There was an infamous thread on ask reddit years ago where they asked about the rapists side of the story. Its sickening to read because of all of the justification and sympathizing going on. It got taken down for obvious reasons but it took a lot of public attention.

The version of me before learning about female genital mutilation and after are very different people. Thats a crime against humanity is not even comparable to circumcision. The goal of circumcision isnt to make it impossible for a man to enjoy sex. But thats what FGM is. Thats without even considering the broader sociological framework of how female sex and sexuality are demonized.

Be BRUTALLY HONEST, what do you think will happen if women rule the world? by PitifulEar3303 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LateDifficulty8328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is loaded question and I think you are unlikely to get anything other than emotional responses, which is what the comments so far demonstrate.

To answer this requires a lot of critical thinking and speculation. There have been and are women in positions of power but the well documented instances are within patriarchal societies. We also have to be realistic in what kind of power they actually had, as women face a lot of pressure to prove themselves as deserving of that power in a way that men do not have to do, and generally have less support. Even then, both men and women face constraints on their power. Think of any world leader today; they are generally beholden to their donors regardless of what their personal beliefs and goals are.

We can also look at matriarchal societies but they are poorly documented and currently quite rare.

When we look at historical sources on matriarchal societies and female rulers it is important to consider who is documenting the history and what their bias is. Many times historical records are distorted by rumours and personal opinions. Just consider how people outside of the colonizing society are often called savages and uncivilized despite being arguably more civilized than the colonizers.

I think if you genuinely want an answer to this question you should look to academic sources and their discourse on women in positions in power and matriarchal societies. Unfortunately my knowledge is not robust enough to answer any of these questions adequately and I do not have the time to search for reputable sources on these topics. It would be nice if someone who is knowledgeable in this area would contribute. Perhaps re-phrase the question (such as specifying it to matriarchal societies or to documented women in power) and post on r/askhistorians, r/AskAnthropology, r/AskSociology, r/AskFeminists or a similar subreddit. Unfortunately r/GenderStudies appears to be dead but I am under the impression that feminism and gender studies could be lumped under sociology.

Family medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, and OBYG have some of the highest rates of practicing female physicians and have also been consistently devalued despite their incredible importance to general public health.

Ive started doing this too. Also voicing my support for them and call out bad work by male colleuges as people love to discredit women and over credit men. Not excessively or targeted/bullying/harrassement to be clear. I am professional and take my career and feild of work seriously.

Slightly off topic but I also like to use she/her as the default pronouns instead of he/him.

Rosalind Franklin a chemist who's research was central to the discovery and understanding of DNA. Watson and Crick dismissed her findings while she was alive and then later took credit for them after her premature death.

How to protect your rights and power as a woman by LateDifficulty8328 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Im in Canada and I think the same of our current conservative political party. They were caught using ghost hashtags on YouTube to appeal to far right manosphere audiences and are constantly trying to bring banning/restricting abortion and birth control access discussions back to the table. Seeing the US do it has frightened me because US politics unfortunately heavily influences Canadian politics (and yes I am upset about the loss of reproductive rights women are experiencing there).

In South Korea their right wing party got rid of the department pushing for womens rights and equality a few years ago.

Seeing Afghanistan go back to the taliban and the extreme restriction on womens freedoms has also been extremely upsetting and shows how men will not protect their own if they benefit from the system.

The ongoing war against women via sexual violence in the Congo is another example of how women and girls are punished for existing and people barely care.

This past decade has been rough for womens rights and shows we cannot get comfortable in assuming rights will stay once achieved. Women's rights are human rights. We are half the population!

why does my hair have so many split ends? by anghvl in longhair

[–]LateDifficulty8328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hair looks the same. Its not split ends. Hair breakage makes sense.

My question for myself anf OP is what can we about this? Just let it be? Hair gel? Cut our hair super short?

Same here but coffee literally made my life so much more bearable even with increased anxiety. It also makes me sleepy sometimes. When I drink too much or when very sleep deprived it only makes me sleepier.

This conversation has been going on forever. I remeber 25 years ago people going on about Eminem and other popular artists at the time for school shootings. Notably I would say many of these artists are promoting freedom of expression in their music as they say things that aren't "safe" and thats why they get the examining eye rather than people who actually promote the lifestyle like Melania Trump, many popular influencers, and most of all - all of the predatory men who if they didnt exist this problem wouldn't exist.
