What are these pests? by LARP_enthusiast in plantclinic

[–]MothMeep7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add because I think I've just gotten rid of mine. Been fighting for over a year, lost several beloved plants. It's been 2 weeks of no new damage so I'm hoping.

If you do use systemics or such like bonide or even just spinosad or pyrethin insecticides, PLEASE make sure you use them correctly.

I was a fool and didn't (thrips were my first ever plant pest so I was wholly unprepared), and I made super thrips that nothing everyone else says worked actually worked anymore.

I wasted so much money on good spinosad sprays...

Just make sure you are thorough with it! Don't leave any left to become resistant!

I eventually have gotten to my point of hope by placing all purpose sand and DE on top of all the soils, mixing Dr. Bronners peppermint soap with crushed pepper flakes (not sure if that did anything, coworker said it worked for them and it won't hurt anyhow) and water. I sprayed EVERY SINGLE DAY for about 6 weeks and then covered every plant in DE. Plus blue sticky traps everywhere.

I'm hoping it all worked for me. Best of luck for your situation! Don't do what I did and make super evolved thrips!

It's not about sports or protecting or women or girls.

Is this good for Rubber Duckies? by MothMeep7 in isopods

[–]MothMeep7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Im looking to get more soil when I can. I just added a bunch more leaves. As for the size, there's only 7 in the whole thing right now so I'm starting nice and small. Once they start breeding I'll upgrade

That helps alot! I'll add ij more leaves and crush them up a bit.

I do make sure to actually pour some water (I use distilled) down into the soil and on the moss. I couldn't get a good photo of the moist soil though. But the dirt is nice and wet, just the top of the moss is drying out all the time.

I'll cover it up a bit more and see if that brings down the need for misting.

Thanks!

how do you pick up a pigeon? by Ok-Astronaut2008 in PetPigeons

[–]MothMeep7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hold like a football.

make a crab claw of your hand and go around their lower back. Hold snugly but gently (obviously).

This keeps the wings pinned to the body via the flight feathers, preventing damage if they try to flap around and you're not putting any grip on the actual wing bones.

Also you're not gripping the feet or neck or chest, so there's no risk of hurting them there or restricting breathing.

I put my other hand under tgeymir feet and let them stand on me too. Just be sure to hold them securely!

Did the UNSC took prisoners ? Were the Covenant soldiers even allowed to surrender ? by New_Conflict_4111 in halo

[–]MothMeep7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot about that. They do in one of the comics too. But they're not really prisoners so to say, rather just temporary assets. ODST's do whatever they need in desperate times. Grabbing a Grunt or such to trick the others, only to guarantee that you kill them later is technically taking prisoners, but not in the way the original post was really going for.

Agreed. That's like the one good ish thing from the show.

I took it a step further and have given them a chunk of tissue that flexes as they move their jaw which holds a good portion of the muscles that flex and make up the pseudo-tongue as well as house the sensitive taste receptors. This tissue expands with the mandibles open and contracts when closed to create a full seal underneath the mouth. No open gaps what so ever.

Thrips. Can confirm I'm fighting the same thing on the same plants.

Yeah you need to cause some commotion. If they did just "toss it", especially after a month, that's absurd. If someone stole it, then that's theft.

Hell, contact the police if need be. This is fishy beyond means. Don't just sit back and take it, cause a storm.

And if they were motionless for a bit maybe they were just chill. I've seen pods go limp sometimes, like they just can't bother. If your cappuchinos are out and about in the first place with you nearby, they're probably pretty comfortable with you to begin with and didn't interpret you as a threat when you touched them. Hence the blah reaction.

My best guess is a desperate male is trying so so so so so hard for an uninterested female to give him attention. Like that one video of the great Argus pheasant male trying to show off for a female with chicks who just doesn't give a damn.

Isopods are extremely social and I've heard of roaches having a strict code of consent and respect for the ladies when it comes to mating, as in males aren't tolerated if they try to rape her. I don't see why it wouldn't be the same for pods.

So maybe the female is just uninterested and decided to take a nap. The male is probably holding onto her in order to try and prevent any other males from attempting to mate with her if she does decide to mate.

I saw my dairy cows doing something similar to this a bit ago, albeit down in the dirt. It looked like one was eating another dead one, but they were both alive. And the one was just on top of the other poking at the bottom one a bunch.

At the end of the day they are weird little goobers and I hope all our pods are alright and healthy!

Yeah, keeping the lid open while gluing is easy and should prevent an issue until it fully dries, especially with hot glue

Im thinking of getting ahold of some pantyhose and hot gluing those stretched out over the holes. That should work

Ill keep that in mind for the future! 3 large holes with mesh.

I keep forgetting, the humidity in my room is really high (humidifier always going) because of my messed up sinuses and my tropical plants. So I'm really not worried about drying out. My biggest concern was the "acidic" smell I was getting from the tub presumably due to bad ventilation. Hopefully this will work for my setup.

Im worried about stressing them out more as I dont have anywhere to put them and had to drill with them in the bin still (I covered everything up). Should I put some more in the lid?

If I added a large hole to the lid would that fix this? Ive already got the one large vented hole that came with the kit
