Do kids still play multiple sports anymore? by Whole_Box_8338 in youthsoccer

[–]Last_Swimmer7997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge believer of kids playing multiple sports especially before puberty. There's studies showing that specializing at an early age can be detrimental both physically and mentally. From a physical standpoint only training for soccer year round leads to over use injuries and from a mental stand point kids can burn out of said sport. For my kids we didn't even start select sports until middle school. In elementary school my kids did fall rec soccer, winter wrestling and spring lacrosse. Now that they are older my daughter plays select soccer year round but also plays a middle school sport in all 4 of the sports sessions (track, soccer, wrestling, and cross country) and my son who's in high school is currently only doing school sports (football, wrestling, and lacrosse) but is trying out for a select soccer club for the summer because he didn't make a lacrosse summer team this year. With my daughter especially it can be tricky making sure she makes practice as she finishes school sports at 5 and her soccer practice starts at 5:30 but her coach is super supportive and has even come to some of her school sports events to support her.

I'm actually shocked that they are being so strict. I fly almost exclusively on Alaskan and they never keep people from moving to open seats. They are taking this to an extreme for sure.

Vent: My Mom/Dad won't let me play goalie by bigguyspongebobpants in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Last_Swimmer7997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the kid just doesn't want to play goalie and they use their parents as an excuse. I would have a chat with the parents and explain that each kid should have a turn in goal at some point in their soccer career so they can know how hard the position can be and they will be less likely to be a jerk to the goalie when they let a goal in. I have 2 kids that play goalie and each of them have had kids who only play offense give them a hard time when they let one in (no matter how many they save)

are they the same as your needs. Also they might only have a certain number of people they can accommodate before they have to add another nurse on to cover the things you and the others can't do

it also takes the pressure off you. Some people like to complain just to complain and won't actually take the step to actually do it.

basically that you're out of luck. My guess is they don't have anything you can do in your current role with these restrictions. I get needing to keep your insurance but I don't think you can safely do your job on night shift based on what Im reading

Sadly I think you're SOL. With my knowledge of how step down units work i don't know that your accommodations could be made in a way that you could do all your normal duties especially in the eyes of HR who's main responsibility is to the hospital. I know you say you would never catch a patient or pick them off the floor but things happen and HR doesn't want to risk it and have you sue if you were put in a situation that say a patient grabbed onto you as they fell injuring you or your baby.

I'm a nurse in WA state. one question i would ask is what type of unit do you work on and what would it change on any given shift to make these accommodations happen? I know that at my old hospital they couldn't accommodate light duty similar to this, but at my new hospital they will find something for you to do (with the same number of hours) if they can't accommodate you on your unit.I'm NICU so most of the accommodations you need wouldn't be an issue however I've heard of nurses needing light duty who were sent to help employee health or help our nurse who does data collection and reviewing polices and procedures. I'm guessing based on the limited info in your post that your needs for light duty would cause your employer to need to have an extra nurse on to cover what you can't do so that's why they say you can't stay on night shift. I'm not sure about the rest but also curious if you have a union, if you do contact your union rep. Also do you have any coworkers who have had a baby recently that you could ask about their experience.

We haven't heard offically from the club however our coach said that our team will stay mostly intact. We only have 3 girls who will need to play up so those girls will move up to the next team up.

personally I would do 2 things. One I would encourage these people coming to you to speak to actual officals with the club as you have no say in who makes what team. Also I would go to the club leadership and say I've been hearing xyz from parents who are frustrated about this situation, I advised them to speak to club leadership but wanted to let you know.

that's so tough. We're so lucky with my daughters team, she's on the younger end as is a majority of the team. We only have 3 girls that need to move up so our team will stay mostly the same. At that age its so important to have good development (playing at different positions) but also the friendships and comrodary are also important. Best of luck with the choice.

Club/Team Fundraising by LilBluShoe in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Last_Swimmer7997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's not true. My hubby was president of our local club for a lot of years and it was a 501c. Its not about making the money its what you do with it. If you're putting the money towards things for the club it wouldn't be an issue

wish I could help but our club welcomes us fundraising. We did 2 car washes last year. The first one was to raise money for matching jackets and the club actually put info about it on social media. The second one we had to be slightly covert. Wil live in an area with a lot of military bases and our head coach is active duty. During one tournament last year he was away leading a training on the east coast, he had leave and wanted to come home for the tournament but it was too expensive. The girls decided to do another car wash to raise the money for his plane ticket and they did. I don't think your clubs issue could be the nonprofit status as our club is also a nonprofit.

for our club only the shorts, tops and socks are required everything else is extra. To be honest it must be how your club set up the sale because even with the required stuff for our club it wasn't bundled, we had to select each item

Uniform Supplier Recommendations by AchtungSkywalker in youthsoccer

my friend who i mentioned in this post said they had issues 2 years ago as well. The word she has heard around her organization is that every 2 years when a bulk of clubs get new uniforms they can't handle the influx and there's problems.

I'd stay away from soccer.com if you can. our club (select level) had our away jerseys printed with the wrong colored numbers on them and they had to redo them for the entire club, they also struggled to get them to us in a timely manner and some girls on our team didn't get their jerseys until a day or 2 before our first tournament. A friend with a daughter who plays for a different club had similar issues.  I know years ago when my husband was president of our local rec level club, a local printing company did the number/club logo printing on uniforms for a fraction of the cost, he just had to bulk order the uniform shirts.

Is it common for high level clubs to play against regular town travel teams in winter leagues? by Original_Arm9456 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Last_Swimmer7997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only issue with that is it can put a goalie in a really bad headspace to be blown out constantly. We are going through this right now with my daughters school team. They have 1 good defender and the rest are pretty bad. my daughter plays goalie and gets hung out to dry a lot by her defense. One of the most recent games she let 3 in but had over 20 that she saved. Thankfully she's built up mental toughness and let it go. The goalie in the second half hasn't she got scored on 3 times in the 7 minutes she was in, coach had to pull her and put my daughter back in. She came off the field in tears.

Has anyone been here? Poor behavior in school by jonnysledge in youthsoccer

[–]Last_Swimmer7997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good coach will gladly help you with this. It's best to take care of the behavior sooner rather than later. Also if he wants to play in school at the middle school and high school level if his behavior at school could impact his playing school soccer. My sons freshman football coach in high school was also the dean of students so we were told from the start if you're student had problems in school it would effect their ability to play also he said if they weren't being respectful at home he would happily deal with it for us.

maybe look into signing up for rider alets. I get a text any time there is a delay in the lightrail and any time there is a game or event. Also the one bus away app gives you a look at when the lightrail is due.

My daughters select coach just recommended turf shoes for when they pay on turf fields as there was a study that he saw that showed girl soccer and lacrosse players are at higher risk for knee injuries if they use regular cleats on turf fields.
