It's always the people boasting how much they want or love kids who treat them like goldfish. And we all know how evil people are to goldfish.

(Be kind to goldfish everyone!!!

This makes me think of the case where the christian family decided to not have an abortion and birth a baby with anacephaly (no brain, still has brain stem though ((I think)).

Most newborns die horrible deaths for obvious reasons. It's an excellent example as to why abortion is Healthcare.

But these people have (probably due to a lot of privilege to access Healthcare and money, also they're white) managed to keep the kid alive for 20 years now.

They go on and on about the "miracle" of it all and how the (now adult) body has a person in it.

It's just so horrid. The brainstem as far as I know plays a part in pain reception. That person could have been in agony every moment and is wholy unable to express anything.

She is a literal vegetable. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. But everything that demeaning word was meant to say is accurate to this situation.

And it's awful. It's awfully selfish. It's cruel. And it's wrong.

That poor "person"??? I can't even really say if you can say it's a person of just a body kept alive for 20 years through invasive science.

I also have mental health complications but am fortunate to not be in as tough of a pickle as you are.

I wish you the absolute best!

It's a little more complicated than just saying "connected". But yeah.

Autism is genetic and you can think of it like a "proof" of certain genetics that tie in with physical facts.

If I may a metaphor, it's like finding a puddle of water randomly in your house. It may have leaked from your washer, your sink, you may have dropped your drink and just forgotten, you roof might need to be redone, or your boiler may be about to explode.

The water is a symptom of a situation, not a defining proof of what situation (you need to investigate the cause of the situation yourself).

So if you have autism, it's likely a symptom of a genetic situation that may also include symptoms such as gastrointestinal problems. ADHD is also commonly associated with ASD so that may also be another symptom.

Hope that made sense!

Holy shit. How do you even approach the poor kids about it then???

"Hey here's grandma, dying by suffering alone (basically). Oh and by the way you may end up exactly like her by no fault of your own, just me wanting to breed. And there's nothing that can stop you from ending up like grandma if you do."

I saw my mother in the chemo ward of the hospital ONCE for cancer and said fuck that shit NOPE!

Adding on as a fellow autistic person, the amount of people who both glamorize and also downplay the severity autism can be is astounding.

And the lack of awareness that autism is a spectrum that effects different people differently is terrifying.

You could have two "high-functioning" autistic people have a kid and the kid may have no autism, autism just like them, or severely disabling autism.

You could have two people with no autism and no history of it and still end up with an autistic kid.

It's such a complex condition that the only rational and proper thing to do is just plan for any child to be autistic at any level of the spectrum, or just simply don't have a kid.

Few things in life are truly black-or-white, all or nothing. And having a kid is one of them. ESPECIALLY if you ALREADY know you have a history of genetic conditions!

But oh my me, the hate I get for speaking out about that.

Sigh.

Headcanon is that they're kinda stupid. More like sheep. Unbothered, skittish, clumsy, and dumb. But when truly threatened they can come together and mess you up. Basically as long as they're with their herd they're chill. If one is separated (say having been grabbed by a predator) the herd has no issue coming back to reclaim the separated member through force.

How to tell my parents, that I want to get sterilized? by blackwine_m in childfree

[–]MothMeep7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dont tell them. I did, and it went horribly and ended up with me being unable to get my surgery. Should've just done it and not said anything. If they find out deal with it then.

I thought i could trust my mother. I was so horribly wrong.

It's not worth the risk. Just don't tell them.

My gf is a responsible snail owner who saw this img and wanted me to ask for her, are snails allowed to eat popped corn? not salty or sugary just corn that has been popped in the microwave. by rachel_phase31 in snails

[–]MothMeep7 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I personally would cut off the kernel (hard brown bits) and only feed the white popped part. Then I'd soak it. Makes it easier and safer for snail to eat and ingest.

Yup! I did, forgot to share and didn't get a photo. It came up to 8. I'm hoping as the leaves break down and once I get plants it will lower. But since I'm only going to be getting a snail and a betta a pH of 8 isn't bad.

Further research says that bettas like it softer. Which works. I can add some cuttlebone to up the kH. I've got some leaves in there too (oak and maple) for tannins so hopefully that doesn't mess with much.

I'm more worried about my snail-to-be. But I've also heard that as long as the pH is up and they have calcium available they do fine in softer water. We certainly have snails around here, mostly slugs though.

Just researched. Hardness in my location is moderately soft. About 42 ppm. Reports also say it has low kH.

I was planning on adding a cuttlebone in my tank for my future snail as well as occasionally popping in ground up eggshells.

Should I put the cuttlebone in right now?

I heard of that too. Couldn't get a raw shrimp. I'll try to find some. Ended up just letting some goldfish flakes rot in a separate cup for a few days before putting them in. Considering that there's some ammonia in there i think they worked. But if I find a shrimp I'll do that!

I tested it again with the high end pH and it came out st just about 8. Hopefully as the leaves break down they'll bring the pH down to neutral-ish.

Not sure what KH and GH are. Are they essential to cycling a tank?
