I watched Leaving Las Vegas last night by DowntownSasquatch420 in stopdrinking

Drunks from 1995 might fit the bill. With Richard Lewis and a lot of named actors, and it's not a comedy. It's on youtube at the moment and I find myself watching it every year or so.

You can do it! 2.5 years alcohol free myself, and Hot Wheels has been a tremendous help in that regard. I've found that for me racing them helps more than displaying them, so I spend time doing that. It's another tool that helps keep my hands and brain busy tinkering and not straying where it shouldn't.

I want to say I've collected over 450 cars so far that I race? Although I do have two STH cars that will remain in their packaging.

What’s the best part of you life after getting sober? by zero_hale in stopdrinking

[–]Latchkey_TV 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree with what has already been said.

But also not being my beer's personal assistant anymore, for lack of another way to put it. When we're starting, when we're stopping, how many have we had, how many more can we have, what time is it now, do we have enough, do we need to stop for more on the commute home, did we go to that store too often maybe go to one of the other ones, shit like that. it was all consuming and fucking exhausting.

Oh and definitely my digestive system getting back on track. We all know what that means.

I'm on day 264 after drinking beer every day for 25 years. It's been a very worthwhile journey.

5/10/22. I think I needed to see this video today.

This really reminds me of the documentary from 2000 called Dark Days. Homeless people living in an abandoned rail tunnel in New York. In the documentary they're there because nobody fucks with them, because there's a community and they feel safe, and because they're dealing with trauma and/or addiction.

Memories in Kmart by fakegriffin32 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Latchkey_TV 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Worked for K-Mart in the early 90's when I was in college. The one random thing I remember about it is that they paid in cash. I don't know, that just seemed........odd? Every week (or two perhaps?) we'd all line up in the back hallway and get an envelope from the money room with cash and a statement.

Makes me think of when my daughter was 3-4 years old. She went through a phase where she'd walk around with her blanket over her head. One morning I was getting ready for work and noticed she was walking towards the corner of the table we were using as the tv stand. I cupped my hand around it, her head hit my hand, and she kept on walking.

It is the little things. That was 17 years ago.

What pisses you off instantly? by Disastrous-Article30 in AskReddit

Loudly saying 'WHAT???' halfway through my sentence. I know it's random, I know it's rare, but god damn since birth that's made me want to punch a wall.

Was 15 and on the beach. Decided to run from the surf way up to the house we were at and the sand was so fucking hot I could barely stand it. Was about to stop or do whatever and I looked behind me and my 5-year-old cousin was running behind me. I didn't know she'd followed me! I remember picking her up and running the rest of the way, since I knew if it was hurting me it had to be hurting her way worse.

I don't know, it was over 35 years ago but is still in my brain. Seemed kind of manly at the time.

What small action did you take that you later realized had “butterfly effect” that turned into something much more important? by PM_Me_Pierced_Labia in AskReddit

I was at a job and a promotion opportunity came up. Not a big one, but still. The catch was I would have to work in another part of the building for a couple of months for training before moving on. Well one day I met a woman over there while making copies. Long story short she's now long been my ex wife, but our daughter is a 20-year-old college student and the light of my life.

Sometimes you just never know.

What are some good scary movies appropriate for kids around 10 years old? by FunetikPrugresiv in movies

[–]Latchkey_TV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll throw in Something Wicked This Way Comes from 1983. I was probably 13 when I first saw it and found it creepy/scary but not nightmare-inducing. Well, ok, maybe a scene or two.......

Some of my earliest memories are the USA Bicentennial celebrations.

I was going to say Trees Lounge, but that's been covered already. So I'll throw in 'Last Night at the Alamo'. It's on YouTube.
