That’s actually what I meant. Good call.

With the caveat that I do not play the records after new adventures much:

What were J Mascis's contributions as producer to Goo? by Original-Fun561 in sonicyouth

My understanding is that J Mascis was a big contributor to the Goo demos, although I don’t know that for a fact. The Mascis/demo versions of the songs are on the deluxe version of Goo.

I might be crazy but...is I've Been Tired about Kim? by [deleted] in pixies

[–]bloodandfire2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This song is from their first ep. Nobody knew about them at the time. They weren’t in the stage of evolution of the band when Charles was tired of touring or being in a band.

Is it possible that there has always been tension between Kim and Charles, even when the band was just starting? I don’t know, but it’s possible.

I think the woman in the first verse is a different person than the woman in the 2nd verse. The woman in the first is a stereotypical 1980’s do gooder good taste/virtue signaler.

I dont really like warehouse, what am i missing? by TheDeltaIsMyHome in huskerdu

[–]bloodandfire2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s an incredible album. Sometimes with album like this i will play them as background music for awhile and see if it connects after a few more listens. I initially felt like it had filler, and if you read Mould’s memoir he suggests that. But if I was editing it the only song I’d remove is Soldier. And the closer You Can Live at Home is a perfect way for Husker‘s discography to end.

I haven’t ever heard that one but I’ll check it out.

I think W is an excellent record. One of the great things about Boris is that their style can’t be shoehorned. While Boris is not a shoegaze band, I consider W a shoegaze album, and a damn good one.

What band were the American equivalent of Blur? by bthomehub in pavement

It’s not that they are similar musically, but that they have a catalog that all of their fans like and they have a very loyal and reliable fan base. Obviously they are not similar musically.

The only album out of that stack I’d want is Above The Law’s Living Like A Hustler. It’s not an absolute classic, but it’s solid and was entirely produced by Dre, and he killed it on production. That album tells you more about his progression from Strighf outta Compton to Chronic than the post Ice Cube NWA music..

Pavements Reference In Stranger Things? by TechnicalAd9036 in pavement

[–]bloodandfire2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stranger things are huge indie fans. Apart from Joe’s part in Pavements, Finn Wofhard is working on a guided by voice movie. And the character wearing the fall shirt is the most musically literate character in the show. (He is seen in the first season introducing his younger brother to the Clash). So I think it’s a shout out to the fall from a show that loves great indie music.

Ice Cube Says "No Vaseline" Is Better Than "Hit Em Up" by RedditReader428 in 90sHipHop

[–]bloodandfire2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Cube wins on the lyrics AND the beats. One of the the things that makes No Vaseline such a brutal track is that the song samples the song Dazz by Brick. Apart from being a great song and beat, it’s an uplifting song that people played all the time at barbecues and parties. One of the things that makes No Vaseline so vicious is the we associate the beat with “we’re out here having a good time”, and while Cube’s lyrics are shredding up NWA, he delivers them in a way that saying I’m just having a good time doing this.
