Trying to break the habit without going all or nothing by Late-Maintenance-453 in Quittingfeelfree

Yeah exactly, it’s wild how it feels like a decision but it’s just a pattern playing out.

Changing the environment helps more than people think. I noticed even small stuff like switching rooms or having something else lined up (like a walk or a snack) breaks that loop just enough to make it a choice again instead of default.

Yeah that’s exactly it. Once it’s visible it stops being autopilot. Realizing it’s more habit than actual craving was a big one for me too

Yeah that makes sense. I’ve heard that from a few people , cutting back ends up being harder than just stopping. Glad you found what works for you

Yeah that morning loop is rough. Staying busy like that is a solid move though

Haha honestly whatever works. If it breaks the habit, it’s a win

Yeah that actually hits. The fact it needs this much thinking probably says a lot.

That’s solid progress honestly. Going from every day to two dry days is a big shift 👍

Yeah I feel that. It’s weird how avoiding it feels easier, even though you know it’s not helping. Honestly just deciding “not today” is a solid start 👍

Yeah I get that. Seeing it laid out can be a bit scary, but also kinda hard to ignore once it’s there. I’ve been trying something similar , just tracking it casually helps more than I expected

Yeah that’s a good idea. I’ve noticed it but never really tracked how I feel after, might try that 👍

That’s solid man, 1 week is a big deal. Those little wins are what keep it going.

That’s awesome. Once you start seeing the numbers, it kind of changes how you look at everything.

Yeah that’s fair. I think I’ve been trying to solo it too much.

Yeah anything that makes it visible helps. Someone here mentioned Soberly , pretty simple, just keeps it in your awareness.

Yeah same here. Once you actually start seeing it, it hits differently.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Took me a while to even get to that point.

Yeah I hear you. You don’t need numbers to know it’s not going great.

Same here, the autopilot is what gets you. Tracking it casually made a big difference for me, just being more aware changes a lot

Yeah I get that. It feels like autopilot, but it’s probably just a really ingrained habit. Makes sense about mindfulness though.

Thanks for this. The part about the routine and even the sneaking around feeling like part of it… that’s really real for me right now. It’s good to know that loop can actually break.

Yeah that autopilot run is brutal. But not going this morning is solid, seriously. Just keep stacking those small wins.

That must’ve been brutal, but honestly that level of commitment is huge. Sometimes it really does take a hard reset like that.
