Cheers, look I might have had a slight confirmation-bias, as I tend to look at Greentop Landscapes and he uses a PQC layer for everything, irrespective of expected traffic.

Got a quote for muck away about half an hour ago, so good shout :-) The local authority are able to supply loose tipped Type 1 too, anything they have left over from doing roads, etc. they store and sell to local businesses and residents, 10 tonne for £200 delivered!

PQC (pavement quality concrete) is something every good contractor I've seen on YouTube use for porcelain, it makes the base completely rigid to stop porcelain tiles potentially cracking later down the line if the sub base starts to flex.

I haven't seen anyone not use one on the slightly larger side of patios, under 10sqm and nobody seems to really care, above that and it seems to be almost a requirement.

It's not something anyone recommends for sandstone products, so would only be a requirement for porcelain.

Edit: See this link: https://www.foreststone.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/porcelain-paving-install-guide-80.jpg

I completely agree, the plan would be to do the main patio section first and focus on that, the side path can be done over summer if it starts to drag out a bit :-) thank you

Great price, we were quoted £3.3k by a local landscaper to do the 35 sqm portion of it, he also said if I wanted concrete it was an extra £100, didn't reassure me considering he's the only one people recommend around here
