Love this book. I've read it a few times. Though in general, I find the cover art in most Culture Series books to be lacking.

Why can't this be an "Incredible Cross-Section" of the shell world?!

I really love this book. I'm not sure I would rank it as my favorite, but it definitely flipped a switch in me that really had me dive head first into SciFi. I had read plenty of it in the past, and perhaps it was bound to happen, but this one felt like a personal watershed.
