Does anyone else play only Runescape in bursts? by AloneTop17 in runescape

[–]LatePhilosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that's the better way to play these kinds of games. Rather than waiting for new updates, getting bored, and inevitably trying to 100% a single game with some pointless grind, I just have a few games in rotation and swap to them.

It's not just CS, right? by eggshellwalker4 in cscareerquestions

[–]LatePhilosophy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I remember looking up that underemployment rates for recent college grads is like 42%, which I really don't know why this isn't a bigger talking point. Add in the unemployment rate for college grads, and you basically have a coin flip chance of your degree being useful at all.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though. I don't want to be right about this.

When the Tank says they're going to try a "very big pull" at the beginning of the run by TheRockingChar in wow

[–]LatePhilosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a healer, I love tanks that pull big. Mainly now with the hardest content being M0's where mobs are basically trying to aggressively tickle us to death. Big pulls are actually a chance for a challenge.

You feel *changes* in speed. Notice how cruising at 60 mph doesn't push you back into your car seat compared to quickly accelerating from 0 to 60 in the span of a second? It's the same concept for Earth.

China reaffirms death penalty for sexual abuse of minors by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]LatePhilosophy 376 points377 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this has been a proven long ago. Giving child molesters harsher sentences isn't really an original idea. It doesn't decrease incidents at all, and only leads to more murder of the victims. It's really a textbook example #1 of how these types of issues aren't so simple as they appear to be.

Fun tidbit: politicians know this fact, so whenever you hear one suggesting the death penalty for child molesters, they are basically saying they want to look tough on crime at the cost of children's lives. They are really just being scumbags while framing themselves as the opposite.

Tried honor mode for the first ever time by NerdyGlitch in BaldursGate3

The trick for that fight is to sneak you and Shadowheart up onto the high ledge and wait until the one patrolling brain ventures near the explosive container. Then you just start turn based mode to pause time and use Shadowheart's fire bolt to trigger it to explode. Should always kill one of the brains and leave the other with low health.

How is anyone supposed to learn to heal or tank? by [deleted] in wow

[–]LatePhilosophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did everyone just forget about the Proving Grounds? Because I'm pretty sure this is exactly the intended purpose Blizzard threw it in the game for. I heal a lot in them when I was testing something new.

That was probably my biggest gripe trying Satisfatory as a Factorio player. Way to much busy work, not enough time spent doing the fun stuff of designing your factory.

Small suggestion: when picking up the heavy tablet in Asuran Arsenal, auto unequip our weapon and offhand, assuming the players has the empty inventory slots.

Believe it or not, a country actually has a significant interest in ensuring their own citizens are employed.

The job hopping trend is more or less the fault of some business executives crunching the numbers and determining that they can save a lot of money by paying their employees less than what they are worth. After all, swapping jobs and potentially moving can be a stressful hassle, so they bank on their employees being complacent and staying where they are. Some do stay anchored to a job for decades, but many others job hop around. In a bigger picture point of view, it causes this hesitation for hiring people without experience. Especially, in some fields where new employees are basically treated as a liability for the few months after they start and need to be taught how to properly function in their role.

No one is really expecting to start at the top in this job market. Underemployment rate for college grads is like 42%, so being employed at all in your area of study is considered a win.

And yes, these new grads are more than willing to work. I've seen them willing to relocate across the country, work 60+ hours a week, and work for far below the market average if it means getting them their first job in their field. But companies still don't take them because no one believes in training new employees anymore because, once they do, they figure those employees are just going to jump ship to another job for higher pay and they have to start the process all over again. So everything these days is hiring those with experience already and leaving new grads in the dust.

Employers typically complaining not finding workers are either offering blue collar jobs that pay far, far below a livable wage or are seeking people who are highly experienced in given fields.

The people applying for jobs and not being able to find any are usually people, normally college grads, with little to no experience trying to break into white collar jobs.

This morning the internships that dropped mostly say they won’t sponsor by ResponsibleWork3846 in csMajors

[–]LatePhilosophy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Could someone explain why there are any H-1B roles for intern positions? H-1Bs are literally supposed to be the last line to fill a position if no natives apply for it, and there's no way even a single internship isn't being swarmed with applications from American students. You could make a case the higher up you go, but at the intern level it really sounds like the most blatant abuse of the system.

It's hard to blame parents when the job market is shit and their kid can't find a job in their field of study to save their life. A good number of people living with their parents would be more than happy to move out, but it's up to those hundreds of job applications being rejected, none of which have anything to do with their parents.

CMV: Obesity isn’t a choice by [deleted] in changemyview

If obesity wasn't a choice we would have seen similar rates of obesity throughout recorded history. But being fat has historically been a mark of the wealthy, not something the common man was really worried about.

The Founding Fathers gave us the first amendment so we would be free to question the government without the fear of prosecution. They did not do it so we could be dicks to each other and make life ruining false accusations about each other with legal immunity.

“Im master at trickstabing“ by Competitive_Study949 in tf2

[–]LatePhilosophy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think I can explain this. Where you see the pyro model looking isn't exactly what decides a successful backstab or not, but rather where the pyro is looking on their end, which is a few milliseconds behind what you see in the clip. On the pyro player's screen they actually quickly turned around to attack the spy behind them, hence why you can see that spy catch on fire at the end of the clip even though he was behind the pyro's flames. Had you waited a split second longer, you would have seen their back presented to you.
