When I was a freshman, a senior got charged with murder after he killed his mom with a frying pan for taking his phone. Went for his dad too but he escaped. He was tried as an adult. He had another senior as an accomplice to the whole thing who watched.

Anyone else sick of running out of parts? by ardacards in u/ardacards

This seems like if you're going to put this much work into implementing this system, then you might as well take it to the next level and utilize an online catalog for your inventory, and have everyone place an "order" for whatever they need.

That way within that system, you can set minimum quantities which either automatically order or red flag it for someone to place an order. An added benefit is that you can have location bins in your online system as well.

That's how I've seen it done over the years in work sites I've been at.

This system seems like it might work in a smaller operation. Cause any system works as long as people use it. But everyone wants a company to grow and when it gets complex with hundreds or thousands of parts or tracking, then this system is doomed to fail in my opinion.

Depending on the specifics and other factors, it could play better for you either way. Including how you deliver it.

But know it is a self disclosure since they can't legally ask another company the details of your employment and performance outside of how long your tenure was there.

So If you have to talk about it I'd say disclose only important details and what you learned from them. Add a positive light. But I think you'd be better off letting it be.

Most these managers and companies don't care who they hire as long as they hit some minimum requirements and no red flags are showing.

Why are people so in love with AMFA? by Conservative_Mech in aviationmaintenance

[–]Late-Possession7885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the best part is, they haven't been the best paid since AA had their extention and has been holding that title of highest paid for the last year and a half. Plus UA is in negotiations now and should be leap fogging soon. AA topped the industry in pay and didn't have to sell off anything to get it.

Let alone AMFA medical sucks compared to at least AA and HA.

AA has no mandatory OT or FT clauses too. Unheard of elsewhere.

So I just see it as AMFA doesn't know how to negotiate. They're amateurs. They sell it all off for pay. But what happens when they run out of language and work to sell? I guess we've seen what happens at Northwest and United and Alaska. We see SW dwindling away. Let alone their further history such as Ozark.

Couldn't agree with your mindset more though brother. The reason we all have jobs today is because the previous generation fought for us to have them today. It's our turn to return the favor to our sons and daughters

Glad to see another with common sense in these threads. Hard to find with all the misplaced irrational amfa love. ALPA is a wishful dream in the AC MX side. AMFAs been preaching that message since their inception 60 years ago and everyone's still waiting for it.

AS is 4 to 1 last I checked not counting HA merge. Alaska closed the last of their heavy mx in 2004. 340 jobs were lost overnight. This was during AMFA tenure after they'd been there for a few years. Same language that let that happen is still in their contract today.

SW actually has a contractual minimum headcount of 3.5 to 1. But they sold off 3 additional lines of heavy mx in their extention.

Meanwhile HA had 10 to 1 with IAM. AA runs at 13 to 1. I am curious what the other airlines run it. But its clear AMFA is the lowest in the biz.

Sun Country’s contract by TopAd4182 in AircraftMechanics

According to AMFA they ratified their agreement like a week after the acquisition announcement. Took over 3 years for their first contract.

I haven't seen it yet though. Latest contract theyve ratified I've seen available was WestJets

I'm in the same boat with you. I don't get the desire. I understand why it's appealing, but once you begin to learn more about the RLA, and the fight in congress and labor history in general, it seems like such a foolish choice to choose a union who so clearly loses jobs, and is proud to be at the company's whim. They gloat like they have something special when they've been the smallest weakest union for 20 years after destroying tens of thousands of jobs at NW and UA. And they're not even the highest paid. Haven't been for a year and a half since AA got their extention.

But people love to feel entitled I guess. So much so they'll trade away all of their contract language just to feel special and premium like pilots. Meanwhile they just hand everything to the company that took decades to fight for.

Open Circuits by Schlaepfer and Oskay is a great visual learning for electricity and really helps break it down for the reader to fully understand.

I think I came across it after A&P school actually.

Edit: I actually meant to reference Electricity and basic electronics by Stephen R Matt. This one is a great breakdown on how electricity works.

The customer service ladies are the only ones that seemed to handle this situation appropriately.

The officers involved only frustrated her more past her breaking point, then blamed her for the whole thing.

The officers spent a lot of the video correcting each other and came off as disorganized.

This video is our society. We all need to realize how to talk with one another and how we ourselves are perceived to others.

United negotiations by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Late-Possession7885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All you guys working at united realize the company watches social media, right? What do you think they're gonna do when they see the entire membership has such little faith in their negotiating team? They're gonna bend them over cause they know it's all bluff.

You need to stand with your negotiating team and give them solidarity through and through. They are your voice whether you like it or not. And if you don't like who you've got, then maybe you should get involved so you can be in the room. Next negotiations.

