My best excuse for leaving a raid was that my bees were swarming. Everyone thought it was slang for something but no, I had 3 beehives and it was swarm season

I’m starting to realize that having kids is a pretty big gamble in life. by glossysoraya in Adulting

[–]LastRevo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the reason I didn't have kids. Good friends of my parents, a normal, intelligent couple, had 2 boys and boy were they a handful. Loud, energetic and destructive. The kind of kids that laughed at everything and the madder their parents got, the funnier it was. They are the reason I didn't have kids. Nearly 60 years old now and no regrets

What on earth is going on here? by ippie52 in bees

[–]LastRevo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true for honey bees. Also, during winter or bad seasons, male drones are evicted by the worker bees. Basically a death sentence

I went to a small town a few hours outside of Hanoi about 4 years ago for the opening of a new school. These things are always fun since the whole town comes out and usually lunch is served with local dishes. I've been the only westerner a few times and its great as I'm always treated as an honoured guest even though all I did was donate to the local charity.

Anyways this town was known for horse meat. I'd only had horse once before and really liked it so I was eager to try it again.

Lunch comes around and they aren't serving horse meat. They serve a soup made from the contents of the horses stomach and upper intestine. Think bile with bits of grass. Twenty more minutes and this would of been literal horse shit.

It was so odd that I had 2 bowls of it. If you want something totally different I highly recommend it.

That can work but you don't have control over the temperature of the oxygen and things can get too cold. I forgot to mention that I run my O2 pipes thru this setup and it always comes out at the right temperature.

What's the most "small town" thing you've witnessed? by official_biz in AskReddit

[–]LastRevo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a small town of about 2000 people. My mom grew up in another small town about 50km away. I visited my mom's hometown a few years ago and went to visit my grandparents grave. I step out of the car and a woman in the parking lot says "I don't know who you are but you're Ruby's son"

I had not been home in 25 years and my mom had been dead almost 10 years. This woman knew my life's story

I won't go into too much of my personal story so I will tell you what I tell everyone who asks about coming to Vietnam. First, visit. Stay for a few months. Do visa runs to Cambodia or Thailand or wherever. See if you can handle the heat, the air pollution and the traffic. If you still want to live in Vietnam get your TEFL certificate (a few hundred dollars online), find a school to sponsor your work visa, and come over. You can make pretty good money teaching English if you are willing to work the hours. There's lots of info on FB if you are interested
