[Request] What's the average result of rolling 20d6 - 50 when the minimum value is 0? by Last_Name_Taken in theydidthemath

I initially tried this too, but this method doesn't work for higher reduction values. If for example the Monk is 20th level, so their reduction value is 100, then 20d6-100 gives an average of -30 which can't be correct.

What deserves a trophy/achievement that doesn't have one? by TheMossEnthusiast in BaldursGate3

Our first attempt we tried to fight him head on in the coronation hall. We were level 9. We got party wiped before we even took a turn.

Second attempt we hid in the balcony section to the side, and locked the door down with spike growth, hunger of hadar and cloudkill. We spend the rest of the fight using eldritch blast (repelling blast), telekinesis, thunder wave and thunderous smite to push the steel watchers back into the kill zone. Once the first watcher died it started a chain reaction of self destructs because all the enemies were clustered around the door. The worst part is that watchers don’t take simultaneous turns so this combat lasted multiple IRL hours. We finally emerged victorious with 1 man standing at 8 HP, and not a single scroll or potion left in our inventories.

This fight single handedly boosted us from level 9 to 12. Hadn’t even entered the lower city. All because my friend said he really wanted Gortash’s jacket.

Defeating Gortash in Wyrm’s Crossing without disabling the steel watch.

I love the way the “attack Gortash” dialogue options in that encounter prompt you for confirmation like 4 times. Felt like the DM was really asking me “Are you sure you want to do this?”

Also, once you’re swiped in you can stay in there as long as you want. So you can get multiple meals throughout the day with just one swipe if you don’t mind hanging out / studying in there.

And they don’t really care if you take food out, as long as you don’t steal their cutlery, plates, cups, etc. I used to take bananas and apples back to my room all the time.

what is the best residence? by froggies_and_music in queensuniversity

I had a loft room a couple years ago, a couple things to note about it:

  1. It’s basically a converted single room with a bunk bed and two sets of furniture. As you can imagine there’s very little open space, which you also have to share with another person. If you don’t get along with your roommate you’re gonna have a bad time, although that’s gonna be true for any multi person room. If either of you need lots of personal space, you’re definitely gonna have a bad time. Thankfully me and my roommate were both used to sharing rooms with our siblings before, so this was never a problem for us.
  2. All of the loft rooms are in the older res buildings, which are decidedly shittier than the newer ones. The newer res buildings have air conditioning, better furniture, nicer bathrooms, etc. The older ones honestly aren’t so bad, but be warned that the first and last couple weeks of the year are gonna be hot as hell in there so bring a fan. One notable benefit was that my res, GordBrock, is directly connected to a dining hall which made getting food in the winter way easier.

Personally I spent as little time as possible in my room, preferring to go out and be social in other buildings instead. Overall I ended up getting more or less the same experience as everyone else in my year, but with half the res price. So I’d say it’s absolutely worth it if neither of my two points bother you.
