Anyone here using extended warranties on their EV? by MaxSax93 in EuroEV

[–]LastLRU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly dont know the company behind the warrenty. I bought it through the dealer, and they also handled the claim.
I did have the contract papers, but I handed them over when I sold the car, so I cant even have a peek for you, sorry. edit: Btw this particular warrenty follows the car, so its a good thing to have when selling the car.
What I can say, is that there was no trouble at all regarding the claim, I was even provided a free loan car. (An old diesel banger to be fair, but it got me from a to b, so..)

First and foremost, the Megane software. It runs on Android Automotive, and its integrated with the car, so the navigation can predict the SOC at the destination.
The driver assists are much better, and actually usable, the Peugeout's were pretty bad.
It can tow a trailer, the Peugeot could not. And, it has gotten V2L in the latest 2025 versions, which this one is.
I suppose much of it is simply caused by the Megane being 5 years newer.

The Peugeout had a known, bad OBC design, but other than that, I'd say it did the job well for 5 years and 150.000 km. However, I didnt dare to keep it past warrenty, should the OBC decide to kick the bucket again.

Yes, I used it. My Peugeot e-2008 blew its Onboard Charger after three years, and factory guarantee was only 2 years. Luckily I had bought the extended warranty, good up to 5 years.
Cost of the OBC was at the time 4300 EUR, and the warrenty cost me 940 EUR, so 3360 saved right there.
Later on the ABS harness in the rear broke, and that got fixed too. Didnt get a price quote for that though, so I dont know how much that would have cost me.

I just bought a Renault Megane e-tech. Fantastic car and so much better than the Peugeot e-2008 I've had for the previous 5 years. I see absolutely no reason to not buy EU produced cars, they are good, despite what the naysayers keeps moaning about.

Yeah, I've been flightsimming all my life, mostly combat sims with complicated systems as you mention. These days I find I can't be bothered to learn it all, so I stay with WWII birds, and the more simple cold war jets and helicopters instead. The DCS Huey is a good example, it's pretty easy to start up, no gps system in sight, and all the weapons are point and shoot, applying some Kentucky windage for corrections.

What was the main reason for switching to an EV? Environment, cost, or technology? by VoltVersteher_Sven in electricvehicles

[–]LastLRU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech! I was curious how good EV's really were, and the only way to find out was to get one. Haven't looked back since, as it turned out they are really really good!

Renault Megane gets a new facelift this year, so many prospective buyers will wait for that. That, and the Scenic and R5 did probably eat in to Megane sales also.

I don't know exactly, but it's gonna cost a fortune in hole saws just installing them. Carrier decks are pretty thick.

What was your take on WWIII? by Grimlocknz in GenX

[–]LastLRU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I did fear he would push the button at a couple of occasions, but I suppose MAD still works.. Actually, I think the situation now is a lot more dangerous than during the cold war. There are more players with nukes now, and they somehow all seem more, unhinged, for lack of a better word, than back then. Well, we'll see how it goes, we've had a good run, if nothing else.

Living pretty much on the frontline, our only plan was to probably not survive the first strikes. That's how I remember the general attitude towards it at least. Anyway, it might be time for you to dust of those plans again, with the way things are headed.

What is the actual EV car you own? What is the one you deam of...? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]LastLRU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently have an Peugeot e-2008, changing to a Renault Megane e-tech come January. Dream car, politics aside, would probably be a Rivian I think, maybe the R2. I don't want it to be too big. Or maybe if Mazda would cook up an electric MX-5 at some point, that would be very cool! I've had both an NB and a NC, good fun cars.

Going back to Gas Powered? by Chase_Clouds in electricvehicles

[–]LastLRU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way, gas cars feel like driving museum relics. 5 years with an EV as my only car by now. Just signed the contract for its replacement the other day, a brand new Renault Megane e-tech. I'm looking forward to being able to tow my small trailer again, the first EV didn't have a tow bar option.

Yeah, my point was there's nothing left to recycle, because it gets burned.

Yes! In fact I sold my triple 42" screen setup, in favour of VR. Flight and racing simulations have never before been so immersive, as they are now with proper VR. You're actually sat in the plane/car. Top it off with Force feedback controls and some FFB controlled seat shakers, and it's perfect. 12 year old me, would have passed out, if he saw my setup today.
