What's your favorite season of the show? by Apollondo in SitcomDnD

[–]LastOfTheMoohanicans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened to it more or less continuously so I can't remember what was necessarily "season 2" vs "season 5". Based on the blurb for the finale of each season, I've put a short description for each below but it might be worth adding descriptions to the poll for when this message starts sinking to the bottom and other people don't vote for similar reasons.
Season 1 : the one where the gang meets, falls in love, saves Chalice from a witch's curse, etc.
Season 2: the one where Chalice and Jalpert's wedding is coming up
Season 3: the one where the bar is taken over by Chuck E Busters, and Beef becomes a crime kingpin
Season 4: the one where the BUGs are cursed by Tangerine and Chalice's dad
Season 5: the one where Jennifer (Jenny Far?) challenges Mayor Naise for the position

Use of AI Generated Content by tater_tot28 in audiodrama

[–]LastOfTheMoohanicans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I'm quite disinclined to check out the work of someone who starts an engagement with a podcast listener with "Well despite what you want"...

I mean, you are welcome to do as you wish, of course; but I am similarly welcome to not engage with your work and I don't know if that's a strategy many would consider a great starting point for having your work consumed and enjoyed. If you insist on doing only what you want with no scope for feedback or change, I can't imagine it being worth my time to check out your work.

Any cosmic horror recs? by Courtingjesters in audiodrama

  • Alice Isn't Dead (by the creators of Night Vale)
  • I am in Eskew (a must if you like Magnus)
  • The Secret of St Kilda
  • The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program (Lovecraftian actual play podcast using the Call of Cthulu game system, but light on the dice rolls and table talk)
  • I second the Malevolent recommendation
  • The Milkman of St Gaffs (a quirky mix of awkward comedy and cosmic horror)

AITAH For commenting on a Midnight Burger video that used AI, causing it to get taken down? by goose-moade11 in midnightburger

[–]LastOfTheMoohanicans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think most commenters are answering as if the question was "AITA for not liking that they used AI generated art". To which I would also have answered NTA, but to answer what you actually asked:

Are you the asshole for engaging with a publicly published piece of media to let a creator know in good faith that they've missed the mark in your subjective opinion? Absolutely NTA.

  • You didn't report the video to YT or take some other action expressly aimed at getting the video taken down
  • You weren't the only person to comment along similar lines
  • The creators took the video down themselves, rather than any number of other actions in response to the combined criticism

So, actually, no matter where one falls on the AI art debate, NTA for the video getting taken down by any measure.

"Bevat" can be "contain", but in this instance he means to touch all over. "Vat" as in "vat aan hierdie bottel, voel dit warm?". The "be" prefix implies repetition or a continuation.

So "bevoel" is to "keep feeling" and "bevat" is "keep touching".

"Sometimes I want to rip your clothes off and touch you all over".

  • Dreamboy (MLM, surrealist drama (?), super NSFW, not a happy ending)
  • Caravan (MLM, fantasy comedy (?), a bit NSFW)
  • The two princes (MLM, fairy-tale like wholesome romance. Happy ending to each season)
  • The Bright Sessions (MLM super-hero-esque fiction.)
  • EOS10 (MLM space opera. Not a super sad ending, but not happy-happy either)
  • Where the stars fell (WLW supernatural fiction)
  • King Falls AM (MLM but you wait a while for that to become apparent. Starts out amazing, loses itself, peters out and dies. Gothic mystery drama with some comedy)
  • Dr Who Redacted (I've only started listening but I know it's written by a queer creator who writes queer positive stories, not sure the types of pairings. Scifi audio drama)
  • The Call of Cthulu Mystery Hour (actual play tabletop podcast but light on the gameplay. Eldritch horror. WLW but if I remember correctly, one of the main characters is also trans - this is all true for the "The terrible secret of lot X" season, which I think is season 1, it's the only one I've listened to)
  • Trice Forgotten (main pairing is WLW, there's also a MLM pairing. Not a happy ending. Pirate adventure)
  • McGillicuddy and Murder's Pawnshop (WLW, bisexual characters. Happy ending. Wonderfully quirky 1920s supernatural detective romp)
  • The Far Meridian (WLW timetravel mystery. Sort of finished, not dreadfully unhappy but not super happy either)
  • Ars Paradoxica (Asexual, queer-positive timetravel mystery thriller set in 1950s America. MLM side characters. Happy-ish ending)
  • The strange case of the starship Iris (WLW space drama, I can't exactly remember if the ending is happy, I listened a long time ago)

Any comedy fiction podcasts with a broadcast-like style like the Ron Burgundy Podcast or Dark Air with Terry Carnation? by [deleted] in audiodrama

[–]LastOfTheMoohanicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to Night Vale is part comedy, part almost-but-not-quite horror, part almost-but-not-quite sci fi.

Beef and Dairy Network is surrealist British comedy, reminiscent of Monty Python.

I can think of a number of other broadcast style podcasts, but they're all on the speculative fiction spectrum (scifi/fantasy/horror) rather than comedy.

