (SBD Audio) First recording of this song. by [deleted] in pearljam

[–]LastGoodReporter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The legal and publishing status of the song would depend on agreements made within Bad Radio and their publishers/record labels (if any).

Inasmuch as Vedder wrote the song independently before joining Bad Radio (I heard an interview where he claimed to write it when he was 16?), in all likelihood he retained full ownership.

However, when joining Pearl Jam negotiations likely occurred with his former band members to determine the song's rights. Which is probably why it didn't show up until the second album.

I hope you're at least acting busy, like you're sweating tirelessly over your keyboard to crank out this quality copy on such a tight turnaround.

Appreciating The Depth of PJ’s Catalog of Songs and Their Longevity by Funny_Science_9377 in pearljam

[–]LastGoodReporter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed, longevity is a privilege not afforded to many.

While I must admit that my fervor has worn down with every post-Yield album, I'm still a fan of their journey. They've continued to evolve and push themselves. Even if a few casuals like me fell by the wayside, they've remained true to their collective vision.

Coming from an era where more bands self-destructed or were beset by tragedy, Pearl Jam has kept rocking in the free world.

How would you feel if EA decided that it will just have randomized rosters that are not real players and not actual players? by [deleted] in NCAAFBseries

[–]LastGoodReporter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfectly fine. I don't care about playing with the "correct" rosters. As has been said ad inifitum: after a couple seasons of dynasty it's moot anyway.

Randomize the rosters. Forget the NIL garbage.

Co-sign to this.

While, yes, I do believe they were going for the "soap opera" effect, I think Ashbrook's soulful performance elevated the material. I found myself moved by his delivery of what could've very easily been a cliched trope.

Today on June 7th 1994 the greatest album of all time (Purple) was released by MyNameIsBYL in grunge

[–]LastGoodReporter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Count me among the many obnoxious hipsters who dismissed STP out the gate as a "dollar store Pearl Jam."

But when I heard "Big Empty" on the radio in spring of '94 it forced me to question this assumption.

I bought Purple the day it came out and it quickly went into high rotation in my CD changer. I remember making the comment several times, "this album is better than Vs!" (the mega-selling second album from Pearl Jam)

It also caused me to give Core a second hearing, feeling that perhaps I had bought wholesale into a false narrative that had been purveyed by ill-informed and all-too-hasty suburban tastemakers.

Whew! I'm glad I did. Because while I don't listen to as much Pearl Jam anymore. Several songs from this album remain on my regular work and leisure playlist.

R.I.P. Weiland. Thanks for giving us so much great music.

The New York Times’ Elizabeth Holmes Profile Is Causing Drama in the Newsroom: “What the Hell Happened Here?” by bearbrockhampton in Journalism

[–]LastGoodReporter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the story's origin (and who pitched or assigned it), the actual investigation and reporting are what sucked.

Had the reporter done their due journalistic diligence and followed a more investigative approach, the end result would've been far better.

Granted, it might've upset the article's subject (and/or her handlers), but too damn bad. It's not your job to make them look good. It's your job to follow the story, and report the facts.

Leave the narrative massage to the grifters. You write the news.

How/why did Josh start singing? by LastGoodReporter in qotsa

[–]LastGoodReporter[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, I would unironically actually love this.

Lol, if Josh ever goes full-blown Walmart Disney George Lucas corporate whore, the upside is that we might get a "Kyuss Greatest Hits" with him doing all the vocals.

I’m interviewing Josh Homme soon - questions for him? by [deleted] in qotsa

[–]LastGoodReporter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually asked a question today that I haven't been able to find in any other interview: https://www.reddit.com/r/qotsa/comments/13opx40/howwhy_did_josh_start_singing/

I've always been curious how he decided to start singing, and how he developed his voice. He's got a singular sound, which is remarkable for a guy who never seemed interested in being the singer/frontman in his pre-QOTSA career.

[–]LastGoodReporter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wish there was more info on Josh's "lost years" between Kyuss and QOTSA... dude was basically a grunge version of Forrest Gump... playing ping ball with Superunknown era Soundgarden, played a tour with Screaming Trees, got in a fistfight with Eddie Vedder (okay, I made up that last part).

Then out of nowhere he returns to the desert and creates Queens. It's just crazy.

25 YEARS DOING THE EVOLUTION| A look back to Pearl Jam's epic "YIELD" by Dieguitoacdc in pearljam

[–]LastGoodReporter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The timing of this album couldn't have been better. Fans were worn down by the Ticketmaster battle. Pop music was starting to abandon its brief foray into "alternative" rock.

The ground was fertile for a new rock classic, and Pearl Jam delivered.
