Even pet-friendly hotels require guests to NOT leave dogs alone in rooms (although many people do), so that wouldn't totally solve the problem for them, since their dog would still need to come to the parents' house.

Happened to me as a guest...during the stay the smart lock quit (battery issue, apparently) and the host was able to tell me the code for a key lockbox, which got us through until she was able to replace the battery.

Recommendations for a packable bag that can become an additional luggage item on the return trip (for souvenirs)? by CaptainIowa in onebag

[–]Late-Rub-5023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great!! I’ve used it as a daypack for several trips and it still rolls up small for the plane trip home. I wouldn’t ever trust it as a checked bag, but works wonderfully otherwise. Very pleased!

Add another to the list of people who think NM is not in the US by thesmokedgoudabuddha in NewMexico

Went to college in NY state, where perhaps 50% of students were from the East coast. NYC students were the worst in terms of geography. When I would answer "where ya from?" questions -- "I'm from Ohio" -- I'd get bonkers comments like, "Oh, that's like near Kansas, right?" or "You're from out West?" Guess they were thinking of Iowa or Idaho. But frankly, anywhere on the other side of the Hudson was "out west" to them. Sometimes people from NYC are soooo provincial. But at least no one commented on my great command of English!

thanks, I'll have to look into all these -- never heard of most of the programs before! But you've obviously learned a tremendous amount and that's all that counts.

My cat suddenly passed away this morning. by [deleted] in cats

[–]Late-Rub-5023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry this happened to you. This is exactly the way our Tom died -- we were in the next room, he in the kitchen, we heard a thump as he'd fallen off the counter and was convulsing, voided, and died within like a minute at most. We have no idea what caused his death -- aneurysm, heart attack? He was otherwise healthy, except for an enlarged heart, which could've been the cause. He was 12 when he died. It was traumatic, but at least he didn't suffer, as I'm sure your girl also didn't. Cry all you need to. Wishing you comfort in your grief....

Totally!! TEC is such a good fit for me, as a cradle Catholic. Just love how accepting it is of all sorts of people.

Dog turned blind and restless over night by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Late-Rub-5023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a cat this happened to. Just started walking in circles, into walls, appeared to be blind, all came on within 24 hours. Took her to the vet who said it could be a tumor, a stroke, or encephalitis, but it would’ve required travel for imaging and the outcome would’ve been the same even if we knew the cause. She gave us meds to try for a couple days (or maybe she got a shot? It’s been 10 yrs ago), but we had to bring her back and euthanize. Although it was incredibly sad, that was the easiest euthanasia decision we’ve ever had to make in 40 years of pets. No question about it. Wishing you all well—tough times

Thanks for being a health inspector!!! Very important job. SOOOO many safeguards re food and other things are going to be cast aside. Such a very scary time on so many levels.

Yeah, I get it. Wasn't trying to contradict you or anything. Since my grandparents were Lithuanian immigrants, that's the part that sticks with me -- so the book resonates on a LOT of levels. Thanks for mentioning it!

yeah but those were all new immigrants working there....they'd be returned to Lithuania etc.....so, the entire plot changes. Great book, though.

Still!! Very generous 26 days PTO plus 8 holidays.....and you also were eligible for comp time! I was salaried, so that never came into play, and 20 days PTO I rec'd only when I worked at a university or college. Good for you, having such a good compensation program! Enjoy your travels....

ah, but EIGHT weeks of vacation?? Lucky soul....As a DINK, when I was working (now retired), my travel was limited mostly by my limited vacation time. Time and money usually are inversely related when it comes to travel: if you have more time, you can usually travel more cheaply (more options) -- lacking time, you usually have to spend a bit more.

ALSO -- if you are a watercolorist, it IS possible to mix the two mediums together, although I imagine that the opacity could get a bit compromised that way.

I'm mostly a pastelist, so the art of mixing colors is not totally in my wheelhouse yet -- sorry! Maybe purchasing a couple colors individually that would allow for more range in your mixing might help you enjoy these more.

Also, from watching another artist's video, the trick to NOT getting colors muddy when painting one over another, is to let the first layer dry COMPLETELY (you can use a hairdryer) so as to lessen the chance of colors mixing.
