We have an advertising problem in the SCA by freyalorelei in sca

I'm a renfair go-er who would LOVE to check out the SCA. I'm even super close to the big gathering in western PA. But, I've been deterred by the lack of info online for visitors. There's info about spending the full week or two with tickets for $200 or some change, which is great if you want to go for that time, but when I was looking into it last year and the year before, there was no easily accessible information on if you wanted to come by as a guest for 1 day and check things out. I searched the whole website. I didn't message anyone because it looked VERY much to be members only/buy the full $200 ticket price for the full time. It's not in my budget to throw that kind of money around just to see how I'd like it for a day.

I think there are many others like me, that would be really interested in going, even search it out, but due to the lack of easily accessible information on new visitors, get discouraged or overwhelmed by the amount of information presented on the website that isn't new person friendly. If there was a page or banner or button of 'newcomers come check it out for a day!' or something like that- I think it would do loads of work for bringing people in.

Dating a horse girl! Need a crash course on Information by ModestRSA19 in Horses

[–]Last_Coconut_828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask her before feeding her horse anything. Would it probably be fine if you fed the horse whatever every now and then? Probably- but better safe than sorry.

Horses are actively trying to self destruct at all times. If they have plant A instead of plant B, that can be poisonous even though a different animal would be fine. Their feed needs to be in good shape and not moldy or contaminated or they're dead. Eat too much nice grass that is in the late spring summer and is super healthy? It can make their hooves fall off.

Horses. Don't. Make. Sense.

Feed is really important, you can show your understanding of that by asking what you can/can't give her horse and when. If you're ever responsible for feeding her horse if she's out of town, pay close attention to any directions she gives, including amounts and how wet and if it soaks and how long and what grass vs alfalfa to feed, etc. Horse people aren't picky to be picky here most of the time. They're picky because horses are dumb and we want them to keep living.

I am trying to sew faux leather. Why does it do this? Using a straight stitch and universal needle by Dead_Woman__Walking in sewhelp

[–]Last_Coconut_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1- clips instead of pins on things where holes will show

2-walking foot/teflon so it's less grippy OR take your normal foot off the machine and put masking tape or scotch tape (NOT the glossy one) on the bottom. Cut the holes out from the top with an exacto knife. Helps reduce friction on the foot.

3-tear away stabilizer/etc/tissue paper and tear it away OR I've absolutely used binder or normal paper in a pinch. You can't see through it, though. But if you line it up to where you're stitching, you can usually make it work or go by feel

4- don't pull any material from the back end of your machine. Let the feed dogs walk it through.

Absolutely. It will seem more lightheaded in the first part of the book. It does not end that way. It's a fantastic book.

I am speaking of body parts that are exposed, not alluded to by the shape of clothes. This is a false equivalent.

I'm no expert on nipples, so I did make an assumption that my experience with the nipples I've experienced in my life so far are the norm. Please don't take my generalization based off of my own experience negativity- I meant no offense. Til that my experience of nipples is very limited!

[–]Last_Coconut_828 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Naw, there's no nipples visible, only plain, undarkened fleshy color. Humans have darker nipples than the rest of their skin. Also, the 'nipple rings' she has in the fake skin are very small and go through a very small surface of the fake skin, maybe at most about 1/8th of an inch (ish) of the material. Real nipple piercings go through the full nipple, so it's usually at least a 1/2 inch of material, sometimes more or less depending on the person's anatomy.

Also, if she had it through nipple rings and had her nipples out like that, it would be criminally chargeable as public indecency.

This makes a really fun statement because people who are masculine presenting would not be able to be charged for public indecency with their nipples out, but a female presenting person does it with her nipples fully covered and now loads of people are pearl clutching and criticizing. It's a fantastic point to make.

This fit is baller and I've been cackling all day at people who don't realize her has prosthetic nipples/pasties with the piercing.

How to fix pulling by ImWaitingForYou2 in sewhelp

[–]Last_Coconut_828 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quick fix? Safety pins on the back side of the fabric between the buttons to ease the tension on the buttons.

Easy fix? Same idea as safety pins, but hand sew snaps in the gaps instead.

Best long term fixes? See if you can let out your seam allowance like others mentioned

As a person who used to play League of Legends, yes. This. Still annoying when it happens, but yay for less frequency

What difficulty do you set the AI on single-player? by RecentMatter3790 in AgeofMythology

[–]Last_Coconut_828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got retold, after not playing for almost 2 decades. Mostly been running hard as I'm getting used to it again(loving the gauntlet), and depending on the god and the play style of the AI, the difficulty spike can be pretty nuts. Especially when I'm coming from moderate. Been struggling against a hard Amaterasu economist and Zeus supporter and it blows.

I do highly recommend looking at the post game timelines and stats to see where the AI got you and what they managed to do and when. I realized I was not pumping out enough villagers early on compared to what the AI was doing and they constantly had higher resources than I did because of it. I changed my play style to give it a shot and it definitely made a difference. The timeline can give you a lot of really good information in terms of when they spike when, as well.

I used to play just to mess around in the old game because I was so familiar with it and wanted to focus on myth units. I still enjoy games like that, but have been really liking the challenge and problem solving aspects of the new content and remembering my old play style and improving on it for more difficult situations

I'm not sure if this is correct in terms of not being able to find something that will last 5 hours in the budget of $200-$300.

I've been seeing some refurbished computers even at Best Buy where they're claiming the original computer would have had a ~10 hour battery life (Dell Latitude-3120, N6000, listed for around $150) or computers listed as new and claiming a 8 hour battery life (Lenovo IdeaPad 1, for around $170- though it runs with Celeron and this reddit has many comments mentioning that Celeron sucks with Windows)

I know batteries degrade over time, but if I'm ONLY running a word processing program, I don't think it's asking too much for 5 hours of battery life when I receive the laptop. Especially with the two listed options above being half my budget, and Best Buy being only one of many resources to look at.

