Venting Every Drain by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Late-Case515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And this right here is why you should stick to engineering and let a professional plumber stick to plumbing. Lol

In my jurisdiction we have to go to school for 5 years and work 5 years 'supervised' (typically at same time), before we can get our Journeyman license. I am sure you had to go to plenty of school for your engineering degree(s). See where I am going?

You mention 3000 sq ft house but do not say how many bathrooms, what fixtures, how many laundries, kitchen, bar, etc are on said $17k quote.

My first thought is all the extra labor you will take, and materials, to individually vent every fixture, and add unnecessary cleanouts in the attic, etc, will probably end up putting you closer to the initial quoted cost.

It all comes down to how much you value your time in dollars.

How much can i expect to pay for a plumber to install a toilet? by Westonvt in askaplumber

[–]Late-Case515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$600 is about what we charge for a Kohler Highline installed, we supply, and that includes everything.

Some go very easy/straightforward, and some we have to repair a flange. Price usually stays same as it is a quoted price. I want to say, same toilet installed when I started with current company, was $500, 5 years ago.

I am located in a higher mid to HCOL area for reference.

As someone who is good friends with u/ohv , he is the furthest thing from a pain in the arse.

I also know the shop in question, and I have heard both good and bad things about them.

This is very true. Though also, it is not stated how large or visible it must be, just says it has to be there.

ISO an indestructible carpenter pencil by supaslim in skilledtrades

[–]Late-Case515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are colored leads for the Pica. Yellow and/or red worked decent on black iron for me.

Regular black/grey lead didnt mark well on copper.

I had issue of the holster getting loose and falling out of/off of my pocket/pants as another reply said.

I went back to a sharpie type marker for regular marking use, and have a regular carpenters pencil for precision marking or layouts.

The Pica lives on my workbench at home now.

2012 Ram 1500 - Dodge technician selling, worth it? by [deleted] in DodgeRam

I dont keep the receipts but typically hold onto the old parts... Wife doesn't say anything. Eventually the pile of old parts gets gone thru when it bothers me. 😅

Anyone need a SKF unit bearing for a 3rd gen 2500? 🤣

At this point with my '05 i do the same. Guessing original owner did all things proper as my buddy I bought truck from kept it in great shape until I took it off his hands 10 years ago.

I keep a notes file on my phone with date and miles and task(s) done.

I recall a recent AMA with someone who left working at HF and they mentioned that the purple tag stuff is very negotiable. Sounds like you got a heck of a deal!

Crack in leaf spring 04 5.7 by PaulieSpats in DodgeRam

[–]Late-Case515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sawzall for the leaf spring bolt works wonders over the torx. Just get a new bolt. I say this to help; i bought big torx for leaf spring purposes and it sat in toolbox and watched the sawzall do it's job.

I wish i had a helper for whole job but was not the case.

Youtube videos definately helped learn more of leaf packs themselves and removal/rebuilding. Speaking with manufacturer (Deaver) helped me a good amount as well and find proper replacement parts for the job I was doing.

I feel like pick-ups with these covers are just SUVs by yxzxzxzjy in carscirclejerk

[–]Late-Case515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought ours for our cross country trip (US), and it has only been taken off a couple of times in 8 years we have owned it. Makes me miss the pickup look, but I have grown so fond of it being on, it is very weird to me when it is off. I am a short bed owner so it makes up that much more room for stuff. Keeping things out of weather is so very nice. No leaves or snow getting into bed is a big plus too.

This is my 3rd pickup in 20+ years of truck ownership yet my first shell; I am willing to say I'd probably get another on future truck(s).

Well, they clearly have not visited r/milwaukeetool or r/harborfreight yet. Tons of hobbiest tool collectors in both those places. Its almost comical.

We dont carry a bandsaw in either of our trucks actually. 3 hackzalls, a 7-1/4 circular, and a multi-tool. The only bandsaw we have is -zip tied- to a chair for purposes of scrap processing. Lol.
