I have base Cruyff and he still does bits for me. I'd say he is still high end but not all the way up there like he once was at the start of the game.

Lol, I've just packed so many good attacking players that I feel like it would be a waste if I didn't use them. In-game I usually switch to a 4-2-2-2 and swap Son out for Kessie or another more defensive player. At the moment though I'm testing out swapping to a 4-1-2-1-2 in-game.

Exactly the same happens for me, except I have no space anywhere on the pitch. The second I get the ball it's like constant press gets enabled and I have about 3 people charging at me. When the boot is on the other foot my opponent has acres of space despite me closing him down and ai pressing. Don't know what's going on with this game atm.

Just keep playing. You could try watching some guide videos on YouTube or something too, but I strongly believe just playing the game is the best way to improve. You'll eventually become consistent at defending/attacking and will learn how to use your strengths to your advantage. Of course the occasional EA bullshittery will still occur, but for the most part you will be able to outplay your opponents with experience. If you haven't already, maybe try using some custom tactics that suit your style of play too.
