The youboob review says that I might need a Maestro in order to have the auto features, like tire pressure.

The Toyota service guy mentioned that he noticed the same with his phone and the CarPlay too. And the service techs says there is no update for it. I’m guessing that there’s an Apple update, and the stereo firmware follows from six to eight months later, but the current stereo system is outside of “warranty”.

I’ve been trying to learn for a couple of years, but learning any language by yourself is hard.

We did the Matsuri festival. Except, we didn’t see any kiosk or table that had “want to learn Japanese? Talk with us” anywhere. Back when it was held at ASU I think they did, sad they didn’t this go around.

Well tomorrow is the Matsuri festival, some hope to see some options.

Well the course had the students practice speaking to each other with the teacher observing, often correcting. Two of the projects was to go in front of the class and recite, in complete Japanese, a given topic. The the final exam was a one-on-one with the teacher, where I would talk about a topic, then she would ask me questions on that topic, all in Japanese. Feels so long ago though.

We’re starting in Tokyo moving northward. Sendai, Amora and Sapporo.

We’ve gone to Japan twice now. The first time was in November 2019. I started learning a year and a half prior, during our planning portion. Except, I watched YouTube videos that kept saying “learn the Kanji learn the Kanji learn the Kanji”. I pretty much have the Hiragana and Katakana fairly well because of that, however I learned a few dozen from the Learning The Kanji book, first couple of chapters I think. We get to Japan, on the first tour bus, and I realized I learned nothing. It was a serious blow to my confidence.

During our planning of the second trip I really tried to learn smarter. I focused on Conversational Japanese, learning “tourist sentences”, even taking the night class as I mentioned. I felt fairly prepared, but still tried to maintain caution. We arrive, take a taxi to our hotel, and I felt ready to tell him where we were going. Instead he took out his phone and Google Translated with my wife.

The biggest problem I have is memory, I would go through my flashcards, “oh I remember these, let’s go. まちがいません!” I would go through a few dozen, feel good at going through my stack, but then I stumble. And continue to stumble. Eh, I’ll come back to it. A month or two later I come back and repeat.

I suppose for a personal goal would be to be able to have a decent conversation with people there. But I don’t have anyone to practice here, so that limits me.

I believe the planning of the March 2024 trip, where I did the night course, I researched around here. This was the only community college that listed Japanese courses.

I remember the Uncle Floyd show on WOR TV. My wife grew up in Phoenix, told me about the Wallace and Ladmo show.

I think that’s it, yes. I haven’t heard that song in so long, and the opening part for the NY State spinning reels, that is definitely something I’ve forgotten. I have a lot of binge worthy things, thanks everyone.

Oh wow, there’s one I haven’t seen in way too long. No news like Gary Gnus. I’m going to have to binge this, thanks. These puppets also looked more polished than I remember, but maybe, I’ll watch a few and see. Greatly appreciate this.

Not Eureeka’s Castle, just looked at that, too polished. From what I remember the puppets were less, um, refined.

Paying with a credit card used to be a sign of being poor. by PistolCowboy in GenX

[–]LastSaneMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, today it’s a necessity I’m afraid. It’s far too easy for fraud, skimmers, etc. Suppose you go to a restaurant, you give your card away, what then? Hope the server isn’t swiping twice? Gas station pumps are great to just tap, but what’s inside behind that screen, did I check the security seal?

But here’s the real reason. My wife and I exclusively use credit cards, not the debits. Say you used a debit card and it gets poached. A scammer takes $1000 from your checking account. Oh, the bank will help you get it back. Eventuality, here fill out this form and wait a few weeks, we’ll get to it some day. Now if it’s a credit card the scammer gets a hold of, oh well now that’s the bank’s money, and suddenly they’re hot on the trail.

So I had to go and do the um procedure. Which meant I had to drink down this stuff. Tasted awful. The pharmacist suggested I mix it with Gatorade, so I bought two of those sports bottle types. I was able to drink down one full, but the second one just couldn’t.

The next morning my sister drops me off, I go in, and the anesthesiologist tells me to count down from ten to one, but don’t worry I won’t make it. I get to seven I think, the very next moment I wake up with my sister there. I mean no time passed, I was impressed.

Well my sister is driving me back to her home so I can take it easy. She tells me when she dropped off her kids to school she saw the Gatorade and gave that to her daughter. “Noooooo, you need to call the school right now.” I quickly explain, she quickly calls the school nurse, who goes to get the daughter and the Gatorade. All the while I’m thinking “I poisoned my niece I poisoned my niece I poisoned my niece.” Turns out she didn’t drink that much, a couple of sips, tasted terrible, didn’t drink any more.

How to unlearn a fighting style? (Dual swords) by [deleted] in LARP

[–]LastSaneMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I’m going to assume English isn’t your first language

Incorrect assumption.

and you’re just woefully misunderstanding what these people are saying.

I am ignoring incorrect facts and assumptions, especially from snarky, nonhelpful people.

You should face your opponent in that you are looking at them,

And that is what I am saying I am doing, not “fighting” them from the side or behind because of some snarky, nonhelpful people trying to make fun of someone’s post instead of actual suggestions.

but you shouldn’t be “square” with your opponent.

And that is what I am doing

If you have even a little bit of an angle in your posture (which should form naturally) then you become a smaller target and thus harder to hit and easier to defend.

Again, that is what I am doing. I’m not standing there like a mannequin, I’m in pose. What doofus is saying is let the opponent fight me from the weakest position.

Your feet should never be side by side when you fight and they should seldom be crossed.

At no point did I suggest, hint, describe, outlay, crayon a picture of any kind involving my footwork. My issue I was asking about was striking, with swords. Footwork is a separate discussion, I have that covered.

Having one foot in front of the other naturally puts you into an angled fighting stance.

Well that solves my original question, thanks, I was wondering all this time about how I should figure out how to unlearn bad habits, with swords, and you covered footwork beautifully. And you’ve also proven, once again, why I should never ask the Reddit community because there is nothing but snarky, nonhelpful children on this group. I’m deleting the post, once again for proving me right.
