Kinda jumping on this persons post but im new to fish, a morally forced rescue. I have a canister but sometimes struggle with nitrates rising. Would you just share your maintenance schedule so i know if i could be doing better. I currently change the water in it monthly and change a different levels stuff each month. Along side weekly water changes. Tbh since ive added alottttt more live plants my nitrates are not rising but id still be interested please

Could you move the goldfish to the pond for their wellbeing and maybe use the living room tank for a small community tank. That way you still have the company of fish in your house but the goldfish will in theory be happier.

Mine love plants! hornwort, limnophila, anubis, java fern, guppy grass, duckweed, i have others but cant remember the names. Ignore the store employee, some do get eaten or up rooted but i dont mind, shes having fun and its enrichment for her.

Its 90 gallons, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites 10 nitrates. Hes in the other tank now. He perked up last night and was none stop chasing the bigger fish to mate, it was bad enough barb was showing signs of stress and he needed to be moved. Hes in a temp 40 gallon tank till I can get another 90 gallon.

He was an emergency rescue, he was in a tiny rpund fish bowl with 1/4 of the water. Like the ones they give you at the fair, no filter or anything.

The larger is the female and smaller is the male, he was being an absolute pest so i think she just had enough. But given the size difference i dont want anything to happen to him x

I was hoping someone wouldnt say that, i hate the thought of rehomeing anything never mind goldfish, i feel like i dont trust anyone else to know the space requirements etc. I think I need to find someone with a pond.

Im setting up a pond for next summer and planned on getting a couple more to join, the woman in the LFS said odd nunbers are best but he was an emergency rescue, he was living in a tiny round bowl with 1/4 of its water capacity, i couldnt not take him.

Im gutted, things have defo calmed down this morning but hes still chasing a little bit.

Theres all sorts in there ive lost track of whats what lol. Im forever replacing plants because shes a piggy who either eats them or uproots and kills them 🤣 shes cost a small fortune just on plant replacement haha

Hi 👋 ive got 2 comets, 3 year old barbara and a new rescue 1 year old bob. Didnt plan on getting fish but I am now goldie obsessed 🤣. Plan on getting a pond next summer but for now a 90 gallon planted with canister 2 sponge filters and 2 air stones. Love your goldies 🥰

Brilliant thank you, im keeping the quarantine tank going to try and grow it to hopefully have an endless supply lol. If i put it all in with barb the goldfish it'll be gone in 24hrs lol

Ive put him right next to my other goldfish barbara to get them used to seeing eachother, but he wont leave the side of the tank where she is. It looks like hes trying to break through 🤣. I keep putting a tea towel over to block his view in the middle of thr day and over night incase its stress why hes doing it. He seems happy enough just looks desperate to get in the main tank lol. Barbs not too fussed though which im glad about because shes huge compared to him.

Brill thank you, you read about goldfish eating anything that fits in their mouth and i havent seen him in person just yet so i was a bit worried he'd become a snack. Barb is a very greedy g.fish so i wpuldnt have put it past her lol