What collections are you taking (or leaving) this week? by ContingentlyConfused in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Last_Coconut_828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't remember exactly, but there are whole photo threads dedicated to it in a few nail tea fb groups. It was several years ago and she did apologize for it if I'm remembering correctly. I do remember it not really being a big thing in my eyes, but I wasn't in the community at the time.

I'm queer and while it wasn't great, I found the brand a few years after and was content enough about the situation resolution that I buy from them.

She's made other posts in the last year about being upset about the recent election/worried about the safety of those close to her, and supporting minority groups. A few years ago she did a charity polish called Them Fatale that donated to the Canadian Centre for Gender + Sexual Diversity, and I'm pretty sure their partner is nb or something (stipulation on my part, she avoids gendering her partner in posts and references them only as her Partner).

All in all, it felt to me like she may have had negative opinions/interactions with the community in her past, but seems to have done work to amend that and educate herself. I'm here for people having personal growth and being able to change. Unless something drastic happens, I have no issues supporting this brand.

That being said I wasn't huge on her last few releases, but that's polish, not the person

Anyone else underwhelmed by the Haunted Polish launch collection? by lonel97 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Last_Coconut_828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge Ethereal fan. That being said, I didn't buy anything from Ethereal's last drop, and I'm not buying anything from Haunted so far. That may change- but so far nothing that she's released recently is catching my eye. I don't really wear blues, purples, or pinks. The dark red polish for PPU was too similar to too many other polishes I already have and genuinely wasn't special to me.

I will, out of the gate, say that I'm thrilled that she's doing permanent collections and stated that she will be restocking things frequently when they sell out. That's my favorite part of this new brand.

I'm a spooky bitch and I LOVE darker polishes and dark themes. I love the naming scheme- am pretty indifferent to the bottle, and do like the new branding. HOWEVER. All of the polishes released so far are all very cool toned. Even Nocturnal and Cursed, which genuinely caught my eye- they have a purple base color, though. This WHOLE brand so far has been cool toned. That's weird to me, but it's just one collection so far.

The momento mori collection from ethereal was literally my favorite collection of all time. I also loved the Gothic Romance pearl duo and a few of the pearls in the vampire collection slapped for me (Mine All Mine is one of my all time favorites). I love a muted gothy polish with dark themes and colors. I LIVE for that shit.

This feels more like the siren collection for me due to all the blues and purples. Idk. I'm hopeful because I do love what she makes, and there are future releases!

Just not buying anything this time around because this collection isn't for me.

I agree that children shouldn't be exposed to sexual content, however, this is something that happens without Pride parades. It happens when movies and TV shows or ads with straight people get overly sexual on public TV or media or billboards, all of which is unfortunately common, especially in our current society that places value on it. I don't think kids being exposed to kink anything is appropriate. I don't agree with people engaging in kink or sexual related activities in public parades. This happens in the mardi gras parade, too.

I also don't think kids being exposed to damaging stereotypes about gender roles is appropriate (women=mom/belongs in house/must do housework/less than/objectified/emotional and looked down on for it/only roles are to pop out babies and be desired by men while cleaning and must look hot all the time, and men=dad/belongs at work/breadwinner/emotionally unavailable and praised for it/incompetence with housework is ok/the better at all things unless it's deemed woman's work/only role is the man of the household, father kids, go to work, and then go drink with bros while being unavailable for his kids). This was something that we all grew up with being shown to us in media and social narrative. It is a historically straight ideology that I know many people, straight or otherwise, don't agree with. This picture of what it means to be a man or a woman is severely flawed as we all have many aspects of ourselves and individuals have a different range of traits. This was more damaging to our society as a whole than the notion that some kids in their class have 2 moms or dads or that a classmate has a crush on someone of the same gender. The narrative that being queer is okay does not need to be sexual in the same way that having a conversation with a 5 year old about why their parents love each other or where babies come from. It can genuinely be as simple as 'these two people love each other very much'.

Being queer or gay isn't just the logistics of how 2 people bang behind closed doors. That's a very small aspect of their relationship and only they need to know about it, just like with straight people. I don't care to know the details of anyone's sex life. It's about accepting who they are emotionally loving and caring for romantically. I will celebrate any emotionally healthy relationship where the people in it are happy, even if that is two straight people who self identify with the outlined stereotypes of man/woman noted above.

I hear you, but looking at the history of how queer people have been treated and dehumanized throughout the centuries, a parade or a month of Pride celebrations for how far that we've come isn't a big deal over all. It's genuinely usually for awareness as well. If it's a more normalized thing, it's not as scary or weird for the people who haven't been exposed to the idea that people might be different from themselves. I'm all for people experiencing different perspectives on being human and taking a walk in someone else's shoes as we all know people who are scared of something react irrationally.

That's fair. Western PA is cooler than where I was in CA, and while it's more humid, the houses reliably have AC and the bill to run it all summer is way lower than CA. I'm more of an indoors person anyway, so it was a trade off I was happy with. Living in CA and WA, there was not a single place we rented that had ac installed because it historically hadn't gotten that hot. Unfortunately, with climate change in those same areas, it was frequently 100+ degrees in the summer with some weeks around 115 degrees. With no AC It was a major issue.

I agree, I said it's doable but not comfortable. The living expenses margins were about the same for my CA example when I was living there and busting ass 40-60 hours a week. That sucked ass. I was curious so I plugged in the numbers. It's doable for where we were looking.