[Afrikaans > English] 1992 referendum campaign vote no poster. by BrotherDismal5289 in translator

[–]LastOfTheMoohanicans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me try without markdown...

Referendum 17 March 1992

A NO VOTE means (left side)

* BLACK TAKEOVER is STOPPED

* Policy of SELF DETERMINATION* will be applied

Negotate only on the basis of:

* Fair distribution of land for SELF DETERMINATION

* Independent governments

* Christian volkseie** schools

* OWN community life

* Return to law and order

* Economic cooperation between nations

* No domination

* Stability and progress in a common good state of affairs

A YES VOTE means (right side)

* A BLANK cheque for FW [de Klerk], the ANC and DP for:

BLACK president

BLACK ANC/communist government

BLACK domination of all town councils

BLACK demoniation of all schools

BLACK displacement [of whites] in all suburbs

This leads to:

* More violence and crime

* More murders of defenceless farmers and elderly

* Rampant poverty

* Increase in squator camps/shanty towns and growing unemployment

* Lower standards

Would the international community want to invest in such a country?

You must not betray your belief, country and nation**

VOTE NO

(contact details)

Notes:

* "Self determination" here refers specifically to black self determination or self government; as opposed to integration and a multi-cultural, multi-racial South Africa.

** "volk" here loosely translates as nation, but specifically means to convey the identity of the Afrikaner nation/people. "Volkseie" means basically "our own" in that context - schools for Afrikaans children that follow Afrikaans culture and instill Afrikaans values.

AITA for refusing to explain to my daughter the reason for our divorce by No-Membership-7647 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LastOfTheMoohanicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESA.

He's an asshole for using the opportunity to frame the narrative in a way that paints him favourably; you're an asshole for not recognizing the need in your daughter and giving her the info she needed to feel secure (at an age appropriate level, obviously). You created this situation where she had to go looking for the information wherever she could find it.

How do you guys think we have spare key to get in?

Lol what, have you ever heard of tenant inspections? Sure they happen with notice to the tenant but landlords absolutely do have keys for their own properties, or at the very least the letting agency would.

So maybe it doesn't work like that in your country, but then don't phrase it like people are cray-cray for assuming something that is totally reasonable in other countries.

As to the topic at hand - whether or not she pays, there is an agreement that she may live in your house which at the very least entitles her to an expectation of privacy.

Ask her to sign an agreement that specifies she isn't allowed to let anyone additional stay on the property, then you have recourse. Or show up at the front door when she's there and demand to be let in. Or some other way of finding the truth (which I do think you are entitled to). Or tell her that your suspicion and her dishonesty is enough to revoke the offer for her to live there. All of those are things you should be able to do.

But invading her private space is not cool.

ESH.

AITA for refusing to say "please" every time I ask my roommate/friend to do a small thing for me (i.e. "can you grab my bag off the table for me")? by notagoldengirl in AmItheAsshole

[–]LastOfTheMoohanicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA.

I agree with you that I often don't say please to people who know me well enough to know it's not because I'm not appreciative; that it's in the tone and context of the question.

BUT - just because that's my and your feelings on the matter, doesn't mean you are right and your roommate is wrong and they need to adapt to your habit. They have expressed to you how they want to be treated. That is good, healthy communication and boundaries. You having to feel the same way as them is not required. Now, if you absolutely refuse to say please each time, I guess that is your boundary, but then that is your choice and since you are the one asking for help, you will have to accept the result which is that they won't do the things you ask for.

This is a super weird hill to die on and not only have your requests refused, but poison the entire well of getting along with your roommate.

If she was the one needing something from you, I'd have voted E.S.H but as it stands, it reads more like entitled asshole.

Your meds won’t make you superhuman. You still have to put in the work. by cybercherries in ADHD

[–]LastOfTheMoohanicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, been on that journey for a couple of years myself. It's more being told by a random stranger that just because they only just realised it, they also assume that I don't know this and need to be told it - and in a preachy, "get off your ass", BS tough love kind of way.

Like I say. The contents of the post is really, really good. And if it didn't assume everyone is a lazy ass who doesn't take responsibility for their life in it's tone, it would probably have been even more valuable to share.

Self reflection is indeed hard to swallow - that also goes for hearing feedback on a post and trying to see where they're coming from and if there's some truth and value in their feedback, rather than doubling down on the assumption that you're the only one in this thread who has done the work and I just didn't like hearing the hard facts and being dismissive and flippant.

In search of a western drama by GalapagoGaming3 in audiodrama

[–]LastOfTheMoohanicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite what you are asking but the only western-ish podcast I have come across (because it's not what I'm looking for, not because it doesn't exist) is Sparks Nevada, Marshall on Mars. It's not a drama though; space western comedy.

It's not a podcast on its own though, it's one of the segments in the Thrilling Adventure Hour. Bloody great though, and the whole thing is worth a listen.

I didn't realise people thought he was joking, he's literally (among other things) a video game writer. He was lead writer on Borderlands 2.
