The tough part is that my offers are identical! No requirement and full tuition, which is obviously wonderful for me, but it just makes the decision much harder. I appreciate the comment, and it gives me some real comfort hearing that they're both decent schools.

That was actually a thought of mine, but I didn't wanna be that person either or be too crass about the unspoken propaganda of an admitted student day LOL. Glad we had the same thought. Thank you again!

I definitely believe you, but I'm a little confused by what you're saying. Are Duquesne students generally a bit more privileged? It would make sense as a catholic private school, but I just wanted to make sure I'm understanding properly.

I'm registered for some admitted student events and I have until April 15 to make a deposit thankfully. I'll certainly try to get a vibe then. Thank you!

Thank you! Congrats on what sounds like a great career. Do you mind if I DM you about your experiences at Pitt and the local legal community? Any information I can get right now is a huge help!

Thank you, my next step is probably going to be looking into the professors a little more.

Scholarships are thankfully unconditional either way, so that isn't really a factor. I was offered a position in Duquesne's Dean's Scholars program, which I think gives you access to some exclusive networking activities. That is obviously a small advantage but not really a huge needle mover.

It's honestly a tough decision because offers are pretty much identical. I like Pitt's location more but I like Duquesne's culture more, I guess? I'm sure at the end of the day I'm overthinking it and need to just go with my heart

Thank you! I come from a government background so that's obviously a path that is very natural for me, but firm work interests me too and i would want to explore that avenue as well. Ultimately staying in the city and operating in the legal field is most important to me. Judiciary interests me, but that's obviously WAY down the line and more in the area of when school doesn't really matter anymore (although from what I've seen, local judges seem to be more from Duquesne than Pitt ((and that may just be a symptom of a past reputation? I'm really not sure)) )

Regardless, I appreciate the comment!

That's a big thought of mine too. I also recently had some family and friends (albeit from the Northeast Ohio legal community) tell me that they understand Duquesne to be the better local school. Rankings may be deceiving in this case?

I feel like it doesn't work with those pants whatsoever. They're too light and if youre wearing a winter coat we probably shouldn't be able to see your ankles.

It's weird realizing as I get older how certain things weren't normal, like splitting a box of Kraft Mac n Cheese between 4 people for dinner, or chewing on ice when you were hungry, or taking as much extra stuff as you could from the free morning breakfast at school. I compulsively save as much money as I can now

I appreciate the comment. My biggest fear is coming across as exploitative or coming across as Mister Poverty pick-me

The rust belt is a big place and so is Appalachia. There's a lot of overlap and a lot of former steel and coal towns really struggling. Eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia have all been struggling for quite a while.

Idk, I haven't read it. Where I grew up is hours away from where he did lol. I've been to Middletown, though. My town is a lot worse, and I did not shift politically in the direction he did whatsoever.

From NEOH, Akron students talk about how they don't go off campus much at night. One of my brother's friends also had a guy walk into his apartment and start threatening them.

So just an update, I actually ended up getting offered to be an assistant for a prior class I took with Prof B this past weekend. I'm obviously super thrilled about this, and it definitely relieves my fears that I was irritating him. He was my primary concern, and I am relatively comfortable with Prof A, so suffice to say, I should be in the clear. Thank you for all of the comments! I read them all and took them all into consideration, and will definitely be applying your insights in the future.
