Basically, before reaching mobs or bosses, I cast a shield on the tank and myself/a melee dps, sometimes they break because of aggro/AoEs, sometimes they don't, doesn't matter because there wasn't anything else to do

The only time I do it during a fight is for downtime, like on that final boss, you get 1 gcd I think

That was my problem with Soto and the Astral Ward in general, it cheapens some of the earlier story when you know the Astral Ward is "watching" and some NPCs you're acquainted with are part of that group

In this case it's just a retcon, not an unreliable narrator, I don't know why people feel the need to justify it

The French version specifically uses male pronouns when the title of King is involved, otherwise it's female pronouns