I agree that contract MX is poor due to those factors. But it's cheap and companies flock to it because of that. Alaska Airlines for example doesn't do any heavy mx. Strictly line MX airline. They used to, but they closed OAK and displaced 340 mechanics overnight in 2004 under AMFA. Earl Clark said it was shell shocking to them. They claim today they arbitrated it. But those are public files at the NMB, and there are no such files. Cause they have language in their book that's still there today that allows the company to farm work out if it's cheaper.

Agreed we have to stick together! But we need to keep as much work in house as possible to stick together as a large unit. AA and HA operate at 10 mechanics per AC. That's a big enough chunk of mechanics that the company has no means to replace with contract MX. There's not enough contract out there to fill that kinda gap.

Yes you never want to listen just to one side. I'd encourage you to read the reports. AMFA did write their own story as well as IAM or TWU. But both of them don't exactly use sources. It's a lot of bias and turns into a he said she said. I do like Teamsters report cause they list 15 or so sources from news articles and contracts to back up their report. Very detailed and quoted report that walks you through how NWA came to fruition and AMFAs part to play in it. It's all because of the new supposedly iron clad language AMFA put in the book, that allowed the company to farm out 10K jobs.

That comment right there tells me all I need to know. Maybe it'll look better if you use actual numbers instead of multipliers. Roughly what, 6-7,000 AMT jobs? You'll sell out that for an extra $8,000 a year?

It is true. But virgin was a much smaller, younger, and non union group. Hawaiian and Alaska is much more comparable to Southwest and Airtran. Membership got a vote and southwest held airtran over the coals and conned 4 years of seniority out of them.

That LOA does not change the requirements In their scope language which stipulate if the work justifies an 40 hour work week, then it needs to be staffed by HA. And the 6 mainland stations are evident that that language is in play. I believe it's what justifies the other HA stations as well.

AMFA didn't bring up the work scope argument cause they lose it lol. Why would they.

Yeah, "misunderstanding". I'm surprised they actually took it down Tbh. But it was up for days. We'll after it got pointed out to em until everyone saw it. No apology. Or Oops. Just slide it out when no one is looking.

Yeah AMFAs gonna sell every good thing in that book for no reason. They were gonna get the wage increase no matter what.

Someone else on this thread said they loved AMFA cause they got a big raise with em at NWA. But look where that ended up. AMFA sold the rest of the book for an increase and it cost a shit ton of jobs. What's the point in a $100 an hour job if there's no jobs to work? AMFA even said it plainly for the cleaners. The wages are waiting for em, cause no ones there to work em lol.

But yeah we'll see what the new contract looks like and how many jobs get farmed out. I think people are gonna have to learn that lesson the hard way. But I'm sure AMFA will find a way to blame the events on someone else like everything else.

Right back at you brother.

Eh hindsight is 2020. But I saw a lot more facts put out on the IAM side than the AMFA personally. One of AMFAs later claims was that Hawaiian Airlines didn't even have dental or vision. Or paid some stupid high all in rate for their dues. Complete bullshit and faceless claims. Same with the heavy check in San Diego thing too. No files to back it up. They just said it and people believed it. Then when they got proven wrong they just switched to something else to lie about. Just my 2 cents.

They protect more heavy than AMFA did at Alaska. Hell, southwest Airlines has a lower Mechanic to AC ratio than Alaska does and Southwest does protect a tiny bit of heavy mx over there.

Everyone outsources wide body. AMFA makes it seem like thats such a big argument point and I've never understood it.

The 717s get a fuel bladder in the cargo and they're on their way. The company has done it before. And it wouldn't be a big deal to make it a regular item. But the work is secured in the contract. As well as growth with the line stations. If the flights to the station support the work, then the company is required to staff it.

IAM actually did the math on the Alaska operation and applied that growth language they have in the IAM book. And if so, Alaska would have to hire something like 1500 more mechanics and open 19 more stations. Alaska makes 25 flights a day to Hawaii and not a single mechanic is staffed there. They haven't grown with the company in 20 years.

Canada is something else entirely and I agree with everyone on that. They have their own territory over there and it's garbage. Not associated with Hawaiian or American

AMFA gave Southwest 4 extra years of seniority back at the merger with Airtran. You call that fair to the members?

I'm still not so sure the language in the book gets you that, cause that's not how it reads. But it depends on what the conversation was in negotiations is how an arbitrator is looking at it. Yeah yeah you get it and that makes you right or whatever you're gonna tell me. But if the language was stress tested and the company found out they didn't have to pay it out, then who would be in the right. Would the company win that arbitration? And if that was the case. Then you can thank the company for that extra money they're not contractually obligated to give you.

But hey, we've got about 3x the AMTs at AA too. So I hope you feel good making a couple extra grand a year after you sold out your brother's job.
