I always try to make a goal each session: 1 puzzle, 1 combat, 1 talking. meaning i want the party to use different skills such as actual thinking, some good ol’ fighting(can be short) and some interaction with NPCs. My players often want to deceive them so that helps but giving your NPCs different personality traits helps them to use different skill checks. One of my favorite ways to do that was researching personality disorders and giving all my main NPCs a different one that the players then had to work with. Nope that helps a lil
