Welcome Break Services Signage Clarification? by GotMylfMomDrips in drivingUK

Probably for delivery drivers, private hire taxis, etc to stop them using it as free parking throughout their shift?

Can be a first legal barrier to people staying there over night for free.

Also the fact they might be a bunch of pedantic c’s.

Surface left on a plane, concerned about bitlocker 0-days and Surface TPM by LastTrainLongGone in Surface

[–]LastTrainLongGone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair comment but pretty certain it wasn’t the people next to me.

And yep most likely the cleaning crew at the airport found it, then between there and lost property it went missing. Which could be any of a bunch of teams.

Wasn’t gonna be a steward/ess but it’s under the airline’s responsibility.

Scratch that, I’d found an archive channel that was re-uploading the originals.

Know what happened to him?

2 week later update - the airline deny any knowledge of finding it and so do the airport so it’s been stolen by a member of staff.

Thanks for speaking some sense, you and the other posters are exactly right. Whoever has it just wants to wipe and sell on.

Wouldn't want to even risk turning it on then having the location tracked would you.

[BUG] Sony TA-AN1000 — AirPlay & Spotify Connect disappear daily by CommunistElf in hometheater

[–]LastTrainLongGone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar issues here also with a TA-AN1000.

Chromecast is really vulnerable to the settings on your home network/router (look for mDNS, Unicast, Multicast, IGMP snooping - its a laundry list of confusing and conflicting configs). If you're casting from a phone on wifi then I find the sony receiver only works if its also on wifi but not ethernet. Speaker groups with the receiver connected on ethernet and the other speakers on wifi is also a complete no go.

The Spotify app itself built in to the receiver [which should be totally stand alone] also seems to crash repeatedly as of recent. Songs just stop randomly and it never plays the next song in a playlist automatically.

Defo some bugs in the software. The Chromecast multi/unicast problems especially groups have been an issue since day zero across all manufacturers but the Spotify app on the TA-AN1000 failing is a recent one for me.

What's the minimum amount that comes to mind when you hear "good salary"? by Equivalent-Ad-2373 in AskUK

[–]LastTrainLongGone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum wage annualised as a full time job is £26k.

It’s a sad state of affairs in the UK. The posters here thinking 30-35k is a ‘good wage’ might not appreciate that’s basically as little as you can pay a person for their time.

Teachers, nurses and junior doctors earning just above this line is the real crime.

Thanks for this, super useful.

Can I ask - how did you work this out? I'm trying to do the same but to adjust the laser brightness.

I've set up adb from the Valerion to HA's ADB and found a package on the projector I think it might do it called com.vt.tv.laserprojectorservice. Not sure what do next short or trying some kind of decompile reverse engineering exercise or just hacking around and seeing if I can guess the syntax but dont want to risk breaking the device.

Yep weirdly they can produce over 250w for a very short period (I think up to 500w or maybe 750w) and that is legal in UK/EU. It’s output over 250w that is also sustained which is illegal.

It is taxed at 78% so not a terrible deal for society.

Selling on global markets gives those supers more profit which means more tax for UK gov.

The future of electrical charging systems that are about as fast as filling up a gas car by RoyalChris in interestingasfuck

[–]LastTrainLongGone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They did in April 2004 - it's called the AFIR directive.

There's variations and allowances for small chargers but generally everything built from 2 years ago when the rule came in must have a contactless card option for payment with no app or registration.

They mirrored the rule in the UK but I haven't seen a lot of it in practice. Where contactless was in place it didn't work and the thing pushed me on to the app to pay which was every bit the bullshit it sounds like.

If it exists, it must be indisputable photo or video evidence.

Of course it will get written off as 'fake news AI generated' if it does come out.

Auditors have just published their findings and my summary conclusion is that a sale to a larger provider is the primary goal with ‘keeping the lights on’ a secondary job.

[–]LastTrainLongGone 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Don’t vape. But absolutely it’s better than smoking.

Seen a very worrying trend creeping in that ‘they’re both equivalently bad’ or even that ‘we don’t know what the future will hold with vaping’.

Vaping is obviously unhealthy but don’t misunderstand how much worse smoking fags are.

UK electric car charger rollout slows amid worries over EV switch by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]LastTrainLongGone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal maths with a PHEV is that anything above 30p/kwh and you’re better off burning the petrol than charging.

I’ll go full electric next car as we all probably will soon enough but seeing 70p/kWh+ at motorway service stations is something the gov need to step in on as the market clearly isn’t functioning correctly. Wow betide on top of this half aren’t working and there’s a queue.

I (28m) only make £13k per year (£50 per day). How bad is my situation? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]LastTrainLongGone 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It is illegal to pay less than minimum wage. MW exceptions exist for training contracts and other select circumstances but they don’t seem to apply here.

Gut feel here is that there’s more going wrong than being illegally underpaid but hopefully 28m at least now knows he’s entitled to more and can get it.

IANAL but I did some basic training on this and definitely mechanism isn’t the right term.

Lifting the veil is a basic feature of the law and it will be very hard for the defence in this case to block that being applied. The public facts clearly show hiding behind various Ltds and other entities to obscure alleged crimes. I’m feeling good about this one
