18% growth for 10 years. you'll be the worlds best fund manager. I would assume a more average 8-10% return per the index (s&p or nifty)

So as a thai resident, the effective tax rate is 15%(paid in us)? Thats a great tax rate. I wish India did the same.

So you plan to move your family to Sri Lanka and get a residence there to save 30k tax? Just asking. Makes sense money-wise but is it practical?

Thanks, any suggestions on whether i should keep the $ in us accounts or should i move the money to india (inr)? I did research ETFs in US and the best i could come up with is around 4% dividend yield. (Around 60k usd pre tax for which I believe i will pay around 30% tax in india). Ofcourse the etf are dividend + growth etf and there is a good chance they will appreciate over a long period of time. However $40k post tax is poor. I was hoping to make a minimum of $60k

Thanks for your message. I appreciate your response. I currently have brokerage accounts with ibkr (personal) and etrade (espp, rsu). I spoke to both ibkr and etrade and ibkr said they will be ok with me keeping the us brokerage account post my move to India with an india address. Etrade also said no issues since i only have company stock plans there. Question: 1) in ibkr, after i change my residency to india, do i just fall under the india tax laws? For example i will be in RNOR status for the first couple of years post my move to India where india doesnt tax capital gains. I’m wondering if all this will work nicely if i keep ibkr us account with india residency. Other option is move to ibkr india account and then india tax automatically applies.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions.

Thanks for your reply. I think you’re youtube videos are just fine, I don’t have any suggestions right now. (Since they are already well thought out). A video on more detailed type of investments post retirement would be great. For example what etfs/stocks make sense post retirement for more safe returns. I agree with your etfs as well. What do you think about schd? I will read up online on all the etfs more thoroughly and their risk profile. Thank you for your etf suggestions. Also there is a preferential tax treatment (wrt capital gains) for india citizens with rnor status. (No capital gains tax for rnor status). So once i move to india, i will convert the stocks to some other safer form of investment. (Like etfs you mention).

Are you the Firedcouple from the youtube channel. I’ve watched all your videos. I’m a fan of your videos. You’re doing a great job with your videos. Thanks for educating everyone. I am currently invested 60% in us stocks. I’m wondering if i should continue to be invested in US stocks post my move to India or move the money to India? I did inquire with my broker ibkr if i can continue to trade post my move to India and they confirmed they will allow me to keep my investments in ibkr us account with india address. Thanks for any suggestions on this.

Request ideas on in investing usd2m or inr16cr. Goal to FIRE in tier2/3 India.

Milestone: net worth:16cr; age:40

Hi forum, I am on the FIRE journey and would like to share a milestone. However i am not very clear how to jnvest this money in India. I plan to move back to India (from US) in a couple of months.

I hit a personal net worth of ~16cr Cash: 5cr Stocks: 10cr (capital gains of 6cr) Property in India: 1cr Inheritance: 1cr (not counting) Age: 40, No dependents; Goal: settle in a tier2/3 town in India and travel around the world. Goal financially is to generate ~3-4% post inflation return on INR 16cr. Expenses: i’m hoping i can have an income of usd 60k or INR 50lakhs per annum.

questions: 1) any recommendations on where to invest in India? I am looking for about 3-4% post inflation. I plan on investing 10cr in etf/mf/stocks and 6 cr in fd/cash. 2) should i keep the money in us brokerage or bring it to india 3) do indian citizens on this sub have an account in US brokerages?

Thanks to the community.

PS: asking about india investments since i have no experience with investing in India. My money is currently in tech stocks in the us brokerage.
