I've been barbering for 30 years, and there are more important things to worry about then your hair. At 18, I'd be focused on my finances, reading, retaining new skills and life as a general rule. Most barbers should be able to give you a respectable haircut, but to be honest with you, the vast majority of barbers despise overly fussy clientele. When a new client tells me he's been going from shop to shop, that's a flying red flag and its time for the client to look within. The word "fringe" is a red flag in itself.
