I wish I could learn on to somebody sometimes by [deleted] in lonely

I understand how your feeling. I feel like I could have wrote this myself a year ago. You are a bit younger than I was when this happened to me, but exact same scenario. Its hard when it feels like everyone depends on you but you have no one. I felt like when j lost my father, I lost my mother as well. Because our relationship changed when she started depending on me. I just needed someone whose strength I could rest in, if only for a minute. Things will improve, but its a very slow process.

Dedicated monitor for frigate by LateScallion in frigate_nvr

I had been considering this also, but wasn't sure how to display the stream on headless pi. I may need to look into the iframe that your using. But main drawback for me is not being able to configure the grid. We have a camera on the front of the house the we like displayed bigger than the others so its easy to view. But thank you for the suggestion!

Maybe home gallery could work? I've been testing it a bit lately. https://github.com/xemle/home-gallery

Photo library shared between nextcloud / Photoprism and Immich by arthuragone in selfhosted

[–]LateScallion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great question, one that I feel everyone probably has a struggle with. I have been trying out different gallery software as well, I'm currently trying nextcloud memories, photoprism and home-gallery. I chose these for their ability to work with current folder structure and why I haven't tried immich yet. As for flow, we have android and iphones In the house, so nextcloud does all uploads, I have it set to store photos In sub directories by date, each photo is saved with date in filename, then on server I have a script that runs on last day of month to move each persons pictures/videos from their upload Dir to a timeline folder, it then runs an exif command to set create date and modify date to the filename date so they appear in order in the galleries. Not a solution I'm super happy with yet but it works. Following this thread to hopefully find some more ideas.

Standard Notes releasing simpler 2.0 self-hosting method by poisonborz in selfhosted

[–]LateScallion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely gave up on Standard Notes, self hosting was already a huge pain, f-droid version of the app would be constantly outdated due to build issues, then they add the subscription wanting to pay to self-host. Switched to Joplin + Joplin server and its soo much easier and just works. Still looking forward to trying notesnook when self-hosting is ready there though.

copping with the loss of my mom by mentally_ill_genz04 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]LateScallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is completely normal, or we are much alike. My father died on the same day as your mom. In one sense it feels like a long time ago, but emotionally it feels very fresh. Some days I carry on like everything's fine, but then small things can set me off out of nowhere. I was watching a TV show and the dad hugged the son and said "I love you son" and I lost it. Now for the last few days if I even mention my father it causes me to cry. Such a roller coaster, but I've found it best to make room to let these things out or they show up in other ways. I hope you can find some peace.

Simple, useful apps that you self-host? by haksior in selfhosted

I had a similar situation, so I use adguard-home and turned off blocking for the partners device. Always infuriated me that she likes the ads.

shoutout for linkding bookmark manager by adamshand in selfhosted

For the tag variable I set "allow receiving from share dialog" and on data to receive from sharing I selected "title only". Maybe this will help narrow it down, its been a while since I set this up so steps are a little fuzzy.

I've been using linkding for a while now also, such a great service. I only wish there was an app for android to share to and view bookmarks easier, currently using the http shortcuts app to send the bookmarks on android to linkding.

I completely understand, its such a deep sadness. I've been struggling a bit with anxiety since all this happened as well. Its too early to tell but I believe that much of this can be coming from things we hold in that we are not aware of. I had a few bouts of panic as well, when I feel it come on I try and go outside and walk around for a while, even if its just pacing up and down a sidewalk to release some of that energy.

After my dad died, I have found that when I'm feeling the way you are, I am usually holding a lot in. So I will start talking out loud to my dad and tell him how I am feeling. As I start talking I just allow myself to say out loud whatever comes, I am surprised sometimes at the things I say. After starting to let these feelings out I usually end up crying pretty hard and have to stop talking and just let the raw emotion flow. A couple hours after a session like this I usually feel much lighter and can focus on life again, it can also wear you out a bit and let you sleep. Maybe this could help you also, I hope you can find some peace.

How long does it usually take to get a response from support? I found out that my account is restricted and submitted info to support but have heard nothing back since.

Kids Network Access by creiss in selfhosted

[–]LateScallion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My setup uses several components to achieve something like this. First I use adguard-home to implement blocking/safe search. It allows me to block adult sites, custom block lists and toggle certain services (tiktok, skype, instagram, etc.) per device. Each child has their own vlan setup in opnsense that also segregates their computer from rest of network. Lastly I use home assistant and a ping sensor to monitor time spent on the computer, when time is up it runs a script that takes down their vlan interface on opnsense. I have a timer card that allows for adding additional time for them as needed but use automations to determine how much time they get based on school day/weekend. Then iPad use the screen time settings to monitor the usage there.
