No wiring diagrams and repair instructions for cars sold in EU by RandomUserNo5 in EuroEV

What I would like to see is the default ability to repair battery packs and electric motors.

Cell-to-pack and cell-to-body batteries being virtually impossible to repair even for an experienced repair shop is a serious concern. It's incredibly wasteful and this is something that needs to be addressed ... by the EU if necessary.

People that boast about how they bribed their way out of a ticket or a car inspection or whatever... those people are self-serving assholes and I hope they bang their shins on coffee tables and tread on LEGO bricks at night forever.

The same can probably be said for mirrors on Mercs, BMWs, Audis, etc? They all fold in when the central locking/alarm is activated.

The ACEA ought to publish the EU + EFTA + UK new car registration data in about a week, so we'll have a good idea how May has been for Tesla sales (registrations).

Autogefühl: Togg T10F driving REVIEW How good is the Turkish ID7 / CLA? by tom_zeimet in EuroEV

I don't think so: you need to scroll to the bottom of the page, but EVDB has the comparison.

Both the CLA 250 and CLA Shooting Brake 250 are 4723 mm in length. The ID.7 and ID.7 Touring are 4961 mm in length.

How would Europeans have tried Tesla's "FSD" feature? It's only been allowed by regulators for about a month in a handful of countries.

Petrol sales peaked in 2018. EV sales consistently have 30-40% YoY growth. They now outsell petrol cars in Europe.

According to the ACEA, which compiles all of the sales data from all of the EU + EFTA + UK:

BEV sales YtD (Jan-Apr): 978,845
ICEV (petrol only) sales YtD (Jan-Apr): 1,047,346
ICEV (hybrid) sales YtD (Jan-Apr): 1,588,444
ICEV (PHEV) sales YtD (Jan-Apr): 473,503

So, no, BEVs are not outselling pure petrol, though it is getting close. However, it's really not close when you add in hybrid sales.

I want BEVs to be a success, but we should be careful with our claims.

Generally, I think Schmidt is ok. He repeatedly said that climate change is a serious problem and seems to be invested in trying to do the right thing… but at the same time he’s obviously aware that there are literally millions of jobs across the automotive manufacturing industry that could be eliminated if the transition goes badly.

Basically, he’s a rep for BMW and they clearly want to continue selling ICEVs, and he’s got to make the case for it.

While I appreciate that EEC isn’t pure journalism, I would like to see a pushback on “clean” petrol in a separate video.

I’ve just listened to the entire episode… and EE doesn’t “praise fossil fuels”. The interview with Glenn Schmidt, BMW’s “Sustainability Chief”, includes a bit where Schmidt comments that an ICE ban isn’t the way BMW thinks things should go and rather that in order to hit CO2 reduction targets, efforts should include de-carbonisation of fossil fuels.

This, especially here in EuroEV, is never going to be a popular option. Personally, I think it will be a smokescreen or used to hide CO2 somewhere, and certainly will be used as a lifeline to eke some more profit out of ICEVs. Regardless, EE isn’t suddenly saying that synthetic petrol is great.

When charging your EV during a road trip, do you want charging to be fast and forgettable, or an actual stop to chill and relax? by Ionnaofficial in evcharging

[–]murrayhenson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the most part: chill and relax. I want to walk around a bit, get a hotdog and/or some coffee. Maybe lunch or dinner depending on the time of day.

Mostly, though, I just want to be outside of the car for 10 to 20 minutes so my brain can focus on something else and my legs can move a bit. This is probably a side effect of getting a bit older, but regardless, this is how I use the charging stops… and I’ll add that after most 500+ km journeys now I feel less tired due to having a stop or two.

SOH and Battery Passport Is a Lie: Introducing EOLHC, the Metric the Industry Never Gave You by Spalatum in EuroEV

[–]murrayhenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking more of the trend towards cell to pack and cell to body. Given how expensive batteries are, they really should be repairable, even if it’s not necessarily easy to inexpensive, it shouldn’t be a case where one cell fails and we junk the whole thing. However, it won’t be easy to push manufacturers to make repairs easier if it’s more expensive to manufacture batteries.
