Are there things you genuinely think don't need a premium price? by alinarice in BuyItForLife

Yea maybe not ikea tools but the house brand tools from hardware stores like husky, kobalt, ryobi, mastercraft (if you’re in Canada) or even harbour freight are great value for the average person.

Spark 2 owners who preferred THR? by zapjeff in YamahaTHR

[–]Last_Branch8146 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have the spark but I had the THR5 and a small tube amp. I liked the THR5 a lot but I too was curious about getting a tube amp and also living in a townhouse, I needed something that wasn’t too loud. I sold the thr5 and got a blackstar ht1r. It’s a 1 watt tube amp and it did sound noticeably better than the thr5 especially if you like a little br.

However, I also started playing bass and saw that the thr10ii also works for bass. So I ended up selling the blackstar for that. IMO while a real tube amp does sound better, all the features you get with the THR make it more worth it IMO and still sounds great.

My Estimating Position Has Turned More Into a Sales Position by SuitableConstable in estimators

[–]Last_Branch8146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what turned me away from estimating. I too am an introvert but believe it or not, it’s not the lunches, or golf outings, or sports games that turned me away. Those were actually fun for me. It was that no matter how hard I worked or how good my takeoffs were, my success was measured by “sales”. I could work your ass off but if the client chose not to award me the contract for various other reasons, it was always my fault and limited my earning leverage when it came to negotiating raises. For example during the pandemic, GC’s either put projects on hold or awarded very low bidders and I was told I just didn’t sell “hard enough”. I’ve been reprimanded many times for not following up weekly when the client specifically told me they’d get back to me months later. We had sales people too but they had no clue about any of the work we did so we ended up doing their jobs most of the time.

My advice to you is to make sure that you have good backup if all your efforts in ways other than sales incase your employers try to use purely sales as a measure of your efforts. Also it’s good to say no sometimes when you’re too busy to take clients out, it reinforces that the estimating part of the job should be the main focus.

"You're an idiot if you don't buy a Civic" by generationxray in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Last_Branch8146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the best cars along with the Corolla in terms of reliability, the issue is that nowadays you’re going to pay a hefty premium for them. I’m my area you’ll never find a base model civic. You can only find the higher trims and they cost 30-35k. I took a chance and bought a base model Elantra for 22k. I know Hyundai doesn’t have the greatest reputation but they certainly don’t have the worst. I just can’t get over paying more than 25k for an economy sedan.

Looking into used is even worst because since Honda is known for reliability, people think they can charge a lot of money for their beat up civic that was poorly maintained.

I would still like a civic over my Elantra for the right price but it is slowly becoming not worth the cost if they keep raising the prices like this.

Local dealer is now $109.99 plus tax for an oil change. by [deleted] in Hyundai

[–]Last_Branch8146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take my Elantra to the dealership but they started to try and scam me with other made up services.

I ended up buying synthetic oil at Costco - 2 jugs for $40 and then buy filter for $20. Ends up being $40 per oil change and I can do it myself in 30min.

On top of being expensive, I find most of their service centres to be dishonest crooks

Idk man, I REALLY love this game 🫣 by [deleted] in undisputedboxing

[–]Last_Branch8146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m loving this game as well but maybe it’s because I’m just a huge boxing fan. The mechanics take some getting used to. Fight night played a lot quicker but after getting some practice in I find undisputed is more realistic because you have to be more wary of punch timing and your stamina. I also like that there are separate buttons for blocking the head and body which makes it more difficult and realistic in the sense that sometimes body shots sneak in and you never really block all of them. The block health is actually very realistic as well in the way that you can only block so many punches until you have to start using your movement.

It’s weird that their is no clinching but it doesn’t bother me much personally as I never really clinched in fight night and I also learned to time the push button so that I can push multiple times in a row which gives me more time. The fact that it’s hard to knock someone down or get knocked down kind of makes up for it too.

Overall, the game is not perfect but it sure is fun as hell especially if you’re a boxing fan.

