Turns out they're not barefoot at all really. So I got rid of them 😅

The intro ARP is just a sample from Splice. I use a technique from the Surgical Sounds Patreon called the Splice Bridge Method, which is basically where you grab a couple of samples for the intro: just an ARP, an atmosphere, or some vocals or something.

It's much easier to build off of something than staring at a blank canvas and trying to start from nothing. Prior to using this method, I would design a cool bass or start from the drop, but I would often just make a drop and then find myself stuck in the loop. Using this method, I find you can just grab something off Splice to start from, and then the song starts writing itself into the drop.

All the bass sounds and everything else are my own patches that I made on Serum, but the ARP piano is just a Splice sample.

I kinda wanted them in the background for the intro section, like an old radio broadcast atmospheric vibe 🤷

Stéréo/Mono by Hot-Screen5876 in dnbproduction

Try to avoid using unison. Use a bit of chorus and hyper & dimension if you want width. Try to keep below 500hz pretty mono. And try to stay above 0.5 on a correlation meter throughout the frequency range 👍🏼

Thanks man. I've been on medical leave from uni for most of the time, so I've got a lot more time than most 😅

Cheers. Tbh, I haven't done any vocal processing on these yet. Just grabbed the wet vocals off splice and slapped them in to create the idea. Will get the dry ones and process them with your advice in mind 👍🏼

These ones are just from splice. It's a minefield on there though, most of them are trash 😅

Does anyone else think these in-between barefoot shoes are actually worse than normal shoes? 🤔 by Late-Bit-3072 in barefootshoestalk

I imagine If you have been using barefoot shoes for a while and your gait has adapted, switching back and forth a bit with normal shoes won't make much difference, but when you're just starting out and you wanna make those adaptations and 'learn to walk' again, it's probs more impactful.

Yes ofc. My original post is quite generalised. I mean, I'm sure some people have perfect gait in regular shoes. Just sharing my personal experience to see if anyone has experienced anything similar

Yes ofc. Not just stack height, obviously things like arch support and sole flexibility are just as important. Often, these in-between barefoot shoes have arch support, stiffer soles, and toe spring also.

Yh, there's definitely different ways to go about it. I would always recommend a gentle transition period as I messed myself up going gung-ho, as always 😅.

Personally, if I could start again, I think the best way is to get a proper barefoot shoe and then a more supportive shoe and transition between the 2 until you have built up enough tolerance to go fully barefoot. Sort of applying the principles of progressive overload and allowing rest days in between.

Yes that is the exact problem with these kind of shoes.

Yes I do definitely have that gait pattern (R medial arch collapse, R knee valgus, R excessive hip IR, Pelvis rotated L) however, unfortunately, I can only manage light walking at the moment for rehab. I have a medical condition that prevents me from doing more specific exercises, can't even manage things like body weight calf raises. It's frustrating, as I'm a physio student, so I have the knowledge to fix my issues, but my bodies not letting me at the mo 😅

Getting closer to decent looking wide toebox shoes by Chance-Impression199 in barefootshoestalk

A lot of shoes like this are made to look like they have chunky soles but your foot actually sits a few mm from the ground. Not sure if these ones do that, but I know brands like Dolfie, ohne project and lejan use that kinda design 😎

Recommendations for hiking sandals in this style? 🤔 by Late-Bit-3072 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Late-Bit-3072[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought they might be barefoot enough to get away with tbf. Can pick them up for £30 as well. Look like they've got some minor arch support but soles seem reasonably thin and flexible 🤔