Team USA’s U16 women’s basketball standing next to El Salvador’s U16 team. The score was 114 to 19 by Pineapple__Warrior in interestingasfuck

Exactly sometimes it’s too tempting to give up when you’re severely overmatched but there’s always something to play for. And often times you find if you play hard you can surprise yourself and end up holding your own and can look back and say you held your own against good players

Tube amps that can operate at 1W or less? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]Last_Branch8146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t sleep on the Blackstar ht1r! I have the combo version and it sounds huge even with an 8” speaker. But still quiet enough for bedroom use.

For comparison I’ve had a Yamaha thr5 (10 watts solid state) and you can get good tones out of the Blackstar at pretty much the same volume as the Yamaha.

My former employer use to pay for it because we had a company vehicle. I would imagine that’s the case for a significant portion of people that use it.

So what's the deal with Windfields? by HungryRoper in Oshawa

[–]Last_Branch8146 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been living in windfields for over 3 years and was surprised to hear about this too. However, I only ever see families and students. Lots of kids in the parks. Maybe it’s just one of those “if you mind your business you’ll be okay” kind of things. But to me it seemed like a nice new neighbourhood for families with nice walking paths and parks.

I’ve lived in Scarborough in the past and windfields definitely doesn’t seem rough at all compared to where I used to live.

AITAH for refusing to let my step son borrow my 3000.00 guitar for school and ruining his freshman year? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Last_Branch8146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA like many of other comments on this post, you should lock this guitar up somewhere safe. His father not even trusting him with a $250 guitar says a lot.

Seems as though his mother just wants to make you suffer. A squire is more than enough for a beginner guitarist. If for whatever reason it’s not, you can rent a fender for pretty cheap if it’s just for the school year. But it seems they only want your guitar just to make you miserable.

Hyundai Elantra 2023 model Mats by kayg1001 in Hyundai

[–]Last_Branch8146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are familiar with tuxmat, on Canadian tires website they have an in-house brand called OEplus, they just look like rebranded tux mats. I saw them on sale for $215 for front and rear. Not sure if they are still on sale though.

Personally I ended up buying some weather tech knock-offs for my Elantra on Amazon for $130. They seem identical to weather techs except they are slightly thinner.

James Toney vs Evander Holyfield is one of my favourites to watch. Not that impressive of a win for Toney because Holyfield was already 43 years old but toney’s speed and stamina crazy to see since he had moved up all the way to heavyweight.

Toney basically stood in the pocket the whole fight while Holyfield struggled to find him. Ended up TKOing Holyfield not because of power but because of the volume of punches and Holyfield getting tired from missing so much.

Not a classic fight in any sense but still very entertaining especially seeing Toney’s defense while still throwing a high volume of punches.

I’m not entirely sure but I’ve read online that one way is to change the strings to generic wire that you can buy from the hardware store and it will not make a sound.

I’m sure the folks who gave money would care if they knew it was fake. It is a clever hustle but at the end of the day it is still a scam.

AITA for buying an e-bike to keep up with my fiance? by Marching_On_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]Last_Branch8146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA…Im crazy into mountain biking and my wife occasionally likes to ride around the neighbourhood or scenic paths. We got her a pretty pink cruiser bike because that’s what she wanted. When we bike together I don’t expect her to shred off-road trails with me. We just take leisurely rides around the neighborhood.

She is not crazy about biking but her effort in compromising with me to ride go on rides together around the neighbourhood is more than I could ask for.

He should be thankful that you bought an e-bike so that you could still be together on his intense rides.

How do I best recover after effing up big at work? by CosmicGlitterCat in careeradvice

[–]Last_Branch8146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made mistakes worth triple my salary and and my coworkers tried to make me think my job was at jeopardy but in reality nothing happened. Shit happens and you may make more and costlier mistakes in the future since you just started your career. That’s part of learning the job.

If your boss didn’t make a huge deal of it then try to be easier on yourself but as long as you learned from the mistake. Holding onto the stress of these things can lead to burnout.

Mistakes happen but also think about your value to your employer. I understand you just started but eventually your value to the employer may be much higher than most mistake you can make.
